i have a ta03f and would like to give it more ground clearance to use it like a rally car instead of the touring car , can i just stick some bigger wheels on it and away i go or does it mean a total upgrade of the shocks arms ect [?]

is this a wise move or would i be better to get another model ...if so what do you recomend [?]

thanks & a jolly Xmas to all [:D]

I wouldn't advise using a TA-03 as a rally car. They have very limited suspension travel and the design of the wishbones/shock mounts makes them vulnerable to bumps. Also, the open belt will tend to draw dirt and stones, which will chew up your drivetrain in no time.

I would say getting another car is the best option. For rally use, I wouldn't really recommend the TA-04 either. For a cheap runaround, the TL-01 is a good choice, or the TB-01 if you want a more competetive model.

If you really want something that will perform well offroad, a buggy might be a better choice, any decent buggy will have better offrad performance than a rally car because of the longer suspension travel, higher ground clearence and bigger wheels.

I wonder if its a case of grat minds think alike or fools never differ!![:D]

I'm currently busy with exactly what you described!!! Tao3D (dually) 2 motors (using 2 tao3f front g/bs) and stadium raider tires. Also looking at pajero mtw rims and tires or aftermarket similar sized ones. We just finished a off-road track next to the formal Worlds on-road track - so bashing here we come!!!!!

Hope to have pics soon

Axles should not be wobbly, *each* axle on the TA03 should be supported by Two bearings/bushings in each hub carrier - a 1510 inside and a 1260 outside. Unless they're seriously worn, the TA03 stepped axle is very well supported.

Occasionally a newbie might forget/overlook to install the outside bearing (silly Tamiya listed this step in the instructions only when you bolt the wheels on).

Happens quite often too... first thing I'd check with any car I didn't build is the little bag of 'extras' leftover. Tamiya just about never gives extra bushings/bearings like they do with screws. Closest I've seen is 25 bushings in a TL01 kit, so there's 1 leftover.

The joys of Tamiya techsupport! [;)]

Jakes:- Pajero MTW wheels are same as touring car std rims, nil offset; the bigger tyres are unique. In use they are identical in dimensions to a buggy 2.2" front wheel & buggy low profile tyre (eg Egress or later Kyosho Lazers).

With this combo I suspect you might have clearance problems, the tyre will drag on TA03's shock, suspension, antiroll bars and probably the left wheel will catch the motor too.

I specifically said "Stadium Raider" because this is the only model I know with severely-offset unique wheels. There's virtually nothing inboard of the hex!! [:D] You should have no clearance problems plus it'll also widen your footprint.

Oh... and the rear antiroll mount is a great place for a 2nd servo... 4-wheel steering anyone? [:P]
