BalmyBaldwin 0 Posted September 29, 2004 I've got an ageing Clio RSI, which I am about to sell. The boot panel is a slightly darker shade of red from the rest of the car... I've tried a coloured Tcut but it hasn't made a lot of difference. Anyone got any ideas of how to get the boot to match the rest of the car (I know it can be done, because the guy who sold it to me made it look the right colour when I bought it.) wriggleandgiggle 0 Posted September 29, 2004 Standard T-cut should do the trick, plenty of elbow grease too, failing that, you know the stuff in the blue container called MER sold at markets and car boot (trunk) sales, it's actually pretty good and can be used for so much more than protecting red mini bonnets from fire . There is also some stuff made by auto-glym, costly but good. Red is one of the worst colours (not color's []) for fading in sunlight, something to do with the pigment used in paints. So it's probably that the rest of the car has faded not the tailgate thats got darker.
dhes2809 0 Posted September 29, 2004 There is also a product called G3 which is used by paint sprayers to flatten the paint after a car has been respayed. It is quite abrasive, but it will bring the colour back. All thats happened is that the top coat of paint on your clio has oxodised and the boot lid has probably be replaced or painted at some point and hasnt oxodised as much. You need to remove that top skin of oxodised paint and get back down to new paint, this stuff will do it but be carefull as if you rub it for to long especially on corners you will go through the paint and into the primer but you would have to rub it for a long time to go through but its possible that someone else may have been doing this before. If the car is metalic you could also have problems as it will have a coat of laquer and is harder to get back to origional colour you will get G3 or something like it from a trade car paint shop. or even halfords sells it i think. I know this works as a mate of mine dad parked his pink escort outside his garage and me and my mate set about it with some G3 an hour later it was deep bright red. terry.sc 16 Posted September 29, 2004 Generally red fade in sunlight, so the rest of the car probably needs T-Cutting rather than the boot. Just use the ordinary stuff, the coloured ones are made for finishing and hiding tiny scratches rather than actually cutting the paint.

DJTheo 2 Posted September 30, 2004 My first car was a red Renault 19 in Greece (ALOF of sun [8D]) and despite my extensive care (many times a year polishing and waxing) the red degraded significantly on horizontal surfaces, especially on the hood due to the high temps there. The problem is also when I had a door painted, it soon was looking different to the rest as the after market colour wasn't aging as fast as the original one, probably the same also in your case. You can only polish the degraded rest, if it still looks different forget about it [V]. I swore to myself never to buy a red car again. Only few makes like VW, Audi use special or clear coat on red like as if it was metallic, also it costs more in these cases then non metallic paints. Cheers P.S.: Very nice car the RSi, torquey and very well handling, fun to drive! [8D]
wriggleandgiggle 0 Posted September 30, 2004 A friend of mine had one (an RSi) and her boyfriend needing taking to collect his car, on the way back we had a race and I kept up with him through the corners and did a reasonable job of keeping up on the straights. His car?? BMW 540i, yes the V8 one..
DJTheo 2 Posted October 1, 2004 On narrow curves its probably faster then the 540i, but on straights no chance, big difference between 286HP and 113?, so guess the Beemer pal didn't press the gas to floor enough... Cheers
wriggleandgiggle 0 Posted October 1, 2004 To be fair to the Beemer man the road was pretty twisty and the straights were not long at all, but there is the power to weight ratio to consider too, getting a big fat BMW upto speed is going to take a fair amount of power. We only got up to about 70 on the straights, I'm saying for a minute that the RSi was quicker, just that the beemer mans face was a picture when we got back to his, I'm pretty good at driving hard on roads I know well too.
