I just wondered if I am the only one who has been eagerly awaiting Gran Turismo 4 since...well forever now. I have had it on back order for over 18 months!!

They keep putting it's release date back. The last I knew it was the 1st December (sensibly in time for Xmas), but learn today that it has now been put off until 1st February!!!

So Sony...does the game even exist? lol

It's funny how they have had the time to produce 2 sub standard games (concept and prologue) but not to perfect the proper one......

I will be bitterly dissapointed if it is anything less than absolute perfection, although the classic cars in the screenshots do bode well:)

I for one am fed up of endless versions of Imprezzas/Skylines etc that have been modified by obscure Japanese tuning firms.....I mean who are Spoon anyway? Perhaps other types of cutlery will be putting their names to cars in the new game. The Mitsubishi EvoxxxIIIIIvvvvvvv tuned by butter knife.

Lets have at least a few token interesting cars like in GT2, Cobra coupe, Charger, Mustang etc

well I have an NTSC PS2, but I do live in North America,

But I also have a PAL DVD Region X disc brand new, if anyone wants it.

That should run NTSC disks ( dvd + games) on your PAL PS2's

Who are Spoon? Spoon are a well-known and respected racing team who also make tuning parts for Honda cars.

http://www.spoon.jp/

Not exactly obscure, and certainly better at what they do than most of the Max Power reading halfwits who 'tune' (read: stick ridiculous body kits on) cars in the UK. [:)] Could you imagine a UK version of Gran Turismo? You'd get to race 1 litre Saxos around a Macdonalds car park and buy tuning parts from Halfords....

There will be a lot more cars in the game, waaaay more than in GT3, I know this for a fact because Evo did an article where they took their Caterham R400 to be photographed and recorded for the game - so I think you will be in luck. Although the cars you mentioned are more suited to drag races, American motor manufacturers have never really got the hang of going round corners (catamongstthepigeons) [:D]. I guess the reason it's taking so long to make could be because they want to do a good job.

It is isnt it?

Dont go down on the boy racers to much though. Most of these kids carnt afford to go to 'spoon' so they go to halfords. after all we were all once a boy racer infact most of us still are. Nower days they put 22" rims on there cars where as most of us on here jacked the leaf springs up on the back of our Mk2 Escorts.

Now we can insure a fast car rather than buy a slow car and make it look fast.

Anyway although some of these Max Power cars arnt to everyones taste what they lack in power they make up for in work done in the body shop. the work that must go into some of the kits and paint jobs these lads have are brilliant.

Gran tourismo is no better anyway you start off with a cheap car and try and get as much out of it as you can till you can afford something better.

As for GT4 I wont beleave anything I read till I see it on the shelf in the shops. Its stupid that it should take so long after they have said it would be ready. There must have been something went badly wrong for them to go over a year over time.

halfords is a automotove store that sells anything from haynes manuals, rattle tins, car radios and also sell mountain bikes.

its one of those stores that are always closed when you want something, and when you buy something from there you usually end up taking it back - several times [B)]

It's also a seller of some RC monster trucks, such as HPI Savages, and the salespeople went to the 'drop it from a height, and show them the suspension, that'll be enough to sell it' college of selling.

Which is right next to the Uni of 'dunno what I'm talking about sir'

We had some people ring the LHS I work in asking for HPI spares as Halfords couldn't help. While we don't stock HPI, I got talking to someone who bought a couple for her 13 year old sons. She said that the staff had no clue and at one point most of the staff of one store were huddled round a Savage, manager included. In the end she was told to come back one day the next week when someone apparently in the know would be there. It struck me as strupid that they sold cars with no back up and even more stupid that they'd sell Nitro to a first time RC user!

PS. Check http://www.gtplanet.net for the latest news. The forum is particularly good and has plenty of info.

Yup, definitely reminds me of an import garage some 45 minutes away from our location... Guy came in for O2 sensor replacement, tech took in the car, cut off all 4 wires to the O2 sensor when there's a plug down the line... crimped all the wires back together wrong, making an O2 sensor that won't cycle...and they insist the engine's a goner. Guy didn't pass emission test on a perfectly healthy engine. So we got to figure out the polarities of all 4 wires, and solder everything the right way, minus connector because the last shop junked it.

Then there's more complain bout that modding garage as well where they just can't refrain themselves from bugging the dealership for every single car they touch. They did earn several top place thropies at the local import nights (translation: all bling bling and no go, rice boy attractions), but certainly overwhelmed with tasks as simple as changing spark plugs or taking compression readings.

*another rant...the 18 month pre-order saga continues....*

Now it's getting near the release date, it has been put back again to 3rd March. I wonder if they enjoy teasing us like this, it was very tempting to press the cancel order button!

I know it's a big game but Rockstar have made 3 GTA's since GT3 was released, all of which must be equally big...so whats the story Polyphony?

Maybe they want to include EVERY colourscheme that has ever graced a racing Skyline (yawns) this time around?

What really gets my goat is that Sony recently sent me a GT4 flyer telling me all about it and how I should go out and buy it.

I'VE BEEN TRYING TO FOR 18 MONTHS!!! [}:)]

*RANT OVER* [:D]

I'm liking that cockpit! I've heard release date is actually the 11th of March I'm afraid although the carlist makes it well worthwhile;

TOTAL CARS: 711

On top of this, there are another 10 cars added to the PAL version including the Alfa GT, Audi Nuvolari concept, HPA Motorsports Golf R32, Auto Union V16 Streamliner, Chapparal 2J and Peugeot 905. I'll be putting the game on order very soon, lol.

wow that is an impressive list! i see that there's loads of nissan skylines and mitsubshi evo's to keep me happy for a few hours. in all of the previous gran turismo games i have always love the driving tests, i have got gold on all tests on gt4 prologue (only took me 3 days).

Posted

Now thats a good list of cars, but Model T Ford? [:0]

I also think that the Triumph spewfire and VW Beetle are a bit of a waste of time, unless they're on there to demonstrate just how badly a car can handle [:P]

I think that an MGB would be much more popular, or indeed a Healey 3000 (which was photographed, but seemingly didn't make it into the game)

I look forward to driving the Volvo 240 estate (the worlds best track day car) and also the Delorean.

Will I go back to the start of the race though if I hit 88mph in it?[8D]

A friend of mine has the Japan NTSC version to play on his Japan spec PS2. Sorry to say guys, but this chap is a veteran of previous GT games and says that GT4 is not all it's craked up to be. His notes from the game... :

Nothing new in the gameplay department worth mentioning. They have added this insipid pointless mode called B-spec where you have the computer(?) drive your car and you manage what it does during the race(!). Its pretty unintelligible and boring. But the worst thing, and completely 100% pointless is this photospec mode...its a racing game FFS...really cross about this and it would have taken them a long time to code this, instead they should have concentrated on making the game better(as i think it has some serious flaws)

Absolute joke but yes you cant play memory card battles....

Better than GT3, but not head and shoulders above it imho.

I hate to say this though. I love the game but am seriously seriously disappointed. These devs, though are obviously gifted and have worked very hard, have really cut corners.

Its the stupid inaccuracies, like driving a "manual" mercedes SL65. Or driving cars which would never ever have traction control and anti spin devices, but these always come as standard!

The AI is no different from the last game, and it was poor in the last one.

The engine sounds are horrifically and laughably poor,

Graphics are worse, the amount of graphical glitches is horrendous. 2 Player mode is almost unplayable as when one person goes off and hits a wall the screen will shake and blur. Fine, but this also happens to the other person, who hasnt gone off...who subsequently will go off, as mid corner the screen becomes blurred!

I was looking forward to this game hugely but am overall underwhelmed-maybe my expectations were too high. It is a good game, just not as good as it should be.

Roll on GT5 and PS3!

Not sounding too promising, apparentely there will be changes to make the PAL version a bit harder which could improve things. As for AI I am surprised it is as bad as GT3 as the AI is prologue was a noticable improvement. While photomode does strike me as a massive waste of time, B Spec it would appear does have a use now there are 24 hour races. As much as I like Gran Turismo, the thought of 24 hours non stop (no mid race saving) is one that leaves me cold. B Spec allows you to win the race to further the percentage completion but speeded up time without having to drive.

24 hour races? Now that is insane!!

I have only done 2 or 3 of the endurance races on GT3, one of them 5 times just to get one of the F1 cars.

The others just look too long and boring for my liking, unless you deliberatly enter in an uncompetitive car like a standard 911.

That at least does represent a challenge [:D]

I am glad to see some classics in the game though, but I too find it annoying that these old cars have traction control as standard (although it can be turned off).

      Hi Jon,
In the linked image, I've simply moved the bar forward until it is centered directly over the rear shock tower (approx. 10.72mm) and kept the same height.  Is this what you had in mind?
