DimmaDan....i'm a mechanic. before i started working idependently from a shop, i worked, for a while, for a shop that carried Giant.

there are two things you want to keep an eye on with the Giants. make sure not to ride the bike if the headset is loose (have a mechanic at the shop show you how to check it...it's easier in person than to type it all out).

and make sure that if there are shifting issues a few weeks after the purchase, that you take it back to the shop where you bought it. many shops offer free tune ups after purchase so make sure to take advantage of that.

myself, i've been riding a Litespeed for the past 9 years.

Well, I'm not into it that much, but I go and ride jumps/trails/downhill with my friends a lot. I have a GT Chucker Rigid. It's one tough bike as it's handled everything I've thrown at it, including a nose dive off a jump from about 4 foot in the air.

I have a bike. It's blue and has got a seat that's like a blade. You get some black handlebars and these are connected to a big wheel at the front via some adjustable bouncy things. Your feet go on these sticks that come out of the sides and you can move them round in a circle to go forward. If you move them backwards it just ticks though. When you move them forward, this metal snake makes the back wheel go around too. There's lots of cogs at either end that I don't understand. My bike has extras though. It's got some levers that you squeeze to make you stop and some buttons you press to make it easier or harder to move the circley stick things. As an extra special bonus it has a small box that tells you loads of stuff like how fast you go, how far you went and when my mum wants me home for tea. My bike is called Specialized. I called it that because that's what's written on it. Did I mention it was blue...?

It's a Specialized Rockhopper Sport. Bought it because it looked simple but tough. So far so good.

I was up until a couple of years ago, have back and knee problem!!! I had a Schwinn Moab 1 met red with blue Manitou sx forks, Y2K model that I started 2 upgrade a week after I bought it.

It was in the sale at my local Halfords/Bikehut store; £900.rrp £715.sale price Jan 2001.

As I bought it; lx shifters, crank, f-mech, f+r hubs with 221 rims, coat hanger spokes! lol, xt r-mech, Schwinn finishing kit, bars, stem, seat post, saddle etc... and spd peddles, changed to Shimano spd/flatty combo, day 1.

Over the next 18mths it was upgraded with xt v's a few weeks after purchase and shifters a short while after that. 2mths later I fitted Easton ea70 riser bars and a pace stem, (very light).4mths later I fitted Hayes disc'c and Hope XC hubs with DT db spokes and an xt cassette. 3mths after that i went onto fit xtr f+r mech's and 5 star 48.36.26 crank.

I did 2 coast 2 coast rides, a Forest of Dean w/e and loads of Leics/Notts training rides. It was great fun!!!!!

Ive just come to inflate my tyres and found a very strange type of valve, it has a nut on it and the more you screw it off then push the valve the more it deflates.

What type of pump do i need for this as my normal ones wont work?

Posted

Ah cool, does that mean they are better inner tubes or non uk ones?

Im looking to get a C02 pump for when on the trails and want one thats compatible, or ill get new inners.

Posted

Presta valves are better than schrader ones as they don't leak as easy so are normally used for hi-pressure tyres!!

If you do decide to change your tubes, before you buy them check the valve will fit through the rim hole as presta valves are slimmer!!

Any good bike shop should be able to get a presta pump for you

My bike's a Muddy Fox, it's old and rusty and probably has a market value of about £25 but I've got it all adjusted nicely and set up right so I like it.

I used to be big into BMX so can't resist doing BMX tricks on it.

Don't have my own bike anymore, though i wish i still had my old school bike.

Was a Fisher i bought of a neighbour. Had it brought over from the states.

Can't remember the exact name of it, just it was very hard to pronounce.

Originally in a mid blue scheme, had u brake (the in thing back then, along with DEORE being the top shimano chainsets and what not) fitted uNDER the frame at on the rear wheel. Had it dipped and stripped and powder coated a deep candy apple red.

dumb thing is, i bolixed the crank, and ended up selling it as parts after about a year of sitting in my garage [:(]

This was 15yrars ago tho.[B)]

I had a trek Bruiser One in mint condition until 2 years ago when some local villains decided they needed it more than I do. I think I spotted one of the suspects riding it around last month, just wait till I am up close and see it!

Before that I had a 2001 Giant Alu mountain Bike, funnily the headset used to come loose on mine! Lovely to ride on loose gravel especially cornering. Best bike I had for sheer fun (and it got abused when I lived in Kendal) was a Saracen Roughtrax. Just a basic bike but it was fun to ride. I went down Gatesgarth pass on it, bouncing the bike off the boulders on the way down. My mate that went with me had a full suspo GT and shot off leaving me to crash my way down the boulders. I miss those days. Not many mountains in Brum, that and my missus doesn't really like cycling.
