Just out of interest, has anyone else read the Da Vinci Code?

I'd heard a lot of hype on it, and just wondered what you thought (wasn't too mpressed meself)

I thought it was a very clever piece of writing. From what I understand there are some historical inaccuracies but never the less, a good read

I have read it. I found it very interesting and impressive. i could't stop reading as it was that good but then again i dont know much about christainity so i wouldn't know if there were any inaccuracies.

I think I may have missed something then - All I got from it was a treasure hunt with obscure/dual directional clues that were always misinterpreted on the first attempt at solving.

It kinda reminded me of Columbo [xx(]

I couldn't put the darn thing down, despite getting cross at the plot twists(I thought more 'Morse' than 'Columbo' Andy) and occasional patronising tone (the Bois de Boulogne being Paris's version of Central Park? I ask you... [:0]). There's no denying it's a great page-turner, but the whole Grail/Templar's etc. thing has been done so many times before.

Definitely addictive, I read the whole thing in 2 1/2 days, I was just thinking there'd be more, but there wasn't, and the end was a bit ''urm, ok''

I found it intriguing. I had heard of all the controversy surrounding the book so I wanted to see what it was all about. It makes some interesting assertions for scholars on both sides to argue over. I too thought the ending just left you hanging with no resolution.

the film with Tom Hanks is out next year I think - it will all then be spelt out in easy to understand Hollywood speak.

I read a book caled the Bible Fraud a few years back that covers much the same ground, but its presented in a more factual way. Its a bit dry in places and not as exciting but interesting all the same if you like that sort of thing.

Religion is one of my specialist pet hate hobbies - after smoking ;-) unfortunately i don't think even our "outside world forum" is the place to tackle it, those addicted are even harder to have reasonable arguments with than smokers (although they share a lot of the same traits)

I'm not getting into the ciggie debate, I'm still undecided on that one.

Most of the (what is the) grail stuff in the book was pretty cool, as was some of the Da Vinci artwork revelations, just the plot of the thing disappointed me a bit.

I'm not sure about Tom Hanks either, didn't strike me as it being him - Michael Keaton sprang to mind more

it's a neat adventure story, just has the added bonus of a controversial ( slightly fictional ) setting.

I actually prefered Angels and Demons, + his other 2 books are great reads as well.

Not quite Rankin standard, but pretty good

Dan Brown also wrote Angels and Demons which is also very good reading. I guess religious folks would not like either of the 2 books since the church is not presented in a nice way even though the 2 novels are fiction.

There was a docu of the Da Vinci code some time ago on the German TV.

They managed to destroy every fact he writes in his book. So it is only fiction.

But does anyone read about the Maya and their Long Count Calendar???

Thats much more interesting and truth!!! This is really terrific.

They knew about all 9 Planets!!! although uranus and Pluto were found last Century.

And their LCC ends in 2011!!!

Actually the end of the 5th age (our current one) is the 21st Dec 2012.

The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail is *the* book to read. Basically blows the bible to bits. It gives the history of The Craft, Mary, POS and the Knights Templar. Also tells how Friday the 13th came about and the Turin Shroud.

It should be read though as a novel and make your own mind up. But its very persuasive in its arguements.

I was nearly suspended from school for reading it. I went to a COE school with prayers every morning etc.

Oi, Claire, I went to a C of E school as well but it wasn't that strict. They had enough trouble stopping us burning the desks let alone worrying about what books we read. (I hasten to add, this was in Merseyside!) Must have been tougher for girls??!!**

We had knicker checks to make sure we were wearing regulation blue ones from Rawcliffes..!

This was in Blackpool.

On a side note, every desk I sat in (we picked our own) was previously inhabited by Paula Yates. Perhaps this means I go and marry a rock star, call my children silly names and go out in a blaze of drugs..

I enjoyed reading the book - a good holiday book and certainly a page turner imho, but not really to be taken too seriously as others have pointed out its a bit flawed factually [:)].

Haven't read any of his other books, but on the strength of the writing in the Da Vinci code I would certainly be tempted to read another.

There was a documentary on TV not long ago in the uK where they basically pulled the book apart from a factual perspective. STill doesn't take away from the fact that its a good bit of fiction in that it kept me turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next.
