hi just wondered if anyone was into model railway 00 gauge i,m into model railway and just collecting some locos at the moment i,m trying to track down a duchess loco called the city of stoke or the duchess of stoke thanks

I used to be into it quite a lot, before I found the world of R/C.

I had all of the Hornby Track Mat set up, with raised track at one end, some extra track that wasn't on the track mat, and other buildings/accesories.

Train wise, I had the whole Flying Scotsman Set- Including 3 Carriages, a GWR Great Western Railways and a yellow American style locomotive with a French Place name on the side, the name evades me at the moment.

I then sold all of the track and the trains. I received about £60 for all the track, and I did a deal with my LHS for a TT-01 NSX with paint and a hop up or two for the Trains and Carriages. Since I've been typing this I've started to wish I hadn't sold it all [:(]

One thing I always wanted however was a Garden Railway. I read in a magazine that you could use standard 00 gauge track. So I designed the layout and started to mark out the track, and we even had the power sockets in the greenhouse. I never got any further, and soon after I discovered Tamiya.

That's no problem, good to listen to yours aswell.

When I lived in my old house, I had a neighbour that was into 00 gauge big time. He knew that I was starting off collecting trains, so he invited me in. One of his rooms, he a a track suspended on a board running all the way round the edge of the room. "The Conductor" would then stand up in the middle, with hardly any room to move around. Seeing this was what got me really started.

Luckily for me, he had bagfulls of spare track he gave me free of charge! Some of it was rusty, but I just used a special track cleaning block and it was almost new looking! This tracked helped me with about a 3rd of the Track Mat Layout.

I can always remember waiting to get the next track pack. I would save up all my money for a while (must have been about 9/10 at the time) then once I had enough, I'd pester my dad into taking me on a 20 minute drive to the LHS just to get the next track pack. Once at the LHS, I'd always stand there, admiring the beautiful, shiny trains in the display cabinet. Any money that I had left over I'd buy one or two trees, maybe some gravel to stick to the board, and if I had quite a bit of money left over, I'd buy either a carriage or a building that I'd have to build. I can remember building a house with my dad, and then dropping it and breaking it [:D]

One thing I always wanted was the station terminal- the big glass building that about 3/4 lanes of track could go into. I was saving up for this, before I found Tamiya, therefore before I sold it all.

I was into model railways since 3 years old so much before I started with Tamiyas, with Maerklin HO, had even build a 2.50x1.30m terrain with lakes, houses, roads etc when I was a teenager, somehow I got away from it though, but have all the stuff stored safely away as you never know [;)]

But nowadays wouldn't be really motivated to start it again as close to my place is the biggest HO railway in the world, with even working cars! and new cities and countries added every year, simply stunning and depressing if you have one yourself LOL http://www.miniatur-wunderland.com/

Cheers

ow, you guys are all into the big trains,

Had for a long time a N scale "thing"  , but after having to clean up the layout when going into

the army i never really got back into it. "then the rc thing hit me"

Sold quite some trains since then, but have a small collection left over to be able to start over

again. But, i guess i never will.

Secretly i think it would be great fun to have a big-scale railway in the back garden, a well

"when i get old"  :)

hi stefan

my father has got a n gauge train set layout in his loft its very big and the amount of buildings and cars etc it looks reality its even got working street lamps traffic lights and he made some level crossing lights on it he told me if he wanted to sell it he would let it go for over 800 pounds it is very big small locos about two big boxes full of locos etc i still prefer 00 gauge though

hi all

i used to be seriously into model railways. my layout took up most of my bedroom. now i need the space, so it all came down. i still have everything, and i've promised to myself that i will rebuild it some day. tamiya and RC sort of replaced that, and doesn't need a huge room

800, not a bad price for a load of N scale, as the scale has the strange

habbit of inflating the price [:(]

For me, i keep what i have now and maybe... when i grow up.. i'll start again.

Or lay a big behind track LGB track in the back garden [:)]

So many plans... so many wishes!

A well, if you don't have them anymore life must be boring

As a child, I had Märklin H0 trains on the old metal tracks. They had been sold a decade ago, though.

Today, I got my hands on a Fleischmann H0 starter package with digital controls. :)

My Dad loves trains and has a few OO locos. I've been wanting to design and build him a layout for years but he says he doesn't have any space. It'll never happen now and I don't want one myself, I just fancy designing it.

The resurrection of this thread is a sad reminder that the HO layout I once worked on may never experience something similar... It came down to either model railway building or RC cars, and I stuck with what I knew.

To be fair, though, it would have been easier to find outdoor space to run cars than to find indoor space for trains where I live.

I just equipped the Diesel locomotive with a driver figure!

SAM_4839_zpsginkg3jb.jpg

I had to repaint the driver partially, since the factory paintjob wasn't that great. I cut off the bar at the bottom and applied a tiny bit of CA glue.

Looks like he's not tall enough.

Woodpick to the resuce!

SAM_4844_zpsirm4vb0b.jpg

SAM_4846_zpsx0djh8ht.jpg

Now he's able to look out of the windows.

By the way, it seems like locos from Fleischmann starter packages are less detailed than when bought seperately. You can see this by the unpainted wipers and window gaskets. Too bad! Another thing to consider is that this loco is only driven at one of the bogies. Well, a fully detailed Fleischmann locomotive with both bogies driven, sound and DC digital control would cost 234 €  for a BR 215.  While the starter package I got costs 259 €, which includes one digital BR 218 loco, three wagons, a basic track layout with one switch, a z21 digital station and one multiMaus hand controller.

So even still considering the loco from the starter package is less detailed overall, I think that I got the better end of the deal. Maybe I'll try painting the gaskets and wipers by myself someday, as well as giving the drivers face better eyes.

Have a Tokyo Marui Pro Z railway diorama with all the plates plus some about 3 metres in length

And built the wife a coffee table out of the old shed Pro Z gauge setup.as her Dad was a train driver back in the day and she has always had a thing for them, its a good conversation piece when people come to visit.

Nice! It's just so amazing to see what gauges like Z allow for fitting impressive layouts even into small spaces.

I bought a Roco VT 98 railbus with trailer in DB AG Ulmer Spatz (Ulm sparrow) livery for my better half. Since it was made for analog control, I equipped it with a ESU Lokpilot 4 DCC decoder. It was a simple deal of plugging in, since the chassis was prepared for upgrading to digital control with an 8-pin NEM 652 interface.

The decoder makes the railbus run very smooth even at low speeds and gives it a prototypical inertia when accelerating and braking.

Last week, I decided to replace the Fleischmann H0 Profi-track with Trix H0 C-track. I bought a bunch of new track parts, switches and buffer stops. I also got my hands on a second multiMAUS controller, so two people can control their assigned trains simulatenously.

This is the new layout. You can also see I'm beginning to assemble a train station from a PIKO plastic model kit, there are some more building to be done.

The BR 218 poses, too. There's no transfer site for its goods yet, so you bet the business isn't doing well at the moment. :D Hopefully things will change for the better in the future.

I have a load of OO from many years ago which has not seen daylight for at least 30 years.

Currently planning an N scale layout as not really enough space for anything decent in OO.

Also have 3 1/2" gauge live steam Rocket made by Hornby back in the 80's which I have plans to set up in the garden at some point.

I have gotten my hands on some more buffer stops, a crossing, decoupling tracks and switch points to assemble this layout:

The planning is done using the free program SCARM: http://www.scarm.info/index.php?l=en

I've also ordered an automatic unloading platform for the Fleischmann self-unloading cargo wagons:

The mechanism works by pushing the levers on the wagons outwards when they pass the platform.
