Anybody know what the little hole on the front of the hood of a wild willy 1 is for?  There is a slight cut out in the grill to accomodate something but I don't know what it is.

I have also wondered this on both of mine, i did think it was for the tow hook at one point but there is a rectangle whole in the grill??

It's almost like an emblem is supposed to go there.  I was thinking a gunsight  cross hairs would look cool

Interesting as I had just been thinking the same thing as I am in the last stages of a WW1 restoration (see showroom).

I am with Mr W.Chang on this one. It is in exactly the right place to use a screw to fit the screen to the hood - except the hinge doesn't really fold forward that well. But that is what I concluded it was for.

But hey a hood gun sight would be awesome. I feel another great aftermarket part coming from Shodog.

Hot Dang willy, I think your on to something here.  Does it show it in the instrctions for using it thst way?

I'm quite positive it was shown in the manual that you could either have the windshield up or down. Bodies from later production runs don't have the hole though I think.

I don't doubt willy, it's just that Tamiya doesn't show it in the manual.  I looked at the pictures several times.  In step 29 they could have easily shown that it the windscreen could screw down to the hood becuase on the sidebar they show how it attaches to the roll bar.

Do I look like the type who bothers to read instructions?!  ...nevah! [:)]

Think that was one thing I actually tried doing few yrs ago (damned WW was the car that got me into this crazy T collecting/restoring game when I found my first on 9/9/99, yeah memorable date!).

Screen folds down ok but is a little bit 'springy', due to angle of the M2 screws used as the hinge pivot. Could bend those M2s a little bit to make it sit better I guess.

Gap in grille fits the little bronze nut.

One would assume a M2 bolt would hold the screen down... however a M2 doesn't easily fit into the little hole in my bonnet, more like a friction/self-tap fit even on an unpainted shell. The hole's got a wierd tapered profile too (no idea why they did it like that).

Trouble is with folding the screen down... there's still the front rollbar which looks ugly standing proud by itself. [:(] I'd want to unbolt it.

Have wanted to retrofit the folding hinge onto WW2 runner, just haven't gotten around to it. [:$] One day!

Like WillyChangtheman says, the hole is probably to fasten the windshield if flipped down. There's a few problems with it though, one of them like ToyKid said, is that the windshield frame doesn't fold down all the way due to the angle of the screws that go from the hinges into the body - this is an easy fix really, but I don't see the point in doin' anything with it.

If the windshield is folded down, the front body mount (the clip actually) will interfere with the window also.

I corked the hole in my so to be done Yellow Willy, with a screw, dunno why, just did it while building the body, and left it in as I kinda liked the detail better than the whole.

WillyChangtheman I also did the retro windshield on my Willy-TLT crawler - it looks so much better than the WW2 look!

nice!!

That's what I wanna build when I get around to it "one day". [:D]

Already got the TLT1 kit, got some similar wheels, might go for some some CRP-copied Bruiser-style rubber tyres... just a bit hesitant about raiding a new kit for the WW2 body.

Meant to bolt together the TLT1 over xmas 2005 but got distracted by a M18T Xray instead.

WillyChangtheman, no need to raid a NIB kit to get a new WW2 body, but you probably know - there're a dime a dusin and easy to get hold of cheap.

Got those parts on order with distributors... for the last 5 yrs! (uhoh, 6 now) Put that order in when the kit first came out, nothing arrived yet.

One would think if they have it on their list they'd stock it, yea? [:P]

haha, no rush.

Anyone know how to turn a chrome WW2 into gold coloured?

Painting clear yellow on top is the 'easy' choice, wondering about gold plating.

I wanna Gold Willy!! [;)]

willy chang,

i was think of turning a set of chrome king blackfoot wheels into gold. when i was younger my parents owned a trophy/awards business. we used to change the chrome plastic figures for the tops of the trophies to gold with a special gold dip that was intended just for that purpose. the part has to be chromed first (and plastic) as is the case for the ww2 body and kbf hop-up wheels.

my parents have since sold the business and i haven't had the access to this dip. if you can wait a little while i will take my rims to a local trophy shop this week and see what they can do. if it is a go, i will have it done then post pics. i figure risking a $15.00 set of rims is better than the hard to get ww2 metallic body you have!

i'll let you know how they turn out![:)]

WillyChangtheman - first of all, a regular Wild Willy is GOLD! No need to go Goldfinger on it dude! [;)]

And yeah, what is five years really?

I got me a full WW body set from Stella for a good price, they were kind enough to take apart a kit for me - I had it like five days later...
