The guys at my RC club swear by LRP Pulsar. It seems to have everything you would ever need. It even has a program to run in your motor [8D]

Another charger thing, I saw a charger at Maplins that charges ordinary batteries a few times. Is it worth having or are Nicads/NiMh

still more economic?

I personally use an Apex Sigma charger/discharger. It charges and discharges both nicads and nimh, between 4 and 9 cell packs, even AAs. It will even run a charge/discharge cycle. Its available from Cleveland Models (Tel 01642 241511) for £110 including mains power supply.

If you not going to race - a very solid charger is the MRC Brain.

It's only about $50 and I think the new Super Brain for $60 or so will also charge Lithium ION's.

Both have a ton of features and with the weak dollar - it's an even greater bargain.

If you're going to race you may need to spend $100-$150 for something more competitive.

Just my 2 cents.

The LRP is a fantastic charger, but a bit costly. It will do a good job on your cells though, and has a good discharge rate.

I've heard good words about the Space Charger (£99), not seen one though.

I use a Pro Peak Supanova - about 80 quid and it has a lot of functionality, charges batteries nicely and gives a good diagnostic readout so you can tell how well your cells are doing. It does involve quite a few button presses if you have lots of different types of cell, and it also has a tendency to false peak early on Sanyo cells when they are cold, but if it does that I just press the start button and it carries on to take them to full charge.

Prior to that I just used a cheap Pro-peak (ripmax) peak charger and an LRP discharger, and that kept my nimh and nicds in good condition.

A good charger is worth the money, saves time and keeps batteries tip-top.

Don't forget that you will need a mains power supply for most high-end chargers, that can add £40 or so to the cost.
