Hi,

I have just managed to seal the deal on a modified SRB gearbox that can accept modified motors, and of course, I would like to get a Technigold motor for it, seeing as how it's my favourite motor of all time.

I (like most people on here I suspect) would like to get a NIB Technigold motor for it but of course they can be rather "expensive".

Most of the used Technigold motors that I see on Ebay would be perfectly acceptable to me, except for the fact that the Technigold label on the motor is usually very worn.

Hence I had a thought - maybe Chris or someone else here could produce a nice Technigold reproduction decal and I could just get a used Technigold motor and clean it up and put a fresh new Technigold decal onto it, and it would then look almost identical to a brand new Technigold motor.

If there were say 10 Technigold decals on a sheet, for a "nominal" charge, then we could renew them whenever they get manky / damaged, for years to come.

What do you think everyone?

Cheers,

Alistair G.

That could be a winner for some other guys, who have the Graupner RX540VZ, which is also the socalled Technigold but sold under an other label.

Tamyia is not the only company who has sold Mabuchi motors!!!!!!

that would be an expensive label to make considering the backing.  And with any label, quanity brings down the price.

Good point there twinset , but I think it will make him feel better , come on we have all been there

Oh definitely, just trying to save him from 'invisible bling syndrome'

I've had it for years [8-|]

I could look into doing repos if there is enough interest. One area of concern would be, if people are going to have runners with repos stickers, what will the heat do? I dunno????

>I thought the sticker was foil backed ?? I did not see Chris make those .

I think that some printing shops must have foil backed gold coloured paper that they could print on, surely? It doesn't even have to be adhesive if it came to it, since we could glue it on anyway.

>that would be an expensive label to make considering the backing.

Wonder how much extra it costs for gold foil paper? Surely not too expensive since all those silly stickers and things that kids buy for pennies have this sort of thing on them? Can't be all that expensive to produce? Maybe?

>wouldn't you have to keep taking the motor out of the gearbox to see the decal?

Ahh, Yeah I kind of forgot about that until tonight when "Boogyloop" also pointed that one out to me...

...I still wanted to be able to have a nice Technigold sticker on it, (who wants one with a nasty worn one on it? LOL) like this one on the original motor here ;-

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/xforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=25840

...see my scan of the Technigold motor down the page...

>Make sure to run that Scorcher on 8.4v to get the max out of that lovelly motor.

Good point, I forgot about that. NOW I KNOW why the efficiency figure of the Technigold was so much better than the other motors... because the figures must have been given for the operation at 8.4V, not 7.2V where the efficiency would be similar to the other motors i.e. quite a bit lower, since efficiency is higher with a higher voltage (unless the armature starts to get hotter due to larger current draw).

Since I have an opened Tamiya Hump pack, with no cells in it, I may consider putting those 4/5 Sub-C cells into it like Theo suggested and then I could have good capacity (2000+ mAh) and be able to give the Technigold 8.4V, and because of the higher efficiency of the motor at 8.4V, run times will not be much lower than with Sub-C 3000's etc...

Those had usually a more pale can, like TTuned and TPower and also no pigtails.

Alistair, by trying to fit a TG in a SRB gearbox even if it would fit (I doubt it would on most) it would probably be such a tight fit that it would scratch the decal LOL

Also motors don't necessarily have higher efficiency at high voltages, but usually around the nominal voltage they were designed for, at higher its reduced due to higher arcing, at lower due to slow movement from one commutator segement to other. The TG really has a good efficiency (not just because of 8,4V) due to its good torque, like good modern stock motors around 19-23T which is the best compromise.

Hi Theo,

Not trying to argue, but i thought he meant that the TG was more efficient on 8.4v than a Mabuchi 540S on 7.2v?

* Confused *

Someone Explain?

Ah, i thought he mean that comparatively the TG on 8.4volts was more efficient than the Mabuchi on 7.4volts: Eg..

7.2V and a Mabuchi = 10 efficiencies

8.4V and a TechniGold = 12 efficiencies

I Know this unit is made up, but it seemed an easier way of explaining what i mean!

Yeah I know but I've just got to try it. I mean, SS + Technigold, what a combination LOL. Tamiya heaven LOL.

Yes, that is exactly what I meant. That's what I *thought* that I had found when I looked at the entry for the efficiency of the Technigold at ;-

http://home19.inet.tele.dk/martinjordt/res...tors/motors.htm

...but it says there that the efficiency is 81 per cent (!!!!!) at 7.2 V (!!!!!!!!!!). Surely this has got to be wrong!! Surely only a 5-or more-pole motor could possibly achieve that figure. That's what makes me think that something is wrong, and that's why I thought it must have been 81 per cent when meaured at 8.4 V, and for example, more like 71 per cent when measured at 7.2 V.

I mean, if it *is* true and the Technigold's efficiency really is 81 per cent at 7.2 V, then this is one badword of a good figure, and Technigold really is "The God of Propulsion" as 'Wireless' put it !!

I thought that only 5-pole motors or brushless motors could get above 80 per cent efficiency? LOL

Hi Lads,

Yeah, i thought that was what you meant mate!

Yeah, over 80% is not likely at all! The Brushless motors are relatively around that figure now-a-days, and when was the TG made?

On a side note:

Al i truely think you have gone insane, you want a repro-sticker that you can't see! And more to the fact, one that will get scratched to death!

Actually with some careful positioning, the sticker would be undamaged since there is a section in the SRB gearbox that allows this, i.e. the metal does not go all the way around the circumference of the body of the motor. As long as I can get a very used Technigold motor and clean it up nicely and then put my own Technigold decal on it in the right place, it should be O.K.. I hope.

Yes I know I won't be able to see the sticker but I don't care, I still want one for any very used Technigold motor that I ever manage to get my hands on, and of course in some chassis' that I might install one in, I would be able to see the decal.

Cheers,

Alistair G.
