This spring i´m planning to get either a Mammoth or a Juggernaut2.

So i was wondering about them both.

Miramar wrote a good review about the Mammoth. But i still wonder a few things.

Just how slow is it. Doesent need to be fast ofcource, but a closer explanation of its speed would be nice.

How good (or bad perhaps) "off road" is it. Cant it climb anything, and dies the tires give real bad grip on packed dirt for example. Would be nice to be able to go up some minor "hills".

And the Jugg2

Couldnt find any review about it, and not many threads about it´s perfromance.

So how does it performe, perhaps compared to the Super Clod (which i might get instead of a Jugg2)

The Mammoth actually look cool. And the sheer size makes it a wanna have.

The Jugg2 is awesome in size to ofcource.

But perhaps the super clod does it just as good, and cheaper.

What do you guys think?

Hi,

Got a TXT (for sale), had a clod, now got 2 Gecko Clod conversions.

In stock form the Clod is a pretty poor vehicle for much really.  The TXT (and I assume the Jugg) has much better suspension and general chassis set-up.  Better for getting over and around obstacles.

Stock clod can however be hopped up with aftermarket chassis into a mean machine!

Just my two penny worth...

I can't speak for the Mammoth but I do have a Jugg 2.  It is a great looking machine - very realistic.  It is out of production and finding a nib one is usually over 500 US.  Performance out of the box ?  Very slow, poor suspension (stiff & bouncy).  Would cost some big bucks to have it perform.  Mine is a shelf queen.  I would recommend a TXT-1 just drop some mod motors in it and it will be great out of the box !  Check my showroom for ideas:

Hope this helps.

I would have to agree. The Jugg looks great but a txt is the business when it comes to modding and having a fun with.  Check out my showroom for an idea on just a few of the items you can get for a 'standard' setup txt. As btmr said the Jugg will set you back a fair amount of coin but the txt shouldnt be too bad! [:D

Jugg looks great but is a pain to drive...tips over easily (specially with faster motors/higher speed)

Also the suspensions isn't great.

Clod suspension is even worse, but easier to modify. (very much aftermarket stuff for sale to do so)

Modding a Jugg possible but more difficult then modding a Clod since there is the center gear box with driveshafts to the axles.

TXT is a great truck to drive out of the box...even better with fast motors.

Jugg/TXT have the nasty habbit of lifting the (right?) frontwheel when accellerating due to the forces of the drivetrain. Clod does not have this problem......

Whatever you choose, they are all good fun.

i've not got a juggernaut2, but i do have a txt-1, clod buster and a mammoth dump truck - so heres my input [:)]

looks -

txt-1 - the txt-1 is in my opinion an awsome looking machine, the chassis sides are amazing and the overall size is very impressive - its bigger than a clod buster and a juggernaut (wider, longer wheelbase)

clod buster - the clod is also a very impressive looking truck, the chevey body is what really makes it stand out. the chassis is absolutly full of plasic and isnt that great to look at with the shell off, but the overall look is still of a powerfull car crushing monster [H]

mammoth dump truck - the mammoth is 1/20 scale, but is roughly the same size as a clodbuster. the chassis itself isnt as wide as a clod as its got those narrow wheels, but the dump bed is huge, you can easily fit another car in the back of it [:P] if you like huge dumper trucks, then it looks amazing. of corse some would say the mammoth looks a bit ugly [:P]

performance -

txt-1 - the txt-1 is simply the best performing tamiya solid axel truck. the suspension travel is huge, with over 9 inches of articulation - compared to the clod which can achieve about 3 inches. the suspension is also pretty soft so it absorbs impacts with ease. its got the advantage of being either 2 or 4 wheel steering, 2 wheel steering is fine as long as you've got a hi torque servo. it's not really that fast with the stock motors, slightly slower than a clod buster, but its got absolutly tonns of pulling power! the centre gearbox and prop shaft design makes it a very good crawler [H] the txt-1 does lift its front left wheel under acceleration, this is known as "torsion moment" - but i think its a cool little trick [:P]

clod buster - the clod is faster than a txt-1, but doesnt handle as well and is no where near as good off road. it can climb, but its suspension limitations makes it get stuck easy on obstacles higher that its wheels.

mammoth dump truck - based on the juggernaut 2 chassis, its got the same 4 wheel drive system (almost the same as the txt-1s) but uses a reduction unit bolted to the front of the centre gearbox, with a single motor providing the power. the reduction unit makes it a SLOW truck. it can go at about "jogging" pace at full speed. the speed is controlled by a mechanical electronic speed control, providing a full range of speeds. the tyres dont give much grip off road, and the suspension is very hard and doesnt move much. it can climb up slopes, just not over rocks and things. the reduction unit is designed for torque, the truck pulls and pushes almost anything [:P] its got 2 wheel steering which is ok, but a hi torque servo would improve its steering ability, especially when the truck is loaded with its maximum 4kg cargo. to be honest the truck can take alot more in the dump bed, but its not recommended [;)] the bed itself is controlled by a plus 1 channel unit, supplied with the kit and powered by a 280? size motor. the tipping mechanism is powerfull, easily tipping out its load.

i've got my mammoth fitted with both lighting kits - break and headlights, the wiring inside the truck is crazy [:P]

in all, txt-1 is the best performer, the juggernaut and clod buster make amazing cruisers or shelfers in stock form and the dump truck is an unusual but very fun machine [:D]

Thanks you all for the excellent info about the trucks.

I´ve had a look in your showrooms, and it´s inspiring!!!

mymonsterbeetleisbroken, awesome info, as allways about the trucks. Now i´ve got something to think about for my spring purchase.

The Jugg has such a nice body as have the Clod. I prefer the "traditional" looks before the TXT. Performance wise it´s another story i now see.

Maybe to get the Mammoth and a Super Clod, to have a bit of both perhaps, if my wallet (and the wife) permits.

Kind of a nice problem to have anyway!

Thanks again for taking your time to share with me!!!

Mammoth is very slow, and noisy... but it is awesome !

The fact the rear tray tips, just tops it all off IMO.

Mind you mine just sits on the shelf not doing anything, but they are a ****** to build, but well worth it in the end.

Oh it has other uses..... when i build a new kit, i chuck all the junk and other parts into the mammoth and then take them out to the trash, or put all my tools / containers in the back and take them into the storage room :(

Yes i am lazy ;)

I think the Mammoth would be cool to drive at the place i found last year. It has a quarry kind of look in some places, where a mammoth would fit in perfect. And it sure would look great on the shelf when not in use.
