Oh dear, I've just tried spraying my Subaru Izpreza 2004 and its all gone wrong. I find my self with a half painted shell. How do I get the Metalic paint off? Ive used turpentine before and not had a problems or any side effects in term of the finish on the body, but this time I cant seem to get the paint off.

Ive bought some nail varnish remover, but what do I do with it? Soak the lexan shell in it or apply it as if I was rubbing the shell down?

Nitro fuel is always the first recommendation for removing paint from

lexan bodies. Unfortunately as Tamiyas paint is fuelproof this won't

help, the same with turps. Nitro fuel can work, but you have to get it

befor ethe paint has had time to fully cure.

The active ingredient in nail varnish remover is acetone. Acetone does

a really good job of breaking down polycarbonates, soaking some in

acetone will cause the thin layers to separate like peeling skin and

makes the polycarbonate cloudy and brittle. The same thing happens if

you try soaking it in brake fluid.

Using it carefully, brushing it on and wiping it off again before it

can attack the bodyshell can work. Experiment first on spare plastic,

such as the wheel wells or the edge of the body, to check it does not

affect the plastic.

If you've only just sprayed on the paint in the last couple of days, you will probably still be able to gently scrape it up and peel it off with your fingernails. If the coat is thicker, this actually works better since it takes more time to cure.

Well, I used some Nail varnish remover, and it was ok till I scratched the inside of the lexan body. so I gave up, my mate now wants it as a crash shell.I might just buy a ready painted one. I know its cheating but Im not a happy bunny!!!!!!

Cheers for you help though guys
