Im just wondering why we cant name the people ripping us off on Ebay. I myself have been caught out. This was sometime ago, but if it happened again, would I tell you guys? Course I would. Infact I've been looking through some Ebay stuff recently only to be alarmed that he could be back to con some more people?

Shouldn't I be able to name and shame him?

I thin kthe problem here is that if we name and shame people TC could be shut down for soemthing like liable is it ? where you write something about someone that has no legal backing ?

What i suggest is maybe putting up a list in simple HTML on a free hosting site such as tripod under an email address that isn't linked to anyone, or creating a list that someone could mail out to people that requested it that was completely un associated to the forum.

this is only a suggestion anyone that does do this would have to take it upon them selves i suggest we don't do this on the forum as it would be a terrible shame if someone got it wrong (ie reported someone that wasn't ripping people off) and this place got shut down.

The problem is also simply that it could be open to false accusations - if you are a genuine ebayer with a decent rating and you end up with a muppet/scammer type buyer, it's not really fair to have your reputation tarnished so easily.

Let's face it, there are plenty of bad buyers out there aswell as sellers.

At the end of the day, people should use eBay's feedback system properly, instead of being so concerned about 'retaliatory' feedback, etc.

the club is currently working on a possible trial of a new approach in the forum - no promises it will stay, but if it works it will be a more structured and controlled way of handling this type of thing.

All the above reasons for why we haven't done it so far are still valid. Its not so much protecting criminals as protecting innocent people, that just happen to have someone calling them a crook because they didn't like the wrapping paper that their purchase came wrapped in. Problem is people remember the first post and everyone sees the thread title even if they don't read the thread, so the damage is done even if the person being accused gets others rallying around him later on in support.

Like I said we'll shortly be trying something new - which hopefully will take us forward.

Scammers will always be out there and for everyone that is named another 50 will spring up to replace them - its the nature of ebay. Really the only long term solution to it is 'education' of buyers and making sure they do everything they possibly can to protect themselves. If some of the steps like sellers not wanting to take pictures with todays paper in them, or your name written on card, because its too much trouble then just walk away.

Perhaps it should be said that some buyers are also scammers. If you all check ebays forum you will find that there are as many complaints about the behaviour of buyers as there are sellers. Ever heard of buys claiming goods havent arrived and expecting a refund?

Scamming works both ways.

Well, if we think someone is a bad seller/buyer, eBay has to agree, nothing more nothing less.

I, myself have people be removed by eBay, because they agreed and they don't agree that easely, I can tell yah.

WE are the ones who have experiance with that particular seller/buyer, eBay has to be convinced, not TC-members.

If the seller/buyer does something wrong, everyone should know IMHO.

Sometimes, large amounts of money are involved...

There went something wrong in the first place and you can defend yourself with the feedback system.

If it was a misunderstanding, problems are mostly solved on eBay itself.

So mostly, problems are solved way before people post their opinions here on TC.

On the other hand, I can understand the policy of  TC.

But what's more important:

-Braking a rule on TC.

-Let someone be ripped off.

I see some people have picked up the "problem" of rules here and it's not my intension to damage the reputation of  TC so let's stick to the rules of TC (incl. me[;)] )

I'm very sure Chris is working his butts of for a better system and I thank him for that.

Actually - all admin are working on the problem. So there are 4 "butts" on the job! [:D]

This "problem" as you call it, is not as simple as it sounds. We really do listen to all of you - your concerns are more than valid, however sometimes there are more to things than people appreciate.

Cheers

Appriciate it.

If it doesn't work, no problem.

At least you try and I thank you for that.
