Strange Countach bumper...

Recommended Posts

Yes, another wierd thing...

Today I got a Countach bumper and it looks quite different from the ones I got.

I checked the catalogues and spare part list but there's no such bumper with a little hole in the middle.

It has curved scratch marks on top, so it can't be from a Countach or Celica.

It looks like it was used on a Porsche but not a 935, it's a little smaller curve...

Here are some pics:

Bottom view, note the extra holes which are not drilled through.

The holes on the sides are different too.

Anyone?

Many thx in advance!

I have that same bumper on one of my countach chassis. I know nothing about its history or the difference except that I suspect this chassis of mine was once a 936 chassis that someone put a countach body on. I got it off ebay from a guy who got it from an estate sale. My guess only but it may be the bumper used in early production kits.

It looks the same as the beige color bumper on 1 of my countachs, the type you get (got!) as spare parts from Tamiya .

Found it:

The 1982 catalogue shows the VW Golf Racing CS and Renault 5 CS with that bumper (smaller hole).

It could well be a new design on later models (>1981), spare parts included.

I also noticed that F-1 cars (CS) from that same period have smaller grey bands on the front diplo tires than the Countach/Celica CS.
