Hi.

I've got a brand new 8.4V 1700MaH NiCD with my newest boat.

I charged it at 4A on my peak charger - when I took it off, it was very hot, and was making some very quiet gurgling noises.

I wanted to reshrink it, so have cut the heatshrink, to find some liquid inside, possibly oil or something, and that the heatshrink on one of the cells looks to have liquid under it also.

Should I be using this, or has one of the cells vented?

Yup, one (or more) of your cells have vented either from overcharging or heat. The liquid is the electrolyte from inside the cells... would avoid getting it on your skin if I were you.

Heakshrinking with fresh plastic is only cosmetic, damage to the cell/s is permanent.

i'd send the pack back to the place you got it from. as long as the pack is rated at 4A you should get a replacement. i know i would try. something like this happedned to my mate. his battery was charging on the floor. i went to turn it off, and it had 'melted' on the carpet!! dead pack. dead carpet. dead funny at the time!
