Hi Andy,

Have you looked at HPI, T-Max or any of the factory web-site for? I started with Kyosho World Cup as my 1st nitro and the hobby store owner told me as new to nitro get an engine that is easy to tune ie not too many adjustment to the carb setting. Therefore, you may not wan to get a Serpent 1st time out unless you have the budget or you got to have the best. I found most RC guys at the tracks are usually helpful and want to help out... RC is the common bond. You may want to spend some time at a track you will likely go to and ask around for advise or hints.

As for off road or on road...with out asking too many questions, I would get the off road which you can at least run on road but not the other way around. Regardless what you decide at the end. Always clean your RC at the end of the day, it will last longer and you'll enjoy it more.[:)]

Andy,

That was good advice, but let me add that if you want to race the car then go along to your local track and find out what most people run. Also find out if one of them is selling a car. Chances are you will get a boatload of free advice, most of which will be excellent. Make sure you get a pull start engine and not too exotic for your first time. The OS CV engines or similar are really easy to tune and very reliable. Steer clear of Nova Rossi and the like until you get familiar with nitro. If you don't want to race then get an offroad, since you can always put different tires on and run on asphalt etc. Make sure you run the car in exactly per the instructions so that it lasts a while. Run it empty before you put it away and add some after run oil to keep it lubed up.

Your best bet would be your LHS as they usually know exactly what is best for the area. Using e-bay to buy a kit is very risky. Ebay is great, but not for starting out in something new. Your LHS will give you advice and support - mine certainly did, but I got my best advice from the guys at the local track. They helped me miss out on a bunch of blind alleys and common mistakes. Go see em even if you don't plan to race.
