Hi mike........

I used to have a brooklands 280 till the rust killed it (they were by far the WORST capri for rusting you will ever find)....  it had been patched so many times it was rotten and i broke and sold it for parts.

Brought another recently but sadly a breaker, had mint interior and wheels which will fetch top dollar in the capri world.

Up untill a few years back had a mag featured 3.1 X pack in moonstone blue (but looked grey to me), featured classic ford march 98, bloke came all the way from scotland to buy it, awesome awesome car with all the pukka early parts, recaro fishnets, modded essex, LSD etc etc and i do regret selling.

Had loads of 2.8 injectors/specials.

Then the mortgage, wife and kids came so im building a modded laser now, i just love the pinto engines.

yes, i had mk2 mexicos/RS2Ks when they were affordable, but not any more.

i can remember it as clear as day when my brother picked me up once in a 2.1 pinto powered mark 2 escort with a full janspeed rally system, the noise it made was top stuff. it'll never be recreated by any of the modern cars, you can't beat a nice rally system and a pinto block and some lovely 45's

mmmmm sounds good !!!!!! ;o)

Hi Steve.

The spec of my engine is a 2090cc using machined 2.8i pistons.

bottom end is lightened and ballanced along with the clutch and flywheel.

carburation is a 38 dgas (could never get on with 45s on the road, nasty midrange flatspots), ported inlets, FR32 cam, heavier springs and alloy vernier.

Have a stage 2 head with bigger valves.

Ashley manifold and system with rear box and chav 3 inch tailpipe removed and changed for a much more subtle looking janspeed tailpipe with rolled lip.

Just cant figuire out the valve clearences, i should know by now.

Had a few spells with modern cars, mk2 MR2, and a runaround pug 405 Mi16 which i have now, all nice and comfy and all that but just dont do it for me at all.

A friend of mine in the capri world (i have quite a few) runs a 24v cossie, nothing new in that, its a common conversion these days, but he has binned the injection and fitted tripple downdraghs off a porsche, get this though, running through a 2.8i 4 speed box and a 1.6!!! back axle with LSD, it eats anything modern on acceleration this side of £50k but it tops out at around 110.

incidently last saturday i was taking a spin in the now famous black eastenders capri down in woking, thats a really nice clean car!!

What was the Mk2 Escort REALLY like?

Mike, i just think its a real shame what the kiddy racers have to put up with these days...

put it this way, mk2 escorts can, and do, still win rallies against much more modern technical jap stuff, and capris make superb track day cars whether 4,6 or 8 cylinders!!!

most youngsters have never really experienced a fast rear wheel drive car, which is a real shame...

its all bodykits and neons these days, not like it used to be at all.

il shut up now before i start to sound like an old git!

Hey, i hate the plastics and neons as much as anyone ( strange for a 15 year old? )

have also been in a few quick RWD cars ( Beamers etc ) and also, my dad used ot have a Subaru Impreza WRX :)

I've always loved the Mk2 Escorts, especially the RS2000. Saw an extremely fine examply of a red one in a car park once, had a look through the window and I love the bare-ness of it, and the whole car looks superb! I really don't like where modern cars are going. All these electronics do most of the driving for you, what happened to good old Driving Experience?

Oh, and the Escort is the second best rally car of all time in my book, only beaten by the mighty Audi Quattro.

Just like you said, most of the boy racers race around in things like Novas or Saxos. Makes you wonder if they realise that RWD cars can get off the line a good bit quicker than front wheel drive ones.

I was lucky enough to do a skidpan, seeing as I'm 14, first off in a FWD Rover, man, understeer or what! (Unless I pulled that long black lever inbetween the two front seats [;)] )

Then I got to go in a Beamer, and that was completely opposite. I managed to drift most of the way round the course one time, I enjoyed it so much.

Sorry to hi-jack your topic a bit, I'll let you carry on discussing "Valve Clearances of a pinto engine"! [:D]
