Academy SB Sport

Does anyone know anything about this car it looks alright for the money but the info on it is scarce.

I have read a review on RCU website and they gave it the thumbs up but the man concern for me is whether there is enough/available spare parts, does Academy even have a website?

Very good cars which are doing well in the off road regionals

considering their price. Comes with full bearings, ball diffs and oil

shocks as well, don't know how they do it for the price. All magazine

reviews I have read only say good things about it (but then they

usually do about everything) and with very few upgrades it makes a

competitive racer. Not sure if there is a problem with spares though as

the SB Sport has been around for a couple of years now and I'm not sure

who the distributor is. Helger racing used to distribute them but there

is no sign of them on Helgers website.

Your best bet is to avoid the sport and go for the pro model. Sport model has a very bad motor mount that really does not work, and it has no slipper clutch, so as your motor slips out, it chews your only good spur gear. Pro model has a motor mount that works, and a slipper clutch so you can jump and not worry about the spur on landing. See my showroom for a mod that allows use of a hot mod motor in this car. As stock it will not handle mod motors due to innadequate gear ratio choices. The rest of the car is pretty good. I have my second runner tuned to handle almost as well as my lazer zx5. The lazer still turns sharper all through the radius of the turn. With a slipper clutch its got a pretty durable drivetrain. If you opt to run without a slipper clutch, be prepaired to replace alot of spur gears, and bevel drive gears. Now, it looks like sbv2 has a better motor mount, even in sport trim, and also may have a slipper clutch as stock. Be sure to double check what you buy or bid on. An older version sport is a head ache that only more money can fix.
