Hi all,

I just won a ebay Touareg, but the seller will have 35 (!!!!) pounds for sending it to the Netherlands. I am just packing a CR-V for a spanish TC member and from Holland to Spain it only costs about 18 euro. Seems to me another seller who wants to get his low price put up by charging extreme high postage costs. Can any uk member tell what shipping of a Tamiya car usually cost to the continent?

Thanks Max

IF you can specify the weight for us, there are a few websites that will state how much it will cost.

But.is the point that you have agreed to this already by agreeing to buy on the auction.

Had he emailed you before the auction and told you how much it was going to cost, or did he only say it would cost £35 after the auction was over.?

If you PM me your address and roughly were the sender is, I'll try and do some digging for you if you like

here is a little bit of information / weight price guide for you you need to ask him how he is sending it.

UPDATED WITH CORRECT FIGURES![:$]

Hi mate,

Basically, if it is more than 2kgs or over a certain combined size then Royal Mail won't take it.  It would then be Parcelforce (see prices supplied above by a fellow member).

Also worth noting, is that NONE of the local post offices (including the one in Cardiff, the capital of Wales) will send Euro 48.  So you would either have Parcelforce Datapost of Parcelforce Standard.  Standard is rubbish and most people wont use it.

Recently had to send a TXT-1 to France.  Cost me £60 by Datapost (should have been £45 by Euro 48), and was 8kg in weight.

Just worth noting as it seems to depend on the local Post Office in the UK as to whether you end up using Parcelforce or Royal Mail with smaller packages.

Cheers

Hi all,

Thanks for the reactions. It just is expensive sending from the UK it seems. I suppose I shouldn't say bad thinks about the Dutch postal service as it seems rather cheap compared to UK.

Thanks again for all your reactions, I will just be a good boy and pay the guy.

Glad  you checked it out. when you do the conversions to euro's you are right it is expensive, but at least, if you'ce checked then you know he's not ripping you off, and it will be about this price.

thats got to be the main thing really.

good luck, hope to see toureg pics soon.

That price is right!!

I recently sent a Misubishi Pajero MTW to Madrid in Spain and as stated because it weighed over 2kg Royal Mail wouldn't take it so I sent it using Parcel Force Euro 48 and it cost me £35 but it's insured, trackable and for sellers peace of mind a signature is required on delivery oh and of course guaranteed delivery in 48 hours to most areas (3 days to others!!)

So don't worry the guy isn't trying to rip you off, sending large items abroad from the UK is just expensive!!

Just to give you and idea it costs roughly £8(€12-ish) to send  a car to an address in the UK!!

ParcelForce is probably the cheapest for things over 2kg going from the UK. Although it used to be Royal Mail owned I believe its now a completely seperate private company (may be wrong though).

Having sent a lot of stuff via ParcelForce they will usually collect your parcel from you for no extra charge - just fill out the labels online and print them out and book a collection time. Not sure if this works if you live in the middle of nowhere, but most major towns / cities in the UK will have a depot who should collect.

Cheers,

Chris

standard royal mail air mail 3-5 days is what Id use.

your in zone 1. I don't know how much a touareg weighs but im sure the box isn't 2kg or more as an xc only weighs about 1.8lg fully loaded therefore Â£35 is absurd espcially when I can get it shipped from hong kong to uk for less in dollars. Approach the seller and propose royal mail air-mail. or get him to post to a tc member to post on. I had my TA05 posted in teh uk from my seller on special delivery signature option for £8.

Wrc Action - I think thats the original posters problem - the package weighs over 2kg, so he can't get it sent via Royal Mail airmail - its too heavy, their limit is 2kgs for airmail.

Yes maybe an XC chassis weighs 1.8kg, but when you add the box and packing materials that extra 200g soon disappears!!

The Pajero I mentioned in an above post tipped the scales at 2015 grams and believe me I weighed and tried to make it lighter but I wasn't happy about the lack of protection, so I contacted the buyer told him the problem and he basically said not to worry he'd rather pay a bit extra for a well packed model than one that'd arrive broken!!

That's because you are talking about totally different mail services

with different prices. I have had spares delivered from Hong Kong, USA

and Australia for less than it costs me to post the same to someone

else in the UK.
