Wide 1/10th shells (235 mm wide, 270 mm wheelbase) where can I get them?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm looking for the WIDE type 1/10th scale CAR bodyshells to go on my off road buggy. Needs to be about 270 mm wheelbase approx. and 235 mm wide approx. The modern 190 / 200 mm wide shells WILL NOT DO.I am mainly looking for a 1980's / early 1990's style shell, something like the Parma Ford Escort RS Cosworth or any Group B cars or similar.

I already have a Parma Ford Escort Cosworth in wide format and also the Parma Porsche shell also in wide format but I have no back wings for either of them 8-(

We used to race this style of bodyshell almost exclusively in the early 1990's at our track at Earlestown, near St.Helens, Merseyside.

Unfortunately no-one seems to make them anymore. I did a search but Bolink, Parma, Frewer and the like don't appear to make them anymore.

Anyone know where I can get them? Or reproduction ones?

Cheers,

Alistair G. (Live Steam Mad on TC)

You might think me an even bigger star , I'm looking at making repros

of some of these bodies from my collection, starting with the yellow one bottom right. Don't expect to see them

for a few months though.

Actually Terry would you believe it, the yellow 6R4 in your showroom picture has been my desktop wallpaper for several days now after Mike_T told me about your showroom entry!!!!

MY GOD I WOULD LOVE to get my hands on a 6R4 shell in mint condition.

If you ever manage to make repro's of these 6R4 shells then PUT ME DOWN FOR AT LEAST 7 of them. I would be VERY interested in DECAL SETS for them as well.

What is the wheelbase and width of the 6R4 shell that you have, in mm?

I will be getting about 5 of those Escort shells NIP tomorrow if I manage to get my hands on them, also.

They are mostly for going on my newly acquired and hopped up Top Force re-re that I am turning into a TF Evo... My dream is to pass my driving test and go racing again just like I did when my late Father used to take me 15 years ago to Earlestown. Racing stopped there years ago...8-( This time I will have to go to Stockport since that is the only club that is "nearby" for me to get to. Shaun from LHS Vulcan Hobbies goes there racing every Thursday at 7:00 p.m. IIRC.

I have a tremendous liking for the Group B rally supercars, I have the Duke DVD's of them, I grew up with them on the TV on the Lombard RAC rally of GB, they're amazing.

I also saw that someone had a realistic looking Group B Peugeot 205 in their showroom ;-

AWESOME!!

Any of these Group B shells in 1/10th WIDE format would be VERY welcome, I'll be buying a load of them!

Cheers,

Alistair G.

Hi again guys, I was so excited about this, and so wanted to see these shells produced again, that I just wrote a message to Frewer ;-

*********************************************************

"Dear Sirs,

In the late 1980's / early 1990's you made a series of Lexan (Polycarbonate)

bodyshells for 1/10th scale R/C electric off road buggies. These were

road-going car body shells, which were "shaped" into "WIDE" format

(to fit the 250 mm wide chassis' popular at the time) with a wheelbase of about

270 mm (again to fit the chassis' which were popular back then).

They were mostly of the late 1980's / early 1990's style of cars, for example

Ford RS 200, Metro 6R4, and so on.

I would like to draw your company's attention to the fact that the Off-Road

Buggy scene (using "WIDE" 250 mm width buggies) are becomming more

popular and making a comeback, especially from Tamiya, the world's no.1

company making these buggies, for example Tamiya have recently re-released

the TOP FORCE buggy which these WIDE 1/10th scale bodyshells fit,

and the "Dark Impact" buggy from Tamiya is due for imminent release (was

shown recently at the world's biggest Hobby / Toy / RC car show at

Nuremberg, Germany).

Me, along with a significant number of the 14,000 Tamiya Club members over

at www.tamiyaclub.com would like very much to see these beautiful bodyshells

make a return as they had so much more character than the modern bland

looking cars like the oh-so-many Dodge Stratus / Protoform shells that we are

all sick of that look identical to each other and look aweful. We would like

very much to see some of the Group B Supercars from the 1980's such as

the World famous Peugeot 205 16V, Ford Escort RS Cosworth, Ford

Sierra RS Cosworth, Ford Escord RS 2000, Talbot, Ford RS200, Metro 6R4,

standard mini-Metro, and so on. My favourite is the Metro 6R4!

These cars are still very much fondly remembered and much loved amongst

R/C motorsport fanatics and I'm sure that a series of these cars would sell

well.

Indeed, your company (so I have heard) indicated that the best selling body

shell from that time was the Frewer "METRO 6R4", this is pictured here

for example ;-

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/getuserimage.asp...006135658_5.jpg

One guy on Tamiya Club also has this body shell which he believes might have

been made by Frewer ;-

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/getuserimage.asp...003100556_1.jpg

I would appreciate it if you could tell me as to whether your company has

any plans to bring back these R/C body shells in 1/10th scale, WIDE format

in clear Lexan (polycarbonate).

I looked on your website but could not find anything about these.

Sincerely,

Alistair Gutcher

[address given]"

*********************************************************

In fact I was so excited that I cocked it up slightly and had to send it in 2 halves LOL since I hit send a bit early! Should get their attention even more hopefully LOL.

Wonder what they will say or even if they will reply? LOL.

I noticed that they are in New Zealand so there is a good chance of that at least some of their releases would be of cars that were seen in Britain and Europe in general!!

Cheers,

Alistair G.

HEY HEY HEY I just got a reply from Frewer, which was quite encouraging. Can you believe this? LOL. ;-

********************************************************

"Dear Alastair,

Yes, we made this body in the pics.

We still have most of the moulds you speak of and could reproduce them if

needed.

From memory the ones you refer to are; (in 250mm wheelbase)

Metro 6R4

Ford Sierra Cosworth

Peugeot 205

Plus a number of 270mm (235mm wide bodys such as Holden Commodore,  Alfa

156, earlier Alfa (made 2 models) Ford RS200, Ford Sierra Sapphire, Ford

Mondeo, Vectra, Peugeot 405 plus some more I cannot remember.

Can you tell me more about this comeback and what we should be doing and

Why.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Kevin Frewer"

********************************************************

...I would appreciate it if you guys could give me a few pointers on a reply that I could give to Mr. Frewer (I'm not a flippin' sales man LOL just an R/C fanatic!!)...HELP!!

Also THEY STILL HAVE ALL OF THE MOULDS!! Just look at the list of fabulous bodies that Frewer had!!

If we show some interest in this then maybe Frewer will do our bidding and make us some new shells!! I wish...

Cheers,

Alistair G.

Wow, well done Alistair, great response! I would hazard a guess to say that just through Tamiya Club you could sell at least 20 6R4s... I know I'd buy at least 2 or 3... and I'd love an RS200 and a fresh 205 too (to go with my pictured one ;-) ). I have seen Schumacher do limited production runs of ProCats and Cat XLS's after prodding by enthusiasts, so I would love to see Mr Frewer do the same.

If I can get a 6R4, then I won't have to try and find a proper body for my Mini Mustang... which means I could RUN IT!!!!!

Good luck matey, keep me (us) informed!!!

Now I'll leave the floor open for terry.sc ... he will have some thoughts I guarantee ;-)

That Parma Escort is plain UGLY! Looks like it ran into the wrong end of a bus.

Terry, you can also put me down for a 6R4! Even if i haven't got a chassis i'll buy one!!

Are you REPRO'ing it yourself, or are Kamtec?

I'll be able to measure the 6R4 tomorrow, but it is designed for the

shorter cars from the mid 80s, so the wheelbase will be around 250mm

and too short for a Top Force. Looks good on a Hotshot though. The

Escort shells should be able to be ordered from anyone who deals with

Helger Racing.

This time I will have to go to Stockport since that is the only

If it's Thursday I guess thats the club I run myself,[:D] a fun social

evenings racing. Fridays is Phoenix Raceway, a much more serious club

than mine.[6]

If I did repro shells I would do them myself. I have a few Kamtec

shells and I am not too impressed with the quality of the mouldings,

mainly due to the surface finish of the patterns and obvious vent holes

moulded into the shells.

I would also look at improving the bodies if possible, for example a

more scale like wing would be better on the 6R4 and I think the short

RS200 has much better wheel arch design than the long version so would

look at modifying the design. Generally Kamtecs patterns are just

poured into an original body with no chance to alter the design.

Yes, Schumacher will do a production run to order as long as you are

prepared to pay the setup costs, usually in the £150-200 region, before

actually buying any of the shells. Depends on whether Frewer will want

the same or if they will have a minimum order.

Now I'll leave the floor open for terry.sc ... he will have some thoughts I guarantee ;-)
Might have to scrap any plans to repro shells if you can get

them from Frewer themselves, but then again they might only do a one

off run. Back tomorrow with some thoughts when I have a bit more time

to put my think about it.

Alright lads, I remember Shaun ( Shauns Dad ) telling me that he races at Millenium Raceway. And Al, Stockport isn't really "Nearby" at all is it B)

Hi Mike,

You might view them in a different light maybe if you were to see them in the flesh instead of the photo' in the advert.

Here are some pictures that I just took of the ones that I own, they are wonderful to look at IMHO. It's very obvious that a LOT of thought and effort went into the design of the moulds for these shells, they are superb bodyshells, I personally think.

See ;-

I have 2 Parma Ford Escort RS Cosworths on order at Vulcan Hobbies, I'll let you know if anything turns up.

BTW anyone got any ideas on a suitable reply that I could give to Frewer to further encourage them to produce a 6R4 shell for us?

Cheers,

Alistair G.

How about a slap down here of anyone who is prepared to buy a shell... or two... or three? If Mr Frewer sees how many are wanted, it might sway his decision.

I personally want two, one to replace my original one (Computervision paint scheme), and another to run (paintscheme unknown). If they were available, I would probably order more over time.

Who else is up for it? 2 will not work.... need many more definite orders than that...

Terry.sc, can you please put up here the dimensions of the body (track, wheelbase), so that we can measure our old buggies? I know mine fit on a Mini Mustang, but it might help others who have a chassis and don't know if the body will fit...

Oops, forgot about that, too much to do and not enough time to do them recently. Anyway here they are:

Short original RS200 (I think the mould would have been modified to create the later version)

Width Front arches 215mm Rear arches 230mm

Wheelbase 250mm

Long later RS200 (the one Frewer still has the mould for)

Width Front arches 237mm Rear arches 245mm

Wheelbase 255 to 280mm

Metro 6R4

Width Front arches 220mm Rear arches 230mm

Wheelbase 250mm

ParmaPSE make the bodies, Helger Racing are the UK distributors so do

not sell direct.  Most UK model shops can order them, but they

will have to be a special order. Lets wait and see if they arrive for

Alistair, if they do I will be ordering one myself.

They aren't listed on www.parmapse.com, I presume they don't

expect to sell any of them in the USA. You could try contacting them to

see if they could supply one.

Hi Mike,

Very True. Yours looks ALOT better!

Just thinking about these wide bodied car/buggy things.. Thought of a few shells i'd love to see;

Ford Escort Mk1 ( Bubble Arches ); http://www.rafmsa.co.uk/gallery2/13.jpg

Ford Escort Mk2 Mexico ; http://galeria.forocoches.com/data/3101/19...Mexico_-_02.jpg

Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000 ; http://www.rsownersclub.co.uk/car_info/white.jpg

( Spotted a trend ? )

Mk1 Golf GTi ; http://www.angelfire.com/film/auto_photo_g..._GTi_Mk1_11.jpg

Heh, also would love to see some Sierra's.

Hey Al, you know they race buggies in Southport too? ( Scorcher on the beach, followed by buggy on the track [;)] )
