New members showrooms defaulting to accept comments?

Would this not make more sense?

I see loads of newbies posting items and obviously looking for feedback, who will never get comments because their showroom by default has the comments feature turned off, and they don't know how to turn it on.

I sometimes email them and tell them I can't leave feedback unles they turn comments on, then explain how to do it, and they are usually grateful, but I'm not gonna constantly do that.

I've also explained this to people in the chat *loads* of times - they just thought no-one wanted to comment on their stuff, and thus felt left out and not as welcome as the 'regulars'.

So is there any real reason to default new showrooms to not allow comments, the way it current is?

(Also, a note under the bottom of comments if people have pending comments that says they have to click the green button to go live - I've left comments that never appeared because the individual could see them and thus though everyone else could as well. I've had that conversation with a good few people as well. Obvious to the regulars maybe, but surprisingly common...)

I'm willing to guess that this was prompted by the chap with 911 and the GT40?

Yeah, I really wanted to drop some comments on those also, but he

definetely wasn't aware of the comments switch... I also thought about

emailing him as well , but I too do this often, and didn't want to be

the 'creepy guy' always trying to get people to post my comments! Guess

put it "on" ... mhhhh...

But if -as a newbie- you don't know about the comment option, yes.. figures now..

I'm with you on this one as well, when I joined the first images I put up were for the competition, and I had to get help to switch it on. I think that people who don't know, might think that others just don't want to comment on their models as opposed to not being able to.

Been to his home page,emailed him on the problem and explained the fix.

That GT40 is one cool ride.Also take a look at subscriber 'scollins' GT40 too see  another GT40 in the making,loads of work and attention to detail.

Its now the default for new subscribers - not quite sure why it never was.

Has this gone pear shaped again? Solan has just posted something i would of liked to comment on,i have emailed him,wait and see.

I have contacted about half a dozen members to let them know about this so far and it caught me out when i joined.

You have to explain that comments must be added manualy and that it is up to you if you allow or not for EVERY comment left,as this seems to fox some members also.

Another two today.Is this because they were already registered before you changed the default setting? Could you send out an email to ALL tc members just to let them know of this little problem or is it down to us if we can be bothered?

I'll check it, could be a bug, or maybe they've just turned the feature off?

Either way in the meantime a friendly email sorts it out (and also makes newbies realise members look out for each other)

I noticed a couple the other day (can't remember offhand who) nice cars but no comment setting, emailed them but no reply. Thats gratitude for ya lol.
