Hi there,

I am wanting to build a car trailer but havent a clue where to start, does anyone out there have a car trailer that they could take photos of that may show me how i should build one, i dont want to copy your design's i just want to get ideas of where to start and how to go about it.

The thing that im having real trouble getting my head round is how to mount the wheels on some form of axel or trailing arm as i want to keep the bed as low as possible.

If you can help in any way i'd realy appreciate your advive and or pictures.

A set of plans would be so helpfull but im not building my hopes up for getting that.

Thanks for the pics "racingreen "

The only thing is that im wanting to make a trailer to put a car on top so having suspension mounted like that would be no good.

Thanks anyway and at least you had a go at helping.

There are some wicked looking car trailers in some members showrooms. Do a general search in showrooms i think theres a member called california which has a superb trailer even has pics of it attached to an XC and a escort cossie driving up the ramps cool or what.

Hope this helps.

Cheers Ryan,

I have been looking through showrooms for a while now and have got some ideas but there are very few pictures showing close ups of how the trailers have been put together, it does look as thow most come from a German guy, have a look at http://www.modellanhaenger.de/ he's one clever chap and i wish i could make things like he does.

Well the search goes on m8, the reason behind me wanting to make my own is realy for 2 reasons:-

Its far too easy to go out and buy one that someone else has made up. (theres no chalenge in that)I am suffering from spinal problems (already had a nasty opperation on my c-spine and im looking at more lower down, not a good thing for a 36yr old bloke) i need to get my teeth into a project to take my mind off things and because i am no longer working i am working on a real tight budget, i might have to sell bits n bobs from my collections (R/c and scalectrix cars) to fund the projects as i go on but never mind if thats what it takes.

Cheers for the advice and hope to show more models as time goes on.

On my boat trailer I used the tandem axle set off a Tamiya flat bed

trailer. It is practically a bolt in swap except I had to widen the

axles. It works well having functional suspension and realistic looks.

The bad news is that this is a very expensive route as I had to

cannibalize a trailer kit to do it.[:'(]

The trailer is in my showroom with the Honda CR-V, if you need close up shots of it let me know.

On the other end of the spectrum are the trailers that my SC's sit on,

these are as low budget axles as you can get. Not good for lots of use

as they do not ride on bearings but good for display. I can give you a

shot of those axles if you like as well.

In the future I am planning on making a trailer for my Scorcher and my bruiser will pull it. I am going to use a solid axle with Bruiser leaf springs. Kind of like my real 4x8 trailer I own. But that is after my million projects I need to finish.

Be great to see how you get along.

Sounds like your kinda like me, i have a couple of projects going at the min aswell.

So because of that the trailer has taken a back seat for now as i have put my money into a crawler project, i will post pics in my showroom once the Gecko 60/40 chassis chassis arrives from the states.
