Does  anyone remember a few years back seeing a scale ferrari that some guy built and he had made an exact replica of every part down to the valves etc, it actually started and when he pressed the accelerator with his finger it revved and sounded like a ferrari only smaller.

I was just telling a guy at work about it and can't find any links to pictures or anthing, does anyone have the video or links to info about it ?

I'm sure this was featured on Top Gear or Tomorrow's World, in the same programme they featured a fully working scale model jet-engined Concorde, which WAS r/c and was actually flown for filming as part of some Hollywood blockbuster or other....regarding the Ferrari I agree, great engineering but WHY??

Just downloading 2 videos of the car.

Looked at the build-up pics and its an amazing work of art.

And why are people asking 'why did he bother'? At the end of the day, he has something no-one else has, something unique. If he has the talent then why not use it, he will have more pride in that car than anyone would have with a NIB sand scorcher sat in the loft.

I remember him saying how much he loved the real thing, but no way could he afford to buy one.So it pays hommage to the full size, shows his huge talent and enthusiasm. He loves it,as do many other folk,i would say that they were, good enough reasons as to "why".

Why bother??

Wasn't Sir Edmund Hilary asked the same question when he climbed Everest??

His reply, Because it's there!!

If I had the facilities and abilities to build something half as good as that I'd be well happy!!

I admire the guy's patience and attention to detail - must be immensely satisfying to have built the fully working replica from scratch - Its got working temp and Ammeter gauges in the dash [:o]. 12 years to complete - that is dedication!

To my mind it proves you could build any car you wanted after that pretty much, real or 1:1. Think about it, he has probably learnt all the skills and gone through all the processes involved in building a real car from design through to final working prototype.

I notice he now has a business building one third scale fully working replica's:

Looks like he uses more traditional methods rather than computer based prototyping for parts? Look at the Ferrari 330 P4 he is building - now that will be an amazing replica.

Also check out the workshop in the background of some of the shots... I doubt there is much he couldn't make in there!!!!!

It's not so much 'why bother', I mean surely it could have been made driveable? - either by a small person, or by RC. 1:3 scale just seems like an odd choice - I suppose any smaller and the engine would probably not work. But I agree - it is an awesome peice of work...

JLB, I have been looking for that site for a long time now, a friend showed me a video of this a few years ago. I was blown away. Thanks!

Like I mentioned, there was a video of this thing running... does anyone have that link?

Thanks again!
