Hi all havent posted anything for while as i ve been setting up a new business so its been busy busy busy and not much time for rc boo hoo [:'(]!. Anyway I have a cc01 and have got it ready for trialing this spring summer. I had an idea of a cheap fun trialer xc fake for my 6yr old son using a tl01 chassis raising the height with longer shocks and bigger tyres from cheapo rc quad. I have aqquried a blackfoot body and am now in the process of fitting it. I was wondering to give it  more of a chance in offroading should i lock the rear diff or will it stripe the gears or do other damage to the gearbox or motor (running 540 in it). Its ball raced and has got mtronics 27 esc.

Me boy loves the look so far and he cant wait to get it running.

Just like to say this site looks better and better some of the showroom entries have been outstanding . Keep up the good work all TC members.

Nice low cost crawler idea [H], as long as you drive it only off road you can lock the diff, transmission will be fine.

I might just leave it to see how my son uses it when we go out with it. Knowing him he will try and go every where with it lol. I dont want to lockthe diff  then he keeps going from road, pavement, concrete straight on to rough loose stuff. Just need to give it proper raz outside. Seems to ride ok with the larger tyres on the touring rims.

If it's seeing partial off-road use, it'd be a good idea to pack the rear or both diffs with a heavy grease such as Quaker State Wheel And Bearing Lube or perhaps Slick 50 One Grease. It'll limit diff-dumping but still allow good on-road performance.

One thing to remember on the TL-01 diffs - don't tighten the screws too far, they can lock up and cause problems.

For greater suspension travel, consider a Long Arm Suspension Kit for the car, they're available on eBay for around $30 or you can scavenge one off a Baja Champ.

That body with those wheels is a great looking combo!

Ive got silicone grease or does it have to be thicker. Does it matter what the grease is used for normally like grease gun stuff. This does sound a better idea rather than locking them and it can be used on multiple surfaces. Thanks for the info [:D].

Doesn't matter too much; just should be pretty thick. Remember this will only limit wheelspin on the free side, so very thick is best. This is actually a good idea on-road because it'll lessen the TL-01's characteristic darting at high speeds.

Now that I think about it, locking one of the diffs wouldn't hamper on-road performance much.
