I have just purchased a Hotshot I (Used) on eBay. I gave $79.00 USD for it shipped. Do you think that was a rip off ??????

I guess it needs the triangle wheel mounts. I have 2 but will need to get 2 more. And it needs a body, but looking at it, as long as the gears are good, it will just need a good cleaning.

I wanted to know if there are any particular items I should be looking at when I get it????? Thanks for any info.

Here are eBay pictures of it:

These pictures were in the auction too. So I don't know if I will be getting the Hornet chassis and radio also. If I do, it will be worth it for sure.

If it had come with a body I would say you got a good price, but a new shell will cost you more than you paid for the car and they are hard to come by used. Still though it looks to be in good condition...check the upper rear wishbones as they break regularly due to the strain applied by the rear suspension linkage. The front gearbox wishbone location holes wear out badly but your car has the SRM support brace fitted so you shouldn't notice too much play. Also, the chassis upper-to-lower screw location holes strip frequently in the lower chassis half due to the many years of constant over-eager removal/refitting of it when changing radio equipment

A nice thing about your car is that it has a 'series 1' bumper fitted to it. They are very rare, albeit weaker than the 'series 2' version (which is why Tamiya replaced it), and because your car has this bumper fitted to it the front gearbox mouldings and metal bumper stay will be different to 99% of all the spare gearboxes that become available on ebay so bear that in mind if buying spare parts. If you buy new front gearbox housings you will have to get a 'series 2' bumper stay and then file down the lugs of your bumper to make it fit on the car. Or you could just fit a 'series 2' bumper to it of course!

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much. I will check all that you have talked about.

I found a NIB body, so I will try and get it.

As for the Radio gear and Hornet, the guy told me they are included and he found the Hornet body to go with it, so I would say even though there is no body, it is still a good deal.

Thanks again for the response! [;)]

The gearboxes are usually good, very rarely damaged. As you have found

bodies are easy to come by, easier to find them NIB for some reason.

Triangular drives do break on the Hotshot, but later versions seem to

be more robust. They are used on the Thundershot as well so it should

be easier to get.

Bad points with the Hotshot is the front end. The front wishbones (F

parts) are expensive. One problem with the front wishbones is the

damper mount bending and breaking, but it is inevitable that they will

wear at the balljoint kingpin fixing. The ball pivot cups in the

wishbones wear badly and the aluminium pivot balls wear rapidly so you

have loads of play in the front end.

Yours seem to have had very little wear, plastics do look good and as

has been pointed out it is the early version with mark1 front bumper

and gearboxes. The rear cage is also unmarked, which makes a nice

change. You can tell it has had an easy life as both front anti roll

bar supports are undamaged, usually one of the fingers break off.

Nice find, really nice deal there.

WOW, tons of info. Thanks to everyone.

Yeah, I have always wanted a Hotshot, but they seemed to go for too much than I was willing to pay for a used buggy. (Too many other projects). But I could not turn down this price to get one.

It will probably sit for a while like my Boomerang does as I will have to finish up my FAV, Bruiser, Vanquish, Orig Frog, Daughter's Hornet, Group 2 VW Golf, F103 (x2), Sand Rover, Kyosho Sling Shot, Mugen Manx, and Sand Scorcher before I start into this one. But I will collect parts for it while it sits so I can have it ready to restore when I get the time.

****, I have way too many projects going on..................[8-)]
