Hi guys,

After not finding a racing buggy today to buy, I decided the next thing I wanted to add to the rapidly mounting collection of cars would be a monster truck. I decided on a TXT-1, so off I went to the shops. Being a Sunday there were limited shops open, but I found one with a TXT in stock in the city.

Problem is, when I went to pay for it, he asks me for a thousand bucks!!!! Is this really what they're selling for??? I nearly filled my pants when he said a grand....needless to say he copped an earful.

Anyway, I didn't buy it.....:D

Anyone here from Oz and bought a TXT? Mind saying how much you paid to help out a fellow digger down on his luck? :)

Why dont you buy from across the water from you in Hong Kong.

Stellamodels.net was selling them for $285 US and i think they have em in stock.

Hey, thanks for the tip!! I'll look into that right now!! :D

I was out in some LHS's yesterday and spotted one TXT-1 priced at $649 Canadian [:o].  I then spotted another at $549 at a Canadian Online shop.  So you definitely have to shop around !  Especially when those prices don't even include the 15% sales tax !  I have a sneaking suspicion that the txt-1 is soon to be discontinued so get one while you can.

Just ordered the TXT-1 from Stella Models. Considerably cheaper than the $630 that I was quoted today. I hope everything goes well with the transaction, I'm pretty nervous about it as this is the first thing I've ever bought over the net.

I have a feeling that the fella who quoted me $1000 for the truck was a bit of a rip-off merchant!!

Dont worry about Stella I bought my txt from them and they were sensational.

I have bought loads off them since my txt and everytime I have been impressed.

Enjoy the truck they are great fun![H]

Hey Corpse',

I'm also thinking about buying one of these big suckers....  Tower Hobbies has them for $345, but are they still available through Stella Models for $285 ..? I couldn't see them listedon their website....  (Yes, they are waaaay to expensive here in Australia....)

Anyways, have you built yours yet..? How difficult are they to build..? Let me know if they're worth it...

Hey Rod!!

Yeah, mine's built. No issues whatsoever, its not any more difficult than any other Tamiya model, just bigger, so it takes much more time.

When I bought mine I think the stock was low, then after I bought it the stock was gone!! So I guess I go the last one. Ask Stella if they are getting any more stock in. Mine was $525 Australian delivered to my door, only a week after ordering.

The only thing I don't like about it is the body. I would prefer a Juggernaut or a similar hard plastic body, only thing that spoils it in my opinion. Also get the full ball bearing set. I didn't, and I regret it. I don't plan on running it till I do. Cheap insurance for your driveshafts I reckon.

Yeah I agree i don't like the body much either, well at least the colour of the body. I fully intend to custom paint the spare one you get with the kit (when I get it that is, still hasn't arrived yet from Germany. I guess it was only a week ago and the postage was cheap so its probably being dragged by a snail)

In the long run I may get a body from these guys

Hey 'Corpse', (boy do i feel a bit weird calling you that......can we have a name..?..!!......!)

I've bit the bullet, and ordered my TXT-1 today...!!! Yay for me..!!  Stella models got some more back in stock, and for US$285, I just couldn't resist. (Local Toyworld store here in Australia quoted me AU$770 earlier today, so when I found out Stella had more in stock, for just under AU$500 delivered, that clinched it the deal !!

I am now anxiously awaiting it's arrival.........c'mon,,,,,c'mon.....c'mon......

You can call me Corpsey if you like....or Mr Thrower...[;)]

Bit cheaper from Stella, innit? There is a shop in Melbourne that tried to sell me a TXT for a grand!! Strange thing is, its the same bloke that I bought my two SRB chassis from (Scorcher and Superchamp) for 250 bucks!!

Congrats on the TXT...they truly are a lovely kit to build. After you're finished it how about if you bring that Superchamp of yours over to my place and we crack it open, eh?[:P]

I got mine today from a Ebay dealer in Germany at about half the price it is in my local hobby store.

I'm glad I did get one because by the looks of things TXT's seem to be getting harder to get hold of. Browsing through loads of UK sites (and US ones') looking for upgrades it seems that a lot of shops are out of stock of TXT's, even the official Tamiya site doesn't have them for sale just now. I'm wondering whether Tamiya are going to discontinue it and launch a TXT 2 sometime in the next year. If they do it will be interesting to see what they do with the kit. They could start by supplying a full ball race kit, decent motors and an underneath skid plate, its a con you don't get these with current model.

I'm gald I got mine when it did then. Shame its discontinued it looks like an amazing kit, I'm almost tempted to keep mine a NIB but I just can't wait to build it.

So a TXT-2 has to be not long in coming I reckon

I thought it was being replaced by the 3 speed?  Given there isn't a very large market for these top-of-the-range electric vehicles I couldn't see Tamiya offering two competing* products at the same time.

* in the eyes of Joe Public, not obviously in the eyes of the community on this board.

Am not sure its replacement is the Hilift, I personally see the Hilift more as a Juggernaut and/or XC successor, while the TXT was a huge monster truck, but only time will tell if a TXT-2 will come. Or maybe a big MT basher/racer with independant suspension to compete with E-Maxx and E-Zilla, something like a EP TNX introduing also Tamiyas first BL motors and ESCs???

Excellent [Y]!  Yes - they are huge kits - should look something like this when done:

One upgrade I recommend is the Stainles Steel screw kit from RC Screwz, makes wrenching a lot easier.  Oh, and some ball bearings.  Enjoy the build !  Make sure you get some pics in here when you are done !

I got mine built last Sunday and yeah its an amazing kit.

However Rroodd here's some advice.

1) Make sure you have a big wide pair of pliers, there's a ton of ball ends to get attached and some of them are awkward to get on.

2) Make sure you get those grub screws into the universal drive shafts nice and tight they come loose almost immediately even with threadlock. Oh and make sure you don't loose any grub screws onto the carpet, why can't Tamiya give you spares you might actually need for a change.

3) Don't even bother using the MSC, the TXT is the one kit that HAS to have a ESC.

4) Again the TXT HAS to have a high torque servo, two are better if you want a decent turning circle. Make sure you make the servo saver with all the metal rings otherwise your steering will be really, really sluggish.

5) Don't expect great speed with the standard 540 motors, the TXT is VERY slow if you're used to your buggies flying about. Its all about torque here.

6) You HAVE to glue those huge tyres on, Expect your performance to be reduced by about 50% if you don't. Its a ridiculous saving of face for Tamiya to tell you not to.

7) Enjoy your TXT. It looks incredible just sitting there, its a work of art. Its a shame Tamiya have put an end to it, unless they they have TXT 2 in the works.

Thanks for the tips, mobias..Much appreciated. I will certainly be using full ball bearings, and hopefully get a high-torque servo for the steering. I'm only going to use the standard 540's, because I definitely got this kit just for crawling around, and I don't wan't/need any speed.  What is a cheap(er) ESC to use, that is suitable just for the stock motors..? I don't really want' to pay huge bucks for something that can handle super modified motors....

Backtomyroots - I absolutely LOVE those Jugg tyres on it.. Are they hard to come by , new...?

Cheers, Rod.
