The rings are off a TA04 so they are regularly available and you can

either boil them, acetone them or if you didn't use to much glue, prise

them apart with the tip of a blade.

Otherwise, if they appear flat, just try to re-assemble the diff, and

just take extra care, you might just of built it slightly

wrong.

I'm a bit mystified. They look completely flat - they're certianly glued flat, there isn't even the smallest of gaps between that and the shafts that I can see with the naked eye. I've completely stripped and rebuilt it all, but can't find anything obviously wrong, or out of alignment, but the problem is still there.

Unless anyone has any other ideas, I'd have to assume its a faulty bearing somewhere that just isn't running smooth, or something of that nature. I'll have to phone up the supplier where I bought it and see what they do in these situations.

Thanks for all your help on this!

If anyone is interested in a manufactured layshaft conversion for the DI, then email RW Racing neil@rwracing.co.uk

and ask for pricing, he has the bits to make a complete layshaft, I

have also requested the layshaft to be made to accept an RW made gear

as I don't think many of uss have press facilities to press off and on

the layshaft gear.

The layshaft will accept a complete B4 slipper clutch assembly

(including spring) but will hopefully use METRIC nut for

adjustment.  Been told it will be a week or two before I get the

first one to test.  But then if you lot email him, might be

quicker.

I wonder whats taking Tamiya so long in releasing the hop ups for this car? Its obvious that small aftermarket companies have taken great interest in this model. With carbon towers, and now a pending slipper clutch, its unusual that the parent company is missing these opportunities. My DI still sits very pretty now with a jr z590 m servo, but as yet unused, because Im waiting for a slipper clutch. I just dont like running a high powered off roader without one. The longer I wait, the more I also want proper factory shock towers, proper fitted alloy shocks, alloy suspention braces.... Hurry up Tamiya!

Just to note, RW is making the part on my request not because they seen

a market for it.  The reasons for not waiting for a Tamiya item is

that I don't want to wait, I don't want to have to buy MORE pinions and

B4 spur gears are more common than ants.

Seems like a good idea using the b4 clutch, so more common spurs and pinions can be used. My Kyosho dampers are just a bit long in front, so I still need a proper fitted dampers. Hopefully Tamiya will release a hop up option for shock towers, because the stock ones will not hold up to racing. Hm, I guess Im just impatient!

Update on the diff problem for those interested:

On exchanging parts with the front diff it turns out that there is something wrong with the rear diff housing plates, diff plates, or diff joints. Its very odd because they seem totally flat and I've checked them with straight edges, etc. The weirder thing is that in the course of troubleshooting, I swapped in each of the front diff joint/plates in turn - now, if I swap in either one of the front diff joints it runs smooth. The front diff also runs smooth with either rear part substituted, but not both (work that one out if you can!).

Anyway, during the course of substituting, I realised that the front diff joints actually fit the rear joint perfectly and also the housing perfectly. The front diff joints are all metal, built to higher tolerances, will conduct heat away from the rear diff and you can still replace the diff plates if they get worn (more easily in fact, since you don't have to glue them on). So since I have to replace the rear diff parts anyway, I'm just going to order front diff joints and some diff plates to go in the rear.

However, I have a problem in that I can't see any of the spares listed yet in any of the UK stores that I know about (apart from the actual diff plates, which are TA04 parts). So none of the front/rear diff housings or joints are available yet as far as I can see! Is this true, or do I just not know where to look? If anyone knows where I can get spares for the DI at the moment, could you please let me know?

Part no is:

9808059 Front diff joint L&R (MJ1 & MJ2)

Cheers

RC Champ is great to deal with, excellent prices and fast shipping.

I have also noted that Stella Models and RC Station also have parts, and the prices are very good!

I have emailed them and am just waiting for a reply as i have tried every where to get an A parts tree be very carefull not to break the rear gearbox case as its seems to be very elusive

Unfortunately I think you'll be out of luck as I don't think the "A" Parts have been released.

It seems to me that at the moment it's B-C-D-E parts plus the gear sets and of course tyres and rims.

Really? That's great. I've emailed them for a list too, just have to work out what I want [;)]

I know they're certainly cheap, I got my DI from there for $90[:D]

Thanks for that recommendation for RC-champ! None of the UK suppliers could get any of the parts I needed. They can, they're a good price even including shipping and they have them in stock - excellent service!

Hi DCM

Your car's paint job looks great, did I read someware you paint bodys for people, would you paint a body with the AUS flag draped on it, how much would it cost. Looking foward to getting the slipper clutch, then I will put a mod in my car and race it in mod, the 19 turn worked ok, did not get too hot.

Hopping to get the carbon chassis done this weekend, the bottom is cut , need to make the posts and cut the top, have still to work out the best way to get the battery in and out.

Only need to take a little over 100 grams out of the car to make it just on weight.

How do you get such precise paint fades on the bodywork? It looks really good!

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a slipper clutch?
