I have read through endless posts about re re's and the like , now as we know there is light at the tunnel with the 3 speed's return all be it in a different form , but when i ask "WHAT WOULD YOU WANT ?" i mean do you want more life like cars/trucks or more racing type buggies ?

I would personally like to see more hard bodied type cars/trucks

as in lunchbox's,pumpkins (now re re'd) xc's like the mu and crv

and old style blackfoot shell'd trucks ![:D]

i'd personally like to see old retro cars like mk1 escorts and super sport fiesta released lexan or hard body would be good, just decent qualty details would de great, i mean even mk1 golfs and other retro cars would be top [:D]

I had a real Mk 1 Fiesta and the body shell was about as strong as if it had been made from lexan [:)] found this out after I rolled it and the roof crumpled until it met the top of the seats.

But yeah, a Mk 1 Golf would be good too.

Great topic !  I have to admit the first thing that caught my attention with tamiya many years ago was the scale realism !  So, I would like buggies similar to the real ones ie:  Wild One  Trucks that look like a real truck, ie: Mountaineer, TXT-1.

Of course not a re-release as with all the new battery and motor technology today we would need to have vehicles built for today's standards.  So basically - I want Tamiya to provide me with RC Models that look like they are a shrunk down version of the real thing.  That would be cool.  [H]

just my opinion but I find todays generation, although technically advanced - they don't look anything like a real vehicle with the body off [:@].

I must give Tamiya some praise though for their real life vehicle look alikes (Tamiya big rigs, tanks etc) but I think they hit the nail on the head with the newest creation the Hi Rise F-350 [Y].  In fact I have already started saving for two of them !

G'day,

Good question.

For me, it can be summed up in two words: buggies and realism. Ideally I want both, but I'd settle for just realism. In reality, I know I'll probably get neither.

I'm surprised that I'm practically the first one to vote for buggies.

To me, the buggies are what make Tamiya. Where would we be without the Sand Scorcher? Or Hornet? Or Hotshot? Sure, we'd have the 3 speeds and trucks. But buggies outnumber them, both in model types and overall sales, and collectively they account for most of what we term "the vintage era".

Buggy design has been taken to the limits of speed and space-aged mediocrity for years.

But now that Tamiya have tested the waters with re-releases, there's no reason why they can't say to themselves "You know what? We do realism pretty well. How about we design a few more realistic, scale, off-road R/C cars and buggies??".

Realism, realism, realism!

There's a million interesting off-road cars Tamiya could model, but they need to explore the reasons why we collectors are prepared to pay US$2000 for a Sand Scorcher. They need to understand just what it is about older off-road racing cars, from Supershots to Porsche 959s to Sand Rovers, that captures the imagination of collectors.

It's a combination of factors: Realism, complexity, charming over-engineering, and last but not least, the links these cars represent to a "Golden Era" of not just R/C, but of real-world motorsport.

And before anyone says "The Supershot wasn't real" - it also counts in cases where the buggy was made using older design ideas that were inspired from real world cars, rather being simply technology that was developed and perfected at the R/C level.

Who cares about R/C level technology? It may win races, but beyond that, what scale modelling appeal does it hold? It's technology designed to make a really small car go really fast.

In the beginning, nobody knew how to do that properly, so they started out by miniaturising real world vehicles. And that's what makes the vintage models so collectible to enthusiasts today.

Take away that scale realism, and you take away a lot of the enthusiasm.

It's all very well for Tamiya to release a million WRC rally cars, all based on 1 or 2 chassis with ID numbers that are easy-to-find-parts-for...<yawn>.

Imagine instead, that Tamiya started a new "R/C Realism" series, and their first model was, say, the Lancia Delta S4 Group B rally supercar from 1986, but modelled in a fashion and spirit to the way they made the Porsche 959 - i.e. Realism. Cockpit, suspension, wheels, etc.

I'd be happy if they released 1 new limited model in this fashion, per year, with each car being a totally new design from the ground up. Imagine the collectibility of this kind of thing in few years time. They could become as near-mythic in R/C terms, as the real cars are.

To quote a Group B Rally enthusiast website:

"For instance, the Lancia Delta S4 could accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds on a gravel road. Henri Toivonen drove an S4 around Estoril, the Portuguese Grand Prix circuit, so quickly that he would have qualified sixth for the 1986 Portuguese Grand Prix."

This is a rally car we're talking about. Now that's what I call Golden Era motorsport.

Like it or not, Off-road racing had a hey-day back in the 70s and 80s. From Group B, to Paris Dakar, to plain old California dune buggies. It has never been as popular before or since.

Perhaps the second car in the "Realism R/C" series could be a Paris Dakar Range Rover or Toyota Landcruiser or Lada Niva, covered in sponsor's logos. 3 speeds welcome. See here for a history of the 1978-1985 years of the Paris-Dakar, with pics of nearly every car entered:

http://www.dakardantan.com/

Then a VW based Dakar buggy, in all it's sponsored, fog-lighted, balloon-tyred glory. Maybe with the "spare tyre on top" look that was always so cool on the Tyco Turbo Hopper, but which Tamiya have never done. Something like this:

Or this:

http://www.univ-pau.fr/~scholle/ecosysteme...-img/13-1-2.jpg

Of course, someone will now howl me down with the 101 economic reasons for why all of this is not feasible for Tamiya anymore.

But I can keep dreaming....

cheers,

H.

Jeez Kee -you better watch it or people are gonna start thinking we're the same person[;)][;)]

SO, that's my vote above.... hard bodies, include a new truck model,

with a sprinkle of RALLY (any type will do, ABS of course) and for

PETE'S SAKE [:|] GIVE US A TACOMA!!!

This would be the preferred type and shape:

"hardshelled" of course.

Aren't they all 'hard shelled' ?[;)][;)]

Although I do love the new F350 that's coming, this is really what I

would have preferred personally... just as pictured. I figure the bed

cap would be a perfect place to seal that new MFU they got coming[:D]

Can you guess were this pic was taken?  Clue: the plates are in

their home state... (there might be a small prize involved[:^)])

A good 1/8th nitro buggy that don't look like 4 wheels sticking out of

big circle with wings. OFNA is the biggest offender here.

Yeah, but those are racing buggies, so trophies determine the

apppearance more so than the opinions of those who buy them... just my 2

Oh man that was a close guess!! ( they all look the same don't they!)

It's a little further North than San Bernadino - and they've got 100s

of miles of off road trailing -- a second guess?  Anyone?

Avante! Yes, why not. Im sure its as easy to rere as a thundershot, or top force. On that note, hey top force was rere, so why not an Avante? Wouldnt that be super cool? Or, second choice would be a full option paris dakar 959 with head and tail lights. Heck, lets make it easy, how about an Avante 2001. besides those 2, 3rd would be a ta01 escort cosworth, then a couple different ta02 or ff models like Jaccs accord, Taisan starcard Porsche. I think they need to rerere the Lancia rally as well.

Form before function only goes so far in my opinion. If you have the

fastest car but it looks like a pinto people still wouldn't want to buy

it. RC cars have to look decent for me to consider buying it, even if it

is just for racing. [:D]

I would love to see a descent Lancia Stratos shell and a proper rally chassis underneath. ok, does not look like Tamiya will ever come out with something better than existing TB01, but please make a nice TB01 kit with bearings included and a highly detailed lexan Stratos shell (and of course some nice dark yellow wheels). Mr. Tamiya, if you don't know how to do, have a look at ChrisB's showroom:

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...d=38026&id=3382

Oh, btw, Mr. Tamiya, if you are into rally cars, could you please make a new Lancia 037 with proper rally chassis and a new lexan body, which does not have the massive overhang in the front like the ABS body?

I'd like to see Tamiya make a nod to where it started out in RC - using their highly detailed static model bodies on a radio-controllable chassis. Ok,  not back to chassis so basic as the 934, but by the same token, I don't need a car to win races with. There are plenty of other options available for that.

I'd like to see a chassis with realistic suspension and drive elements. I don't really care if the handling is bad.  I'd like these parts to be mostly made from metal.

I'd like to see a body made from hard plastic, with lots of detail, chrome, and an interior.

I don't care for most modern car design. Bland bland bland. Aerodynamics and economics have robbed most modern cars of all character.  I'm interested in cars - on-road, off-road, trucks, tanks and rigs, but what I'd really like to see are some replicas of  classic sports cars. I know that Kyosho had their "Nostalgic" series, but these were issued with lexan bodies which just doesn't do it for me. What I'd really like to see is this:  A Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing.
