A friend of the family visited us a couple of weeks ago, he saw my collection of rc cars and said he had some stuff in his garage I could have for free if I wanted it. I now have two balsa nitro planes, one balsa kattamaran, a very cool 4 ch metal futaba transmitter and what I think is a Kyosho Land Jump in peaces. The star of the lot i reckon to be this:

IMG_2466.jpg

I guess it would fit the Land Jump series of cars, but I am not shure? It's says 1977, does it meen that the body was made then ore is it the Parma company that started then? It is cutted, not to pretty, but not to much so this can absolutly be a shelfer. It looks like they have mixed sement ore somthing, close to it in the garage, and it has smal grey dots. The can be removed with hot water and nail schratching. What would the value of somthing like this be? Any ideas would be much apriciated. If interested in buying it, let me know.

Thanks

What are the dimensions??  I'd be interested.... well, I might

be.. What is the wheelbase?  How wide at the wheel arches? (Front

and back )

I have a Parma body the looks similar to this.. Chaeck it out:

be139fa8.jpgc95b7f1b.jpg

(this one is a '78)

I think this body is actually meant for the 1/8 nitro IC cars of the

seventies, (with a roughly 12 inch / 305mm wheelbase) but whadda I

know? -Want to trade?

Hi mate, thats a nice body you gott there! This is very rough, but the wheelbase seems to be about the same? The picture I made was realy small...

Total lenght: 56 cm

Wheelbase: 30 cm

Front axel wide: 25 cm

Rear axel wide: 26 cm

Front wheel arch: 8,5 cm

Rear wheel arch: 9,5 cm

Thanks Anders, that's pretty much the same dimensions I've got with the

Beemer  shell.  But, you are right though, I think the BMW is

i a little better shape -- no trimming yet.

Yours looks pretty good over all - what are you going to do with

it?  Wouldn't it look awesome on something like the Dark Impact??

J ust a thought....

It is a great tought Steve. I was pretty shure I was going to sell it before you sugested that, he he. Gonna be quite difficult to find some good scale looking tires of that size I guess.

I was posting here to find out more about the body and what it could be worth? May I ask what you paid for yours?

Anders - it looks to me like it might fit the Kyosho Landmax GP 2 chassis (eighth scale nitro) - the dimensions are very close according to the Kyosho site:

Landmax option parts (includes a Stratos shell)

The proportions of your shell look quite realistic, maybe there is some way of fitting the Kyosho wheels and tyres from the Stratos bodyset - they look pretty realistic and should be the right size. Don't know if its a coincidence, but most Stratos shells / models tend to be based on the 1977 Monte Carlo rally winning Alitalia liveried cars - perhaps the 1977 refers to that? Likewise I wonder if the 1978 on OCDS 320 tourer refers to the year the car it is based on was winning championships, 1978 would be about right from the info I have on my CArson shell of the same design.

Anyhow, some really nice shells there. Personally I don't think they would be hugely valuable unless mint and with decals so I say get 'em painted up nicely and put them to good use. The Stratos shells look fantastic when painted up and its a really great looking car imho.

Anders-

I think the wheels that come with the Dark Imp would be a good size for

that shell... Otherwise, you could use some TG10 Mini Cooper wheels

(1/8 scale) and TGX rally block tires... Might look kinda

cool!!   The added benefit is that the TG10 wheel have a VERY

wide offset - maybe enough to fill those fenders?

Chris-

I knew a pic of the 320 shell would draw a coment from you[:)] - isn't it

fantastic!?! Yeah, I know, it not worth much without proper packaging,

but believe me when I say that I haven't seen another one of these in a VERY

long time -- in any condition.  My plan was to fit it to a bigger

2WD buggy, but I never really found the time, so, here it still sits,

untouched...

The dates on the bodies refer to the year the moulds were made.

The bodies will be a perfect fit on 1/8th on road chassis, but I

suspect the Lancia would be better on an off road car. 1/8th off

roaders are too big, 1/8th off roaders have a 325mm wheelbase,

including the Kyosho landmax referred to by Chris. The perfect electic

chassis for it would be an HPI Super RS4 as that has a 300mm wheelbase.

Alternatively if you stretch the chassis of an electric buggy the width

should be right for it.

Hehe - I don't like to disappoint Steve, and can never resist a thread with great pics like these [:)]. That bimmer shell has some nice detail on it too.

Not sure if its of any interest to either of you, but I am thinking of producing some vector based artwork for both my late 70's 320 touring car shell (like yours Steve) - it will be the Warsteiner gold / black colour scheme. I am also looking to do a set of decals for the blue 1979 Lancia Stratos that won the Monte Carlo rally.

Note this will just be the computer files and not decal sheets as such, but once they are done I am happy to send you the files in case they are of any use. Being vector based you should be able to scale them up to 1/8 size without losing any detail.

I'm not saying these will be done anytime soon, but I plan to work on them over the next few months in my spare time. Due to cost restrictions I think I will try printing them on special decal paper for injets to see how it comes out - the white coloured decal paper should produce acceptable results. They won't be repo quality, but hey its more of a learning experience and if they turn out well there is always the option of getting the artwork printed professionally [;)].

Apologies for drifting off topic a little, but thought it might be of interest.

Cheers,

Chris

Yes, drifting off topic a little - sorry about this Focus1 -- but all

this has my wheels  TURNING!!(the ones in my head anyhow[8-|])

The more I look at buggies like the the D.I. and the Top Forcce, I see

great potential for some nice rally cars, or in the case of the 320 --

just a fun runner!

Yes - absolutely I'd be intested in some vectored 320 livery - I have

thought about this for a long time but always figured it was more

effort than I would ever muster.  Indeeed, vectored livery woulld

be half of the work involved.. Please let me know if you are serious!

-Steve

No, no. Don't be sorry. It's drifting in the direction I want it to. I found out that it is not worth that much, and that is very fine. My thought was that if it was extremly rare and valubel, it was better that it went to a real professional collector, than for me to use it. Now I know better and are looking at chassis that maybe can be fitted. The Lancia Stratos originaly was RW drive right? If I exstended the chassis plate of my B4 buggy, and put on some extending wheel adapters. And offcourse some different wheels, baybe som 1/8 Mini wheels would do the trick, as you suggested Steve. If I make it, it's gonna be a superb runner! My wheels are turning to!

And Chris B, your decals sound very interesting indeed. You don't happend to have a link ore some pictures of real Lancia Stratos painted blue?

You said, OCD, that you where counting on Chris B to coment when you posting pictures of your body. While I always hoping that TerrySC will coment when I post things like this because he always nows a thing ore two about everything that is RC car related. Al of you, thanks a lot for the input. I will keep you updated on this project.

Well, as I say its going to be a while before I get a set of vector based decals done, but I need them to complete my second Stratos shell and also my BMW tourer so there is a big incentive there [:D].

I suspect I will concentrate on the sponsor decals for each car and probably not worry about the plain black striping on the Warsteiner BMW - thats probably better done with careful masking and paint for a runner in my experience.

The following are a few pics of the colour scheme used on the Chardonnet sponsored Stratos driven by Darniche to victory in the 1979 Monte Carlo rally (not all pics are of the '79 winning car, but the colour scheme stayed very similar on the car whilst it was competing):

Oh No![:o]

I knew someone would pose this question... what to do!?!?

Well, to tell the truth Jay, I'm quite attached to this shell for two reasons:

  1. I absolutely love 320s - particularly the IMSA/DRM/Group 5 types[:)]
  2. I'm into bigger scale items (bigger than 1/10)  and this is a pretty accurate 1/8

Of course this body would really fit into your collection much better

than mine (obviously[:$]) and would get the proper respect it deserves.

A little history on this body shell if anyone's interested:

I found this on eBay a couple of years ago, horribly described,

(something like 'BMW RC body' or similar[:^)])  and was part of a

huge number of items from the estate of the President/founder of the North American BMW Owners

Club.  Apparently he collected everything BMW and never

did athing with it.  Just amassed it in some storage space (must

have been a temp controlled one, because this body hasn't yellowed even

the slightest) and left it as is until he unexpectedly had a heart

attack (who ever expects one?)

It really was a nice collection, and it's a shame that the

fella that was auctioning all of it off really knew little about BMW,

and about as much about automobilia in general. I got a good deal, some

of his stuff went for almost nothing.  (Something to think about when considering the collections of us here on TC?)

So in the end, I know that it's kinda wrong to use this

shell as a runner, but without any decent 1/8 decals, I never really

knew what to do with it.  My plan was to do this one:

ac990217.jpg353943c5.jpg

21af1f1a.jpg

I think a lot of the detail can be achieved with careful masking- which

actually I very much enjoy doing. Infact, a lot of the designs I've

found can be done with mostly masking:

BMW M-Sport Gallery

So you can see why I'm so pleased about the opportunity of getting some

vectored decals -- But I dunno, what are your plans for it, Jay?

Posted

Wow - great pics Steve, and I know it may sound strange to some but I also love the satisfaction of masking up a complex paintjob, painting it and seeing the final colour scheme take shape - it can take ages, but very rewarding when complete.

If you get it right it just looks so much better than any decal ever could, and its also likely to last far better.

Cheers,

Chris

No problem Jay -

I'm headed over to SF for a couple of hours, so I'll get back to you when I return...

First off, with a name like mrlexan, you know that I would take the utmost care of it.

Second, this is a 4 part equation of watch I am still looking for one of the missing variables to complete the equation (HINT, HINT, HINT!!!!).

Now every equation has a solution/answer (we all know what that is in this case):

Variable #1:

Variable #2:

Variable #3

And finally, If I could only figure out what the missing variable is????? Hmmmmmm? Any ideas?

Thanks for the nice pictures Cris B! I found a pair yellow spoked reare wheels for my b4, but I am not shure if I will go for this chassis yet. OCD, I am pretty shure that BMW collector would have loved to see that body beeing painted and fitted to look like that car on the pictures! Let me know if you find a good fitting chassis.

Focus1:

Glad to hear you've made some progress with your project Anders --

please keep us up on the progress!  I think you'll have a

entertaining, if not attractive backyard rally basher.  (Good call

on the blue colour as well - nice to see something other than the

Alitalia scheme :) )

JAY:

Well, I am almost speechless.

I've always loved the First Nat 'on white' scheme, especially that of

the 3 series.  Since I've gotten this body (years ago) I have been

steadily seaching for the decals similar to what you've got

there.  You must be 'Mr. Decal' as well?!? [:D]  I see that

one set comes from a 2002 !? In 1/8?  Incredible.[:|]

So, yes, all the variables are there, with an exception... Who will finish this body?

In light of your collection, I'm inclined to just give it to you, gratis, but I feel like I'm missing out on something I really love - get what I'm sayin'?  What are you feeling?

-Steve

mrlexananddecals, just does not work... LOL! But, yes I do, have an extensive collection of vintage decals. I am always on the look out...... just ask Sealed City/Gixer (he thinks I am nuts.... but, I am). I totally get what you are saying... and I would not blame you if you told me to "pack sand".... I would if I were you, well I would not say pack sand. Just kidding. We should take this off line/thread..... you on any IM?

Jay

Posted

NO - no IM for me unless you want to use the  room on the TC home-page?[8-)]

If you want, send me a personal email and I can produce a phone number for

you, if you're cool with that.  Usually thinking faster than I can

type[;)]

Either way, please do hit me up.  I'm pretty sure we can arrive at something that everyone is pleased with...
