I have just recieved my brand new Gecko 60/40 chassis.

Chuffed to bits with the look of it.

Pulled the axels off my clod, and am wondering which way other people run there 60/40 chassis, is it best to 60 front or 60 rear does it make any difference ?

Also can the stock shell be used or will it limit the articulation, i'd like to know this before i go n drill new mounting holes in the shell, mind im not 100% poss that i am going to use the clod shell because i have another idea floating about in my tiny little brain.

Cheers in advance to anyone who bothers to answer.

All the ones i've seen the 60 goes at the rear for stabillity reasons.

I'd test fit the clod shell 1st if not happy then no prob at least it'll still be in one piece.

Cheers for that Steve,

I had thought of 60 rear for stability and i will try and place the clod shell on without any drilling first just to be on the safe side.

Do you know which size shells are usually used on the crawlers or is it almost any with mods made ?

To see articulation on a Gecko II (50:50) chassis with the original clod body, check out Hillman666's photo's of my Gecko at Kidderminster this year:

Hope that helps.

I do put a lexan one on if I need real articulation, but this works fine for crawling over rocks and fair size boulders at my local beach!

Or for a real laugh, take a peek at the bodyshell I use for max articulation (and ran at Kidder 2005!):

p.s.  Forgot to say, the Clod bodyshell is much heavier, and make the car more prone to topple over on angles!

I see what you mean about the clod body being top heavy, i think its going to be a lexan shell then.

Ohh yea and i love the pics of ya max articulation body, thats realy mad.

Well said Steve.

Having the 60% at the back aims the chassis weight towards the front for a bit more grip etc.

I would also sugest making sure the round things (wheels) are on the ground [:P]

Dont forget to post pics of the build [;)]

There you go i have added some links to the pics i have just added to photobucket for you lot to see.

As you can see im a long long way off finishing and to be honest it may be a while before i can do much more to it.

I have a set of wheels with Jumbo Swamp Dawgs (cut down a bit) which i would like to use, they have a 14mm hex fitting so i need to find some adapters preferably ones that widen the track slightly-:

If you have any adapters going spare please feel free to let me know.

Other bits i will be needing are -:

55turn motors / esc to cope with 2 motors / hi-torque servo's n savers / servo mounts n links / 3 or 4 channel radio n reciever (not sure what frequency to use yet 27 - 35 - 40)

Then i will have to decide on which shell to dress it in.

Sorry this reply is long winded but there u go nowts ever as simple as you think.

  Cheers for reading

27MHz or 40MHz are good, but 35MHz are reserved only for airbound vehicles (helicopters / planes).

4 Channel is best as you can easily control front and rear steer seperately.

Hi Steve,

I wasn't sure about the 35mhz but will keep away from that then.

I had an idea of creating a controller that has two sticks on the one side so they could be used together or independantly for the steering but havent got a clue where to start with electrics, even after seeing one on the net that someone had started.

So i'll be going for a  4ch radio set-up.

It look like i'll be browsing ebay a lot to see what bits n bobs appear.

Will keep adding to this thread as and when i get bits for the build.

  Cheers

  Brucie.

p.s. Thanks to all who have read and given there advice.

Cheers neo,

The electrics site of things is my weakness even though i have a fair idea of what i need.

To be honest i just decided to get the mechanical side of the build on its way then see what i needed as i went on.

I am under no illision that this type of project will be no plain and simple build like my other cars, but thats the fun of the build for me, its more a case of i had the idea of a rock crawler well before i even got into the r/c scene and once i had a few cars up n running i just decided to go for it n have a bash, and this is the result.

I will probably be needing loads of advice from you lads as the project progresses for which i thank you in advance.

Anyone have suggestions for cheap but effective esc / servo's / savers and any other electrical bits n bobs i might need ?

Well its time i went off and had a bit of a brows about in the sale/trade room and ebay to see what other bits n bobs i can find that i need.

Cheers
