At last - i have a 'proper job' in laser optics sales [*-)] (thats an achievement here -coz of work permits)  so watch this space.... [A]  a few more for the collection i feel - after i got flat to put em in tho [6]

By the way how feasable is it to build a RR or SS from parts [:S] [;)]

He..he..certainly feasible.  Not easy though unless you have a

nearly complete chassis or tons of money.  I have two RR's/ four

chassis.  The red one was 90% complete (when bought), the blue one

is about 75% (needs a proper roof) and better radio tray.  4

chassis=two Rough Riders.[:)]  It is possible...I think I've spent

around $800 (I'm guessing here).  The result is one complete RR and one

almost there.  I also have plenty of spare chassis/suspension parts.

This is important (to me) as the blue RR will be run and why I didn't

buy a new-built.

Best,

EEK is right, you'll spends tons of money just putting together one form new parts.  Consider that the SRB is over 20 years old so most of the parts bring in a pretty penny. Since the Rough Rider isn't as coveted as the Sand Scorcher it would be cheaper to buy a NIB for building.

Idle musing here.

I wish we could tell in advance which cars are going to be the Sand

Scorchers of the 2050's. Then we wouldn't need to bother with pension

schemes and suchlike!

Grats on the new job, and good luck!

disagree... [:P]

If you had a crystal ball AND a decent calculator, you'll soon work out that buying vintage 1982 Tamiyas for "investment" at retail prices back in those days isn't such a great investment over 25yrs+ after all.

You might have invested that same $$ in Microsoft, Dell or Apple shares; or maybe even bought a spare Apple I kit computer instead. (mind boggles as to what a NIB Apple I *kit* would fetch today... ain't any been sold yet!)

Agree with Willy there. Just leaving the money in a standard savings

account for the past 25 years would earn you more than buying SRBs as

an investment back then. Also no one was buying them as investments

back then so there are very few NIB around these days. Today much like

anything collectable there are loads of people who are buying them as

investments for the future who will be sadly disappointed to discover

the market flooded with "extremely rare vintage" kits.

Yeah, but investing in boring stuff is, well, boring ;)

Although, I agree, lending Bill Gates $1000 in exchange for 1% of all MS' future profits would probably have been a wise move.

Another good point about current collectors. Thinking about it, now

everything is so mass-produced that it's pretty unlikely for this kind

of thing to happen again anyway.

Agree with above posters, when deducting inflation, you can see that RCs are a bad monetairy investment (but a superb fun investment [:D]) and it will only get worse due to many "collectors" and ebay now.

Since used Tamiya parts in ebay are not so expensive as they used to be, not so bad as before, but still I think its cheaper and wiser to get a complete car, the better the condition, the cheaper in the long run as parts are more expensive and you have multiple shipping costs.

Buy a very good condition runner on eBay unless you want a mint one. I have $700 into mine, but lucky I got mine for $30 USD shipped and I sold most of the Hop Up parts for $400 as I have put $700.00 USD into getting it to look like it is now! But still less than $2500 USD for a NIB one. I still have about $300 USD more to go to get the final parts I need. Here are pictures of mine through its process of evolution!

Yeah, I was going to originally make it all stock, but then ideas started floating in the brain after I started to restore, and now you see it isn't quite stock, but not much done to it but stock style. Just front cage paint job and rims. Rest is stock parts.

It was a good deal. I thank the big man everyday for that deal and my Bruiser. [:P]

That sucks! I've just moved to South-West Scotland to be closer to my son (long story) and am trying to find work. Not much around. Great beaches and woodland though for my Ford Ranger!![H]
