You would think that if so many want a re-issue it would make tamiya alot of dosh, if they did. I`d buy 2 for sure :)

Looks like I`ll be off to ebay looking for a project, Unless anyone here has got anything interesting to sell?

Thanks for the info anyway,

cheers

Know you have to realize that when the TC Club had the softwear change over that I lost several hundred posts.[;)]..So I am responding to most anything to fill that gap...Rumor has it that the SS will return in 07 as a three speed. Test market will be in Oz..The real Oz with the yellow brick road..NOT Oztrailia..[:D]  regards Jerry

Jim123,

NO. They won't re-release the Sand Scorcher. There's a LARGE number of reasons why, and here they are for the FIRST TIME EVER on TamiyaClub!

Nobody would buy it if they re-released it anyway.... you're all watching for Tamiya to release it because you all secretly want the company to fail... so they won't release a re-release Striker.

Tamiya did the research and found that nobody of any consequence likes VWs.... except for Hitler... and we all know what happened to him (Living his life out in Argentina, where's there's NO Tamiya!).

Tamiya did the numbers on what they had to do, and realised that a SuperChamp would sucker all the collectors in better, without the need to re-release the ugly radio boxes..... so Tamiya can secretly make considerable amounts from selling new radio boxes via fake eBay account names - and Tamiya have 3 warehouses in Japan full of nothing but radio boxes.

Nobody likes VWs.... didn't you get that earlier?

Tamiya worked out that they would be better off making a re-release that could use all recently-released motors.... so they shelved the SS in favour of the Porsche 959 1:12 chassis. In a strange twist, though, they will release this chassis with a Skoda 130RS body instead, to show it as a REAL rally car with significant heritage.

They thought that the SS would be too heavy because of the significant metal parts.... and they were right. Only crusty old collectors believe differently...

Tamiya decided not to bother as a consortium led by ex-CRP and Parma employees released the news that they were releasing complete Sand Scorcher kits complete with all the hopups necessary to keep them competitive with the latest release RC cars... Tamiya Frogs and Hornets.

Apparently Schumacher were going to be in a partnership with Tamiya to produce the Sand Scorcher TRF.... but they had to shelve it and stop development as they realised that they needed to focus their time and development resources on shelving the Cat4000 to produce more nitro stunt trucks, which we all know everyone wants. Tamiya have countered by producing upgrade kits for the latest Schumacher cars, comprising mostly of suspension arms made of lead, and replacements for the Schumacher plastic parts made entirely of iron.

A small company, based in Tiawan, has produced a kit called the "Sand Scratcher".... it looks like a Tamiya Sand Scorcher, but it's made up entirely of copies of TL-01 parts.... you should see how they do the VW body! (Which, apparently, nobody likes...)

The Monster Beetle was far better in performance, looks, and anti-Hitlerability... thus it will be rereleased instead.... twice...

Tamiya were going to do the re-release, but Kyosho heard about it and, as they had released the Mantis chassis to the public that bought it, decided that they had copyright on selling crappy. A long lawsuit ensued, with Mad Bull, Striker, FWD Peugeot 205, Raider, Raider Pro, Juggernaut,  Raider Pro ARR, all mentioned. In the end, the lawyers all won new houses and college for their respective great-great-great grandchildren, and Tamiya and Kyosho gave up.

Last time I looked, badword was still hot and bothered.......

Ask me by personal message.... but be warned, if I tell you, I may at a later date have to kill you....

AND THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE.... after the crash of '87, Tamiya sold the molds, plans, specs, everything to do with the Sand Scorcher, in order to save the company so they could go on and produce the Tamiya Magnum Opus, the Tamiya QuickDrive Manta Ray. *NOTE: Many people believe that the 1:10 Manta Ray came first.... no no no. The QD came first..... then a guy who worked in the mail room saw the QD and said it would make a good 1:1.... so he somehow got the company going producing it. Unfortunately he didn't notice that he had regrettably added an extra '0' after the second '1', and it became a 1:10... can you imagine a Tamiya Manta Ray 1:1 road car????????? There is a rumour that the plans and molds changed hands a number of times, and are now owned by Netsmith himself, just waiting for you all to salivate enough, then he'll take all the cash he's earned from running TamiyaClub (not inconsiderable millions, strange from 1000 or so 15-pound-a-piece members, maybe he 'invested it' in pools) and do a run of Scorchers. You all think those boxes of SS's that he released pictures of a while back were mockups? He apologised.... and you all believed him so quickly????

Time will tell.... maybe I'm a beer-fed nutter, maybe I'm worthy of moderator status.... who knows..... we'll all see soon.

Hiya Jim, and let me welcome you to us all here on TC !  It's always an absolute pleasure to hear the views from fellow Vintage Tamiya enthusiasts.

Unfortunately although Tamiya have the ability to re-release the Sand Scorcher, they probably won't because of the very very small market for them (well, as a lot of fellow friends here on TC keep reminding me, in any case).

Personally I think there *IS* a healthy and large market for them [noone will ever persuade me otherwise I'm a stubborn old b*gger] (large as in I reckon that they would sell about 3,000 of them worldwide within say 6 months), and I would buy several of them.

Collectors hate the re-releases as they look at their original models in glass cases, jealously covert them, and never run them for fear of getting a spot of dirt on them, they have invested lots of money in them and see them as an investment. Enthusiasts love to buy the re-re's in great numbers and run them with pleasure over all terrain and love the interesting differences in handling between the cars, they buy them because they ENJOY building and USING them. I am FIRMLY in the latter category. This is all a generalisation I know, but that's the way I see it.

If it were up to me I would love to be able to give a free re-release Scorcher to anyone who loves to run them here on TC. Unfortunately I am poor and cannot ever afford an original NIB on my income.

Bring on the Scorcher re-release, it would be my DREAM RE-RE!! LOVELY!!

I want to see it re-released EXACTLY as per the original. I am absolutely NUTS about scale R/C models and realistic looking beautiful buggies.

Usual disclaimer : the above are just my personal opinions LOL.

Cheers,

Alistair G.

So basically are you're saying that if someone doesn't run their buggy then they aren't a proper enthusiast only a speculative investor ?

If so then I don't agree, I have several Scorchers, some are mint, some are not, I don't intend to run the mint ones, what's the point in risking damage to them when I can run the ones that are already scratched / chipped / etc.

I don't see a Sand Scorcher as a good investment at all, I very much doubt if I sold mine I'd get back anything like the amount of money that I've spent on them.

People can appreciate vintage Tamiyas in different ways, you do it by running them others do it by putting them on display, neither way is better or worse than the other, the idea that you HAVE to run them to be a "real" enthusiast is codswallop.

As far as a reissue Scorcher goes... bring it on, sure it would devalue my Scorchers but as I never intend to sell them anyway, I don't really care.

Hey Incredible_serious, why the hostility toward VW's and Tamiya. Dude, if you hate Tamiya so much, maybe you should just find a new club to belong to. We here at Tamiya do not tolerate even an inkling of hostility, whether towards another member or the cars themselves, so please, take your mean spiritedness elsewhere. Mods, I hope you dont let Serious get this one by without some repercussions......what did our little cars do to deserve this pointed attack?

Might I suggest (as someone above

indeed many theories and this is a very regularly discussed topic.

O.K. appologies to any who I may have offended by my "collectors" comments above, it's just my personal reaction to what happens when I hear that some TC members "Don't want the Scorcher to be re-released since it would de-value the value of the originals in their collection" at least that's what I was told repeatedly by these people LOL!

To be fair I did warn you with a disclaimer that these were my own personal opinions but I didn't give the reason that they were caused by and now I have in my above paragraph.

Also I mentioned no names so I was not trying to make any personal attacks.

Please forgive me, it's just the frustration that I feel whenever I hear questions about a re-release of the Scorcher since it's a buggy that is more to do with my emotions and my heartstrings rather than any coherent logical arguments 8-)

Also I am not very good with words, I am not as eloquent at saying stuff compared to Hibernaculum who is practically Shakespeare in Vintage R/C LOL.

Finally also I would point out that I was one of the few people who welcomed the guy to the club and who actually tried to answer the guy's question (if in my own flawed way).

Jeez gimme a break I'm only frustrated at having no SS re-re LOL.

No problems, it doesnt really offend me (the collectors comment). Just

that the debate has been gone over nearly as much as the re re thing !!

:)

I am all for the re re's as well......could care less about what it

does to the values of the originals to be honest - as the originals

will always be that - the originals. Fantastic to have a source of

parts now for our frogs, hornts etc.......

there has been no harm done.

of course a re-release nwould be great for a small market, but probably

won't happen. I imagine if it did the chassis would change however much

,like WildWilly to Wwilly2000.

We can dream right? If so I'd like it just like the original I had and now miss.

Wouldn't you just like to know matey... ;-)

Can't help it if some of my really subtle (and some not so subtle) jabs went over your head..... our Nation's Capitol is not known for it's logical thinking and quick uptake ;-)

Hey, I was really proud of some of the drivel I churned out.... and I reckon that there's a couple there that only a few people actually got the full meaning of.

Besides, it's better than talking seriously about this particular topic...

LOL - isnt it funny when people make rediculous, ill informed comments like that? It isnt the Nations Capital that is to blame - it is the mongs that fly in - make the decision then fly out again to their homes in other areas of the country.....[:D][:P][;)][:P][;)][+o(]

But hey - this really is not staying on topic and we are digressing. There is little if any relevance to the original question here. Make the posts on topic - or we should just not bother. This has been just as much my fault as any one elses.

Just a quickie, does it list on a forum post when it's been moderated, like it does if it's been edited? Just a little confused, as in the above, Darryn calls my comments rediculous (sic) and ill-informed, but in the copy sent to me by e-mail because I'm watching the topic, it actually says 'uneducated'....

Just a strange one that didn't seem right...

After many years I'm finally breaking my silence.

The SS has already been reissued!!!!!!!! It was heavily disguised because 'nobody likes vws' and fiendishly resembled a monster truck which people liked.

Sand Scorcer re issue

I believe this is as close as we will ever get on this one.

Darryn, Alex (Incrdible_Serious) mentioned in another thread, that his drink of choice is actually wombat urine, with a pinch of sugar- shaken, not stirred. Not sure how you get the liquid, but I think Alex knows exactly what to do.
