Errrhhh does it really matter or not if the TB-02 is a water down version of the EVO-3? At the end what really matters is to have a good ESC, suitable motor, gear ratio according to track, correct chassis setup and of course good driving skill.

I been to the local track and have seen superior chassis being smacked silly by lesser chassis due to the experience of the driver........[:P]

Yes, but both are still mammals![;)]

(Just a little joke there, Willy, I understand the EVO 3 is in a different league than the TB-02, and way far from the TB-01)

Download the parts lists for the TB-02 and TB-01.

Print them, pull out you pink marker pen and play find the evo 3 parts. The TB-02 has 4 and many more has hop-ups and the TB-01 has 0, ZERO, ZIP, NIL, get it?

Its more correct to say that the TB-02 is a sport version of the EVO 3, than the EVO 3 a hopped up version of the TB-02, since the TB-02 is a year newer. READ the tamiyausa article, PROPERLY!

Hey Gates, I'm running the stock motor that came with the TB-02 at 25/55. How fast would you estimate that it goes? I've got a 17t Venom Fireball in my truck that I'm pretty unhappy with, but would buy a 13t or lower if it helps me go wicked fast. There's a 43k rpm otor that I've seen and geared at 25/55 I estimate that it'll hit 45+mph, but wanted to get your opinion on whether the 13t is too fast to handle or if you crave more speed.

Sorry for not replying quickly, I have been away courseworking lately [V] Im not sure on the speed, but its helluva fast, The car seems to have no problems at all taking such a fast motor, but I only go full on for the straights, and it obviously takes a long time to stop, as I found out driving on a polished dance floor [xx(]

The car has real power, turns the wheels and apply full power from standing, you will drift at least if you dont donut, and reverse 180's and powersliding, dont seem to be a problem, with the car moving if you really want to push it for fun. The car holds well, I tried cornering at full pelt, on a rough surface, powerslid, but no roll and great control. The car seems to really stik to the ground with the staibiliser kit. The motor, is fast, insanely fast, but insanely fun and certainly controlable. My advise, GO FOR IT, leave them nitro's standing!!!!

sorry about the tone,

but if you call a sarcastic comment like :

I give up.....I guess you know more than Tamiya.

as him/you admitting he/you was wrong? well then..... who knows

You are right, I read it fastly as "you know more about Tamiya then me" which didn't look sarcastic to me, especially with the [V] after it, so I apologise and corrected my statement, we mods are also just humans [8)]

I have a tb02 and it is near silent running and handles well, with the standard gearing out of the box with my 12x3 team orion obital motor it is slower than my old tl01. The ball diffs are very smooth but cheap and nasty due to plastic instead of metal output cups also i think the metal motor mount should have been included Heatsink for the motor is poor in my opinion as it has no holes for ventilation of the motor, it blocks some of the vent holes in my motor. As for which is best i would assume the ta04 is due to it being a proper racing chassis compared to the tb02 being the budget racing chassis .im not into racing mines just for fun i have read that the tb02 can wear gears or or plastic cups easily.[:)]

Yes the TA04 is a dedicated onraod 4WD GT class car. Where the TB series are all shaft driven and aimed more at the rally end of the classes. I know the EVO's are on road cars but they are what there called, an evolution from the TB01 and TB02 at the end of the day, no matter what anyone says. But please people lets get back on topic here, the topic was of course which is better. Well at the end of the day it all depends on what your using it for. If it is racing then the TA04 is probably the better bet cheaper to upgrade to a competetive level, but if its offroad of just a fun car, your better with the TB01 or TB02. Don't want any stripped belts with small stones do you.

We are all here just to have fun and talk about R/C cars, it seems more and more people want to argue rather than help these days, so differences aside, back on topic, please.

Thanks

James

Thanks for the info. I do have mine geared up to 25/55 instead of the standard 16/61 or 19/58 (I forget) that it came with. I also have a different and bigger heat sink that I can use. I'll look into replacing the plastic parts you mentioned with the metal too. I want this baby to be able to take off if I were to glue wings to the doors!!! [xx(] heh heh heh heh [}:)]

I couldn't agree more with your last sentence, James!!!

One question though, even running on the pavement at home, my TB-02 picks up A LOT of road debris. I imagine i'd have to find a way to seal up the holes beneath the battery chamber and the hole beneath the motor before I would even dare take it into the dirt! The ground clearance is pretty low too, I imagine I'd have to raise the suspension to it's highest level also, right?

Yeah, high ride heaight. try an offcut of polycarbonate from an old bodyshell to cover the hole on the bottom , or a large piece of sponge under the motor and the motor and top and then reattach the motor to the mount. Prob a good idea to get an underbody from a TB01 car, would be very good also.

Thanks

James
