I need clarification if is is appropriate to use a word that rhymes

with "mugger" which in British I believe has to do with, ahem,

sodomy.  In the United States. however it is a slang term often used

affectionately to describe a small child, pet or thing.

When I post on the forum it gets ***** out, but I have it in my

showroom description.  If inappropriate I will remove it.  Is

this ok?

Best,

If you think it may cause offence, don`t use it.There are plenty of other discriptive words that are not offencive in any way,i would use one of them.Just my opinion.

The b-word was used in a TV ad for Toyota cars here in NZ. In fact it was the only word spoken in the ad (about 6 times). It was and still is known as the "******" ad. Caused heaps of discussion in the media.

Hmmm...interesting.  Haven't heard any complaints to date.

Hope Netsmithuk or a moderator can advise.  (The word is

perfect..in my opinion).

Bluefoot,

I just saw your military green King Hauler/trailer combo.  That's

got to be one of the nicest of any model on this site!  Well done

(clapping).[:)]

Quite a difficult one this, as it really depends on the construct of the sentence containing the word as to whether it could be offensive; "The little ** wouldn't behave" would be less offensive than "** me!" for example, as the first one is using the word descriptively, the second is using it in an expletive phrase which some people might be offended by.

Personally I don't think it's an offensive word, but I'd say find a different word or way to describe what you are saying; with a multi-national, multi-cultural, multi-age audience with different levels of sensitivity it's normally best to go for descriptive phrase which won't cause offence to anyone. So if it's a word which is ***d out in the forum software, I'd take that as a rule to say it shouldn't be used anywhere on the site.

It's one of those words which has sort of lost it's offensiveness over the last few years - and it is used in the same context in the UK - ie, if something was being 'a pain' like an engine not starting, for instance, you would call it a b*****, or when your iPod fails to boot anymore it would be b*****ed.

Like all these things though - I'd be cross if my kids were using it - especially if they called me one. [:)]

I'm English, Male,29 & 6'+ and the word does not offend me (in-fact I use it), but if I was to use it in-front of my Mother who is in her 60's and I don’t even thing 5' she would still give me the backside of her hand sharp’ish.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I also have to agree with Gruntfuggly I don’t think I would like it if my Nice or god son was to use the word.

Bluefoot I remember that add, it was in my opinion outstanding, I think that’s wher my friends & I started using the word from, but we do it with an old fashion English accent.

I've heard it in the Simpsons and Futurama, and they get shown on UK TV around 6:00 so it can't be that offensive anymore, otherwise the monarchy would have crumbled and the country would have sunk.

As a swear word, I think it's been replaced by a new import, 4 letters further into the alphabet, but the suffixes to the main exclamation work just as well with either word.

Did you know the worst of all worst words ever was first said on British TV by a Hippy?

As for would it be offensive; maybe to some people, but certainly not to me, but like Twisty says, err on the side of caution and you can't go far wrong.

I'm sure the mod chappies here take regional dialect/usage into account before having you taken outside for a good kicking [:D]

Its easier all around not to use it - there are lots of other alternatives that do the same job. I agree its not the most offensive in the world (and may have even used it once or twice myself) but it one of those, "thin end of the wedge things" - we let this go, someone brings up another word, we debate that, someone brings up another and so on and so on and so on. The mods then spend their life  debating whats acceptable and whats not. And for what? It doesn't advance the club any.

We won't kick anyone off the club for using it unless we feel the context is rude or aggressive but equally I won't remove it form the filter either.

In general, I'd say if ever anyone is typing a post or anything on the forum and they find themselves stopping for 1 second to think "I wonder if this word is acceptable", then the very fact you've considered it might not be is probably enough reason to use a different word. There are lots of other words out there that can be used and don't run any risk of offence at all, so whats the harm in using them and saving us all some hassle?

Cheers

Seems some of the words considered offensive in the UK and else where are not the same as here in the US.

Glad I read this post or I would have been terribly confused as to what that "B" word was and why it got bleeped.  Then I would have been a little "bugged"  (confused)

And to quote up further in this post, most little kids in this country are.... "bugs".... so to speak.

But I do appreciate how this site does keep things clean, which means the main focus is and has always been, the hobby.

If ,however, you want to be offended, then buy a Kyosho. That that word offends me :D

Ok, there seems to be a general consensus.  I actually didn't

realize the significance until after multiple efforts trying to post

it, I kept getting this ******.  What the heck?  (then dim

light turns on).  Oh, I think I get it.[:o]

I'll change it, after all I guess were not the Simpsons and can't get away with what they can right?.......(Doh!)[:D]
