Would anyone like an option for a Project Parts Log (photos, descriptions, etc)

I'm not sure if anyone else has requested this in the past, but I wanted to get members feedback to see if it is a good idea.

Would anyone else like to see an option for a Project Parts Log? I figure it would be an extra showroom option where you could post photos of individual parts you collect while you are working on a project Tamiya (either vintage or custom). I have tried to do this via the "Misc" option to show and provide detail of vintage parts I have collected for my GrassHopper and Hornet projects. I figure it is a great way to share knowledge of custom parts that are available, where you acquired them, etc.

If it is a good idea. How would we get the option implemented on TC?

Yeah I think its a great idea espically how long and intricate some of our projects are - My fathers espically as well as my pajero T3.

i think that it'd be gd where we can show in more detail what we did to help others so you have my support. Espically as the misc section has loads of other stuff in as well making it hard to find just what u want.

great idea Ryck

Mmmmm not sure I quite understand can you clarify a bit more.

I've already done a bit of work on a projects/parts database idea to help members collect the parts for particular models but not sure thats the same thing you are suggesting. There is an option to add item and list them as 'parts' already, how is this different to what you are suggesting?

Cheers

I figure that the Project Log could be connected to the Showroom Tab or possibly be a new Tab. It would be very similar to posting a Showroom picture with these similarities and differences:

* The 'model number' and 'title' fields would remain

* The 'status' field would be changed to a 'progress' field representing percentage etc

* The 'description' field would remain, except be intended to only describe your project

* Two new fields would preceed the 'caption' field - 'date' and 'part'. The 'part' field would be free form.

* The 'caption' field would be replaced with 'progress comments'. It would be similar to the caption field but allow for several lines of text instead of a single short line.

* The photo link to each would remain.

* These would all be divided into individual slots, the same as posting multiple showroom pictures, except more slots would be available for the Project Log (compared to the standard 6 picture slots used in the showroom). Each slot would still only show one picture.

* The 'extra details' section would likely not be needed.

This way a TC member could show off their project progress in individual sections over weeks / months until completion. The final completed vehicle would then be posted to the showroom.

Other TC members could reference the users Project Log to see how they acquired the parts etc, and how each step progressed to completion.

Currently most members have been using the forums to show Project progress since the Showroom is primarily designed to show off a finished vehicle.

I figured other TC members may like this option to give them a one-stop-shop for cataloging a project, and allow them to show their progress to other members before the finished product goes into the Showroom.

Maybe we can take a poll to see if enough member would use the feature.

I think its a great Idea I would love to show my work in progress as I photograph my restorations as I go along.A good project and a well described one I supposed could be picked for the how to section, restoration techniques etc. It's nice to see more than just the finish example,I like to see the project before during and the final result as well,so you can appreciate the work that goes into a lot of our tamiya's.
