Hello, im new here but i already have a problem! I bought a used TA03f pro that was already assembled, i took it apart to see if the last owner had put it together properly which it had. Then i got to installing the motor...and in the manual it shows it being installed with a 23 tooth pinion, i have a 22 and it wouldnt fit icon_eek.gif ,

as in it doesnt reach the spur gear. There were different spur gears that came with it but i think they might be the same pitch, can you get different pitched spur gears for the TA03?

But there is a table in the manual with all the ratios that can be used and it says 20-29 teeth pinions may be used..humm. Is there something i have missed out? Also i am using a yokomo pro stock 2 - 21 turns and the output shaft is too long conpared to a normal tamiya motor.

If i need to get a new motor thas fine cos i need a new one anyways icon_lol.gif

Anyone who has or hasent got a TA, can you shed some light cos im a complete TA noob icon_razz.gif

Thanks in advance!

Are you mounting it using the correct mounting holes out of the four on the motor. Are you using the right spur should be the black kind with a 22 turn.  Send me a pic and i will have a look if you like.

Did the pinion come with the car? A 48DP pinion as used by many other makes (i.e Losi or Associated) will be a lot smaller in diameter than a Tamiya pinion with the same number of teeth.

Hi, I'm new too. I am an owner of several TA03s (both F and R). Tamiya have a different pinion system compared to any other company for marketing reasons. Most of Tamiya entry to mid level is equipped with what they refer to as 0.6 system which is metric size for 48 pitch standard size. It runs from 16 teeth all the way to 25 teeth. The way to notice this version is that they are usually polished silvery in color and has a very coarse spacing. It looks like this in person:

Now most of the top of the line cars use what Tamiya refers to as 0.4 which is metric for 64 pitch and it looks rather dark in color and much more finer than 0.6. Now, TA03 series uses 0.6 pinions only. You may find Robinson Racing's Standard Spur gear converter from metric to standard 48Pitch or standard 64pitch. Some hobby stores still sell these but you probably have to meticulously find it. Ebay would probably your second best bet. This side is third as I still don't know how to navigate around it.

The 0.6 usually looks like this:

I can sell you one of mine if you need it that is if you live in the US. The postal for international for a single pinion is kinda expensive you know =P.

There are two more designs that Tamiya use. One is currently on revival on Dark Impact called 0.5 and I guess it falls in between 48 and 64 pitch but I don't know what are they going to call it if they ever make a standard version of it. Then of course the 32 pitch metric that they use on Blackfoot, Grasshopper, Hornet etc. They are usually colored gold. You can't miss them. Super coarse spacings and they are usually under 20 teeth.

I hope that helps!

Yes, Tamiya uses metric pitch, 0.8 module on mid 80s cars (called in US also 32 metric pitch), 0.6 module on most others and 0.4 on few race versions and 0.5 on Dark Impact.

My TA03f use 0.6, my TA03r-trf uses 0.4

You can use 0.4 on a normal TA03, you just need to change all the gearing, not just the pinion.

Not really. The differential gear stays the same. Only the spur/counter combination changes. I did the change on one of the race already.
