I believe they use 32 pitch gears. I'd have to open up one of my 3-speeds to check, but I know "regular" Tamiya metric pinions are way too fine, and 32 pitch seemed to look about right. It's only been a couple months since the last buildup, so the memory is pretty fresh and therefore reliable.

Ok  Thanks  ,i was thinking of putting a smaller pinion in to slow the truck down and increase torque, Are smaller pinions availible?

Where can i get get one of these lathe motors from>,I am in the UK, also are they bigger that a standard 540 motors? ,there not a lot of room because of the servos.

Thanks again.

The lathe motors are normal 540 size motors so no worries there.  Even if you don't change the pinion size I would still recommend replacing the stock pinion.  I replaced mine with an RRP hardened steel pinion so I don't have to worry about wearing down the soft aluminium stock pinion and then having to tear half the truck apart to replace it.

That's odd, the pinions in my Knight Hauler and Benz 1838 were brass.

You should be able to get an Integy lathe motor at your LHS, if they carry or can order Integy. If not, try integy.com, I'm sure they'd have them there.

You will have to solder capacitors onto the motor to stop radio noise, and none are provided with the motor, since it's intended for a comm lathe and that's not really a factor in those.

You'll like the lathe motor. I use one in my rock crawler, and it's got torque galore.

Maybe it was brass I couldn't really remember which one it was since I built mine 2 years ago but I knew I didn't want any issues with the pinion and went straight to the RRP pinion.
