Since the EVO 4 is coming out soon, will the TB-02 also be replaced by a TB-03 or TB-04 (to match EVO 4)?

This is pretty crazy since the EVO3 is a 2002 model & TB-02 2003 model. And both are excellent cars, no need to replace them yet, I think.

Sneak preview of the EvoIV is already doing the rounds; from what

it looks like it will only be an "evolution" of EvoIII and not

a total redesign.

Main differences seem to be Tamiya making the gearcases into a

open style alloy bulkhead rather than the plastic molding.

They might also be using a 3-piece centre shaft.

Again TA04 suspension is used... Tamiya might have made some

running changes to the arms (extra shock mount holes) but whether

or not these appear in the final product we will see.

With luck, these pieces might be able to be retro-fitted to EvoIII.

The rest of the car does not look changed at all compared to a

TBe3SL, everything is familiar.

In short, there is no need for "TB-03" yet. [:D]

thats good. You know quite a bit about TA04s right?

I notice they have too much weight on the back and Im battling to get it to handle well at all tracks, tends to understeer. Any suggestions? or tricks with the car?

thanks

Nick:- no, that's not a hassle with the racers over here.

With a typical setup, the TA04 is pretty well balanced

weightwise F-R, its pretty close to 50:50. [?]

Usual starting point for settings (we run tarmac outdoors) is:-

Shocks 40wt all round, or 60wt in front

Springs Yellow all round, or blue (stiffer) in front

Toe 0-1deg toeout

Camber 0.5-1deg all around

2deg toe-in rear blocks for high speed straightline stability.

If you seek more steering try the "Racing Front Suspension"

with the camber link. Those C-hubs have less castor and make

your steering much more lively - might just be what you want. [8D]

If you have twin balldiffs then adjusting them different will

change the handling balance too. Stiffer at rear gives more

steering I think... or could be the other way round. [|)]

Do you use foam tyres with your car?

Ive been trying Tamiya Type A tyres & HPI X-Pattern tyres, because we run a cheap class here for long lasting rubber tyres, thats probably half the problem. Any comment on that? Thanks

Posted

No we run rubbers here too, on tarmac outdoors.

I tried the HPI "Advan" before, but they don't seem very hardwearing.

Only a couple of runs and a lot seem to have scrubbed away... [8)]

but certainly their Mini X-Patts are the hoops to have for Mini.

Tamiya rubber we don't use unless we have to eg TCS.

Rubber of choice is a tossup between Sorex and TakeOff.

TOs are a little cheaper as we can buy them with 'free' inserts

whereas Sorex need to buy separate inserts. The LHSes here

do both at decent prices due to the volumes - everybody uses them

here, also CS27 is the chosen tyre at various big races.

As with all rubber, the first 3-5 runs are the best then performance

might drop off a bit - many use various tyre sauces to improve things.

As for total life... I'm seeing about 120-150 runs before they're

worn thru to the canvas, so can't complain about that.

I dont think we get those tyres here, I must have a look around!

Which are the exact tyres you reckon you get 100+ runs out of?

thanks very much! you're a great help, as always [;)]

TakeOff CS27.

Sorex and TakeOff are Japan made; they are rated according to temp

of your track & weather. TOs come in 22, 27, 32 & 37 grades.

We usually run 27s in the daytime but sometimes 22 before lunch;

32 & 37 are more useful in the tropics with hotter climes.
