Hi guys,

Im the new guy of the board and looking to get the old models I had when I was 14, im now 35. I had a lot of Tamiya kits and when I was a kid to get a new one, I had to sell the old one. I still have RC's and a AWSOME totaly modified TMAXX. I want to start with the kits I was never able to get when I was a kid, I remember drooling over a catalog and wanting SO BAD a Hotshot. My other dream kits were the Porsche 959, Bigwig and Monster Beetle.

Well as luck has it, I was able to find a guy who has all these in a collection that are New in box. My problem is I have no idea of values. I knew they are not cheap, but im turning to you guys to help with some values you think would be fair. So what do you guys think for the Hotshot, Porsche 959, Bigwig and Monster Beetle that are still new in box. Thanks and hope to get pics up soon of my Tmaxx. DJ

I don't know about the 959 or MB, but a NIB Hotshot is worth over a

grand (kinda makes your wallet ache = ), and an NIB Bigwig is worth

even more! Welcome to the Tamiya money pit...

Where do you see a BW for over $1K??? Jason has one right now for BIN $478 and its unsold.

Prices fluctuate significantly from time to time, so you better check completed auctions in ebay and the 2 big ebay shops (jr-rc and tamiya-rc), if my memory serves me right usual auction prices were around $600+ for HS1, $400 for BW, $450 for MB and $500+ for 959.

Cheers

Hello, from what i've seen NIB Hotshots are around $800 USD, i did manage to get a Bigwig last week (NIB) for just $480 USD, which i thought wasn't bad. Cant comment on the other cars tho.

You might want to try a Hornet, or Frog, much cheaper, and so just as fast, but dont handle as well in the dirt, i guess you know that.....

My 2 cents worth. MIKE30,

From what I've been watching lately Hotshot prices are climbing again (Supershots even more so!) but on average you will pay about £300 - £350 for a NIB. A New-Built shelf queen sold for £220 last week on Ebay. If you want to take the cheap option though a good used runner can easily be bought for less than £100.

NIB BigWigs go for less than Hotshots, something which makes little sense to me because there are far less of them around, they are very unique in design and are also the 10th anniversary model. Having said that I have noticed that BigWig runners seem to fetch more than Hotshot runners. Dont know about New-Builts though.

Guess my info's a tad dated! I saw NIB Hotshots selling for that much

when I was restoring mine last year, and I assumed the Bigwig was worth

more because it has so many parts that don't appear on other cars, and

less Bigwigs exist. Isn't that what makes cars valuable?

Rareity plays on a small part in value.  Desirability is the key factor.  When I first started collecting cars I was amazed at the prices Hornets were fetching.  I always thought of those as POS buggies but the fact that so many people started out with one is the main reason they are so collectable now.  Hotshots were far more popular than the Bigwig back in the day.

Maddvildog, I think you can see by our replies that you will pay a hefty premium for any Vintage new in the box kit.  Not only are you paying for the kit contents but your paying for the superior packaing as well.  Depending on what you want in the end your best bets would be to look for either a new built, a mint vehicle or a runner.
