Im having the usual trouble with manual speed controlers. This one is concerning my Hotshot project, it'll either only run at top speed in forward or reverse, so..i decided to put a ESC in it to solve it, problem is this!

As you all know modern ESC,s have their heat-sinks built on them, now if its going into a Hotshot, it gonna be entomed, i worried about overheating, as it will get no airflow when sealed inside.

Question is this, and its only theory...could i solder the conventional hotshot heat-sinks to the heat-sinks on the ESC, thus transmitting the heat(excess electrical current)thru the wires to the outside old style heat-sinks to help cool the ESC, even if only a bit? Or would it burn-out the ESC or something? Could it work?

Please give advice on what to do, if something does go wrong i blame only myself. Thanks again in advance.

Modern ESC's are pretty efficient.  eventhough it's encased, I don't think you would need to add additional heatsinks.  I would however leave you heatsinks on your hotshot because they look cool.

Well I run the TEU-101BK ESC in my Hotshot runner and have no problems with overheating or damage...oh apart from when I drove it in snow and temporarily ruined it! A few minutes drying with a hairdryer sorted that out though.

And I agree with Shodog. Regardless of what you do, leave the old heatsinks on the rollcage cos they are one of the nicest and most defining parts of a Hotshot.

Ok, yes i was still thinking of adding the old heat-sinks anyway so it looks original, plus the wires, manual speed controlers...i dont know how people put up with them in the 80's, ESC's where around then too, but they were almost the price of a R/C kit itself. I bought an optima-mid, had trouble with manual unit with-in 2 days, luckly my parents went and bought an ESC for it, problems ceased.

you got that right.  The Victor engineering ESC I used in my scorcher had a price tag of $134.95.  You could have easily bought a frog kit for that price.

I run a futaba MC230CR speed controller and a sport tuned motor in my hot shot, and I must say the thermal overload circuit has activated quite a few times, you tend to get sick of waiting for it to cool down enough to start running again.
