Ok, I've just got two new (well, second hand) motors.  A Reedy Associated motor and a Team Losi Revolution.  I know absolutely nothing about these motors, not even how many turns they are!!!

My questions are as follow:

How do I know whether the motors need skimming.....how do I get this done and what sort of cost does it involve?

The Revolution has L shaped brushes...not seen this before, should they be like this or do they need replacing?  Where can I get appropriate brushes from, are they standard, i.e. will any fit?

And finally, most motors I've seen recently have no wires/bullet connectors fitted, including mine. I have hunted high and low for these but cannot find any.  Even TimeTunnel say they can't get them!  Where do you all get them from??

Cheers in advance

Both of those motors are standard 27 turn stock motors. The endbells

are held on by metal tags so they cannot be dismantled for servicing.

To check if a motor needs skimming remove a brush and look inside. If

the copper armature is discoloured or burnt it will need skimming.

Unfortunately as the endbells aren't removeable you will need to find

someone who has a motor lathe designed for stock motors. As they

haven't been made for quite a while you would have to be very lucky to

find one. The best solution for cleaning the motors would be to use a

comm stick pushed in the brush holder to clean it up.

Most car hobby shops will skim your comms for you if the motor is

dismantleable (which those aren't) for a few pounds. I also provide a

mail order motor rebuild service if you can't find anyone local to do

it.

The stock motors have a fixed amount of motor timing, based on the

racing rules of the time. The Revolution has cut brushes specially

shaped to give the motor more advance timing by effectively moving the

brushes forward. The brushes are specifically designed for racing and

aren't much use for bashing. It would be best to replace them with

standard brushes.

For choice of motor brushes for older motors I would recommend Reedy

737s. Good power but kind to the armature. Whatever brushes you get

make sure they are standup, most motors these days use laydown brushes

which will not fit properly onto the armature on an older motor.

As for bullet connectors I can't help, mine always end up in the bin as

soldering the ESC direct to the motor is much more efficient.

Cheers for shedding some light on that for me.

Since they are only 27t stock, I'll probably just clean them both up, get some wires for them and make sure they are working ok before selling on.  Thought they may have been some super speedy motors but as I already have a 17t Schumacher and 18t Kyosho there's not much point in me keeping them.

Cheers for the info and I'll bear you in mind if I need any motors rebuilding!!
