G'day,

In a follow up to the thread about happy memories of old hobby stores etc, has anyone got any photos of old hobby stores that show things "as they used to be"?

You know, Tamiya kits and other vintage models, being proudly displayed behind the counter and that sort of thing. I'm sure a few of us would love to see such photos...

I know the local Australian R/C mag used to publish occasional pictures like that, although they were just in black and white. But if no-one else has anything, I could go hunting and scan a few.

cheers,

H.

I think most of us that can relate to the good old hobby stores don't likely to have a camera back than or can effort to have the film develope. Taking pictures back than were for special occasions.  Unlike kids now a days have digital cameras or cell phones with a built in camera.  Maybe TC member like TamiayMan may have some photos as he (still?) owned a hobby store before.  I would guess the photo would likely show the owner seating behind the counter and as a record photo of the shop on opening date or a new staff on his/her first day at work.  I guess the thought will most likely be filed away in our memory instead on black and whit.

I  think I still have some old RCCA magzines full page color ads of Blazing Blazer, Bruiser, Hi-Lux, and SS. It is these ads I saw when I was kid that today I own all the 3-spd trucks now.

Would also love to see such photos but for the reasons stated above I doubt there would be many, I also hate myself now for just making a photo of my old LHS last summer with my mobile and not with my cam before it closed down. [:(]

Some of you might remember my picture from 85 or 86 when I was standing in front of Beatiies  in Bristol (UK)? I need to find this one and will post soon because it shows all great cars of the time like the boomerang, striker, falcon, porsche and many hop ups..

Here is a photo of me standing in front of Beatties as a veeeery young lad.

Great pic!  How many of us did exactly that in our younger years?  I

was 13 or 14 when I went to my first Seattle hobby store that had "the

Hi-Lux".  Oh man, I still remember it on the shelf.  That was 23

years ago[:$]

I remember Beaties, although I was a Bath lad and never went in

there.  Used to go past it on the bus tho, if I went into Bristol

for any purpose...

I did not spent much time outside, I went into the shop right away! And went out with SRB parts. I was so lucky to find some srb parts because from Gemany I was used to find few or none. I got my sand scorcher nib on a flea market in 1985! I still remember how hard it was for me to wait until I finally had received the ball bearings from Conrad Electronic which I ordered via snail mail.

i use to go to a hobby shop in glendale california named robbin's hobby's,It was a lil store that if more than 5 people were in it at a time you would be bumping elbow's.Though it was small i remember going in there to get my grasshopper parts,i remember looking up at all the tamiya kit's and remember seeing the hotshot, and wanting that car so bad!this store was small but out side on sunday afternoon's they had parking lot race's it was just a little track no more than 5 turns and a total running feet of about 4 feet wide by about 200 total feet ,but man that place was packed with people every sunday, racing what ever they had from frogs racing rc10's to radio shack car's racing grashoppers, we even had a guy that had a old kraft motorcycle that he tried to race ,man that was a site this was before gyro's,didnt turn that well but to a kid that was just a jawdropper,i remember sitting in the hot sun with my dad , are pit table was the back of his little pick-up truck ,i must have burned up a dozen batterys using the suicide charger off the car battery.i remember winning my first race there in my class, i beat this one kid who always had the new stuff, and always beat me bad ,but that one day my dad upgraded my hopper to the hornet motor and man it was the fastest car on earth and man it just ran i had the biggest smile on my face as the bell ended the race, and i was leading.I heard that the store burnt down a few years back .im 34 years old now ,but still when i think of that ol hobby store it put's a smile and a big lump in my throat at the same time

those were good ol day's
