Sand Scorcher! [H] Incredible scale looks, loads of metal parts, early Tamiya history, and they're good to run if you can bear to open the box. Any of its cousins (F-150 Ranger, etc) would do in a pinch, but to me the Scorcher is the king of collectibles.

Personally, I wouldn't have the self-control to leave it in the box. It would get built, and all you NIB collectors would rejoice as yours went up in value by one more notch. I do have enough respect not to hack it to bits, though.

A close second would be the Mountaineer/Bruiser and Hilux, with their all-steel chassis, metal axles and 3-speed gearboxes. Wouldn't mind having 3 or 4 of those, either [;)]

I'm with OBH on this one.  The most collectable would have to be the Sand Scorcher.  Followed closely by the Bruiser These were truly from the golden age of Tamiya history.

Diffrent opinion here ;)

I would say 58001, the 934

"as it is the first car" , even if you are not into srb's , old 3 speeds or old race cars, the 56001 is the first car so is the (imho !)  -must have- into the collection.

For "me"  ,  a RT1601 brand spanking new Sherman, first tamiya rc model ever, but that is becouse being more into tanks.  And a NIB 56301 , first rig.. but.. heck, considering there still made up until now, the king hauler is not that "collecteble". It is smart from tamiya, picking a usa long nose, timeless design!

Not like the mercedes who is already outdated, or the FH12 what is not going to take real long anymore before it is gone from the real road.

Hmmm....if the choice was:

My own personal--The Hi-Lux 4x4 without hesitation.  I made the

mistake and missed it the first time in childhood.  Not gonna do

that again![;)]

Most appealing by others--The Sand Scorcher

Most likely to fetch the big bucks, doe, smackers, green, moolah etc--No question, The Bruiser.

Best,

I have a NIB sand scorcher, "cackles with demonic laughter" I may be selling it soon, 'cos I think what I really want is a runner, and perhaps a NIB is not the best place to start, these guy's have put me in a quandry, I'm on holiday next week so I'll think about it. But to answer the question, I think yes it has to be the scorcher.

Sand scorcher OH YAWN YAWN flip me that thing is one of the most common cars on ebay, loads of you guys in the club have one, there's more parts/bits out there than you can sake a stick at,so why does every body(well apart from me) go crazy about it.[:o]

A hi lux yep I can go for that, but what about a Martini Porsche 935 turbo or the RSR 934,thats what I go for before any Sand scorcher[:)].

Posted

so why does every body(well apart from me) go crazy about it.[:o]

There are many reasons why the San Scorcher is popular.  The real VW bug is a hit so you have cross appeal. It was most peoples first love but was too expensive to get. I think the real reason for the Sand scorchers pupularity is that it embodies is the essence of that late 70's carefree California lifestyle.

On another note, I think if the Sand rover body would have been released on an SRB chassis, I think it would be a toss up of which car is most popular.

I'd say the Hilux 4x4. The highest prices I have seen any Tamiya kit go for on ebay have been paid for Hiluxes.  This is my personal favourite too, as my first preference is for trucks.

The number one of any series has got to be a strong contender, so the 934 would be second on my list.

SRBs because they just have that X-factor that makes them all-round greats. I have never been bitten by the Bug,  in fact I seriously disliked VW Beetles 20 - 30 years ago, so I would collect a Ford Ranger before a Scorcher.

Having said that - the Scorcher is obviously the favourite for the vast majority of collectors, and so must rate at or near the top of the list.

Well, my idea of the "most collectible" would be the one that has the LEAST number of NIB kits available in the world.  As far as my opinion - well I would suggest that money wise Sand Scorcher/Bruiser/Mountaineer.  However, the first R/C model by Tamiya would be the most logical.  Personally though, the Sand Scorcher does nothing for me but as far as my most desirable kit ?  The Mountaineer/Bruiser but not for monetary reasons -- rather, personal memories [Y]!

While the Ranger has a great look, I just can't stomach the VW front suspension under a Ford truck. It's just wrong! Although AYK did exactly the same thing with their 566 line (another highly collectible piece there) but with an aluminum rail chassis and gearbox. Very sweet.

I let a 58036 Audi quattro go to eBay because I couldn't find a proper bodyshell for it. New ones are worth 12 times what I paid for the whole car, and it was near mint! Collectible, but not a great driving experience. It's a wonder this hobby ever got off the ground.

hmm, no mention of the black porsche 934 yet?

Not only is it the most valuable NIB, it was a collectable edition of Tamiya's first rc car with exclusive parts, unique packaging, carry case and I believe only sold in Japan.

Gotta be the Striker!

You know that I am "absolutely" joking. How many members actually own these (or admit to owning one). This car is so unapealing, that I think Tamiya invented it on a dare.

Posted

its the one from your era thus it means somethin to you.

i had a supershot and boomerang, and others too. but i'm sorry they didnt do as much for me as a bfoot or beetle.

i got in very late 87/88. so those models i associate w/my youth. bfoot, beetle, box, pumpkin, thundershot etc.

u have ur early pan car guys (dwindlin in #s though). ur RR/SS/holiday etc folks. then their are ur HS/HS2/SS/SSabre/BW guys. then u even have folks that love f101/102s, early tourerrs and the avante/astute/vanquish.

i say buy around you era, if all these preceded you...i think u'll find there's somethin lacking. just my .02

There are a lot of great vintage kits out there, which in your opinions would be the "one to have" in a collection and why. DJ

I personally beleive that that model kit could and SHOULD vary from person to person....collecting should be about what you love - not what a website or other person dictates!  I am digressing and getting on my soapbox - sorry[:$]

For me, the ultimate would be to own one or all of the following:  Kysohso's #1, Black 934, Associated RC-1. All of these are for obvious reasons - all are major manufacturers, 2 have significant high level race heritage which the companies still compete in today.

For the masses though - I think the Sand Scorcher has to be up there. Kyosho as well make my list with cars like the Beetle, Sidewinder(based on the Beetle/Scorpion chassis) Tomahawk and Scorpion. The early kyosho and AYK 2wd buggies really were something to look at as well as drive.

Hi!

Don´t you think a black bumper RR or SS is more sought after than

a "regular" greyish bumper series?

Without hesitation YES!!! even back in the day whaen the SS was hiting

christmas lists (fat chance in my case LOL) when news hit that the

front bumper was no longer black but grey everybody was really peed

off. The ones in the catalogue were black, the ones in the LHS video

were black, the one built for the LHS window was black, the object of

our desires had a black bumper not a grey one. Besides that they just

look so much better.

Also with black bumpers you know for sure that you've got one that was

just for SS or RR, they were long gone by the time the Super Champ,

Ford Ranger, Holiday Buggy and Sand Rover came about.

As for colectability, most desirable generally got to be the scorcher,

most desireable from a finantial investment angle Bruiser or mounty.

For me it's got to be Wild One.[:D] Superbly scaled model, always loved them from the day they were released. Took me 17 years to get one, and when I finally did get I told myself  "use it but don't abuse it", which I did (I don't mean abused it). I loved driving it. Then I did the stupidest thing, I sold it (along with some other Tamiyas) in order to buy a nitro powered piece of c**p. Now I want another one and it probaly going to be another 17 years before I get one [:'(] I miss my Wild One.

Next in line after a Wild One I would have to say would be a Sand Scorcher, because I like VW's.

for me it has to be the nissan kingacab, no where near as wanted as others but still i love it, i also wanted a wildone, which i do have now just and it brings back so many memories to drive. A BIN sand scorcher would be nice but to be honest i cant remember them when i was young ;o) i 'm posssibly not old enough .......

Well, yes.. Many will of course say that the Scorcher or a Mounty / Bruiser would be the best..

Ever since i first layed eyes on a Wild One at a local Tamiya offroad race near my home, i was fascinated by the looks and, (yes, LOL) also the performance of the WO, and since then, i have been wanting one..

Now, thanks to Tamiyaclub, i have 2 beautifully restored versions, bought from other members, and 1 NIB also bought from another TC-member..

I had planned to run at least 1 of the restored ones, but havent gotten around to it yet.

As for the NIB-car..

IF my back eventually breaks down completely, paralyzing my legs, (as it very well could do, according to the Doctors), i will treat myself, and build it then.. But not before!.

And if i dont get anymore problems with my back, it will stay NIB.  ;)

Cheers..

It has to be all the old 3spds....

look at the metal ladder frame

look at the axles and even lockable front for the Hilux and Blazer

look at leaf springs and shocks

look at the metal 3 spd tranny that requires transmission oil

look at details including the interior

you add them up...look so real.  There is nothing even come close to these 3 spds.

For me, it has to be the things that were big when I was into Tamiya, which was early-mid 90s.

The King Cab was my first proper RC, given to me for £10 from my cousin

when it was a year old and completely trashed.  I bought a new

shell, painted it (badly) and hammered it into the ground, eventually

swapping it for a CB radio.  If a NIB cab came along at the right

price, I would buy it - to build and run carefully.

The Hornet, of course, was the desirable "budget" car when I was

younger - and now they're on re-re I'm very tempted to get one,

although similar money gets me a newer, better handling car.

My favourite Tamiya Junior was the Super Astute, therefore if a full-scale Super Astute came along, I think I'd have to have it.

Finally, I'd mention the Midnight Pumpkin, as it was the truck I

aspired to own when I was but a young boy, although in truth I'm

disappointed with the re-re that I've now got.  Seems very slow

compared to the King Cab / Mud Blaster that I had, has virtually no

control off-road, and is a nightmare to drive.  That said, very

soon it'll be undergoing modifications to turn it into a stunt-only car

with a lexan shell :)

ax, did the same thing here. always wanted a boomerang and hot/supershot as a kid staring @ rc model car, rcca, and early tower catalogs...but when i got them. eh.....

now the blackfoot...that was a different deal --shocked myself thinkin that i raced that thing for 3 seasons. who holds onto a car that long anymore these days.

Tamiya Sand Scorcher. WITHOUT HESITATION!

I LOVE the Veedub Bug, and it is the most scale one ( Monster Beetle and Blizter just dont " do it " )

-Single Swingarm rear suspension ( SS and 1:1 )

-Torsion Bar and Beams front suspension ( SS and 1:1 ) ( The 1:1 had 2 Beams, and in 1972 changed to MacPhearson struts )

-Water-Resistant ( SS and 1:1 )

-**** Cool Lookin ( SS and 1:1 )

- **** UNRELIABLE ( Eh Steviedee? ) ( SS and 1:1 )

I Rest My Case.

1:1 VW Bug unreliable??? [:o]

You forgot also both are aircooled [:D] LOL

Btw, as the 1:1 front suspension changed later to McPherson, also the rear one changed from swing to the much better and safer diagonal axle.
