Hope this is the right place for it.

Due to the popularity of my showroom entry of the 3d Scorcher

I thought I'd open up a work in progress thread here. Updates may not

be regular or frequent but if you look at the showroom entry and whats

here thats exactly what I have to date.

This week has been inside of gearbox and start of other side plus shock

absorbers, roll bar and rear cage are temporary, hope you like.

P.S. Would people prefer just links to pics or pics in the thread as here?

Thanks all [:D]

@ Theo, do you have to fill my head with crazy ideas? its jam packed

already [:)], now theres a thought though [6] I don't know much about

CNC stuff  but does anybody know if this is really doable?

Posted

Anything is doable, only for a mechanical construction you would need also to specifiy tolerances and I doubt it would be financially feasible, still a nice daydream [:)]

Cheers

I think it is do-able. If the parts have been done in a 3D  Cad package they could be ex an NC program for machining, The quicker solution is this. Export or save the parts in .stl format, this is the script for 3D printing in lazer sintered nylon or a suitable plastic. Take these printed parts to a foundry and ask them to mould them out of Ali. The critical parts to be machines after the moulding are the mating faces and the shaft bores. so the face should be over size on the stl and the bores a bit under size to allow for finial machining. The rest can be polished.

@ Mike T : LOL just the one 'quite' would do me under talented :-) and

I'd say instead of bored 'frustrated' as I can't play with my real

Tamiyas right now, but I can work on this without making a HUGE mess.

Took a break from the chassis and started on body texture

Light lenses to do next

Cheers & Spot on Mike, just checked my showroom & your right,

its a leftover from when it was a real bug. Will get onto it. I've also

noticed I've still got chrome trim around rear light.

Phil, That looks ace.  Beside drooling at the pic, what can you do with it?

Jim

Thanks Jim, apart from drooling over a paint job I cant achive in real

life ;-) I really need to get my head around the animation aspect of

the software which is seriously powerful so the plan is to rig* the

model to make a short action sequence with it and a rough rider (easy

to model by comparison) and then I was going to atempt animating a

build following the manual page by page. Once I've done that I can use

the same rig* on a low poly version for one of the games technology

lecturers here to put in his game engine so I can drive it around in

the VR lab, yep far too many cool toys at work. How much of this

actually gets done I don't know.

* Rig = lots of virtual links so when you steer with a games controller

the steering servo rotates steering rods move & wheels turn left

& right while rotating over ground automatically so you don't have

to animate every part.

Scorchio, absolutely stunning!

Man, a virtual Sand Scorcher, lovely idea!

Can't wait for the animation! (well, I have to....unfortunately...).

That'll be a virtual shelf queen! (a virual shelf that is...).

Top notch!

Phil, you are aware of beer and women, right?

Mental work fella, which GTA will this work in? [H]

O.K. you lot, your making me blush now [:$] but many thanks [:)]

Phil, you are aware of beer and women, right?

LOL Yes I remember beer and women well, and fond memories they are too.

Its all nappies and just the one woman now though but I would'nt cange

it for the world :-). Cheers mate

Oh and this will find its way into SA eventually, I had so many

problems with last attempt I just lost interest but used different

software on that one.

For anyone interested this is currently upto 150,000 polies! I think thats roughly an entire game level.

Well since I started this thread there has been another baby [:D] a girl this time called Tilly born Oct 11th & 1 month old today. So progress has slowed but heres where I'm at right now.

Still a few errors but all major parts pretty much there except MSC & proper motor. As a result of lack of time I think build animation has now gone out the window.

You may notice a split above chrome door trim in one pic, a gap above rear wheel arch and rear wheels not far enough appart, I know what the probs are just can't be bothered to fix em right now [:$] and some matterials are temporary for fast renders i.e. brass & ally.

Oh yeah, @ Mike T  sorted that running board out. Cheers for heads up.

So far what you see has taken exactly 1 year of spare time (between 2 & 8 hours a week), but still in no rush to finish. What dya think?
