OK State of play.

I was added a simple new feature to the main site when I accidentally deleted the whole of the main database. Thats BAD.

Good news is I have backups - bad news is I can't get at them as they are not in my control. I am currently chasing the hosts. If it takes much longer I'll restore a manual backup as a stop gap. I have one but its about a month old, so don't be surprised if recent things don't appear there.

More info when I know more.

Good luck fella, lemme know if there's owt I can do

i want to echo that, if there is anything we can do (even copying and pasting data into a DB) then just yell..

I hope it doesn't resort to that though..

Best of Luck![:D]

Thanks for all the offers of help, but it just a case of me wading through the various files and restoring stuff, which will take a while.

All the pictures and movies are safe, although linking them back to the original entries is looking 'interesting' at the moment.

18:36hrs Current status.

I could bring the site back now, BUT

The last full working backup database I've managed to get to work from scratch is dated 8th of may [:'(] - All I've managed to get off the later databases backups so far is the user table - ie all registered users and subscribers to the time of the problem. (If this table had gone for good - it would have caused major major problems)

That said, none of the uploaded photos have been lost at all right up to this morning, but in the worse case you might have to save them to your machine and then reupload them (interestingly enough on this - I've noticed that if I do this you will be able to access all the pictures you've uploaded ever - even if you thought you had deleted them - I got a bit lost down memory lane for a bit when I saw what was in my folder)

Trades: I'm thinking now might be a good time to wipe the slate and start again, a lot of the stuff in there was very old, (and causing some problems with people finding things that were deleted) and the change I was making was related to improved handling of the trades section. I know this is a bit of a pain for those that uploaded recently but if it comes to it I will waiver the 30 days rule and you can enter again immediately. (Anyone linking to any pictures remotely like from ebay, will still be ok and the pictures should show)

So the big losses at the moment that I am still working on is

- model comments, no sign of those posted since the 8th of may yet, same for movie comments (but again the movie files themselves are safe)

Showroom entries - pictures are fine but the actual data/text is still AWOL.

Unfortunately I can't bring the database back as it stands, if there is chance I can still recover more data. If I make it live and then people use it then it makes it impossible to restore any more data.

Its going to be a long night.

Dont sweat it Chris . Though yes I miss my home away from home ( even though I just noticed it was gone ) . You have to be running the most unproblomatic web site Ive ever seen . This is only what the second or third time the web site has been unaccessable since I joined up and thats been two years now ( roughly ) . And as proud as I am of my pale complection I dont think it will kill me to let the sun shine down on me once again ( go outside ) . Though if I get a sunburn Im going to start sending you hate mail [:P] .... Well , ok , not so much hate mail but more of a whining letter about my skin being on fire ...[:D] lol

Hi Chris:

Thank you for the update, I am sure all the members will wait very patiently while you take care of business and restore the database.  This has happened to all of us one time or another.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Good luck

wow! when it said "major problem" I had no idea. When you hear something like this has happened I will just be glad to get back whatever you can. Nothing like a good spring clean to refresh the showroom anyway.

I wish you all the best with the restore Chris,

Chris, although on the face of it this is a bad event, it does provide you with an oportunity to even things out and make the club more 'fair' to those of us who can't be bothered to build or paint nice models. I therefore suggest that the contents Monty's showroom is evenly distributed between myself and say 6(?) other members with mediocre collections - is this possible?

Posted

Oef, actually would be not so "worried" about photo's lost in digital space,

can always upload them again. (i guess everybody saves them "local" also in the original format)

Would be more sad about lost entery tekst, as some models having quite some typework in them. Guess nobody made a home-backup on those.

How are the manuals and leaflets doing ? still alive ?

A well, the forum is still alive! ;)

Hey Buzz,

Good thought man, but I can't be bothered to have pictures of Monty's cars. My suggestion is that when Chris is done, he go to Monty's house, collect the cars, then distribute them equally, as opposed to photos only. [:D]  No Buzz, I don't know how he'll get past Andy into his house, but that's not my problem. I'm one of those people who points out problems and DON'T offer solutions.

Hey Chris,

It will be up when it's up.  It'll be like a new TC if none of the comments get restored.  I'll (and everyone else will) have to go through everyone's showrooms all over again and leave more comments.  It's a good chance for me to see updates to models that I forgot about.  Anywho, good luck and keep charging; you'll get it. And, QUIT SCREWING UP! [;)]

The glass is always half full except when it's half empty.

Never mind, gave me an excuse to go outside and wash the car[:D]

It's Sunday so don't work too hard on it Chris.

I'm sure we can survive for a bit without TC[;)]

(runs away from the boos and rotten tomatoes!)

Cheers.
