I race a TA04-SS that I've modified and I like it a lot better than my TT01 I had. The TT01 is a down graded TB02 in my eyes and the TA04 is the starting like for all the 414's so it has been proven you can hop it up nicely. Do you want to race indoors or outdoors? I've had rocks get stuck in my spur and chew up pinions because of that.  Down side. The TT01 is sealed so it's ok outside.

The stock TA04-s verses the TT01R is kind of one sided. One is built for racing and the other is a good starting car. I'll let you figure out which is which.

Thanks Josh

I also have the chance to buy a TRF415MS second hand for US 245.00. I really want to have a outside car TT01 and a good indoor racer. Thanks for you responce

First the S in TA-04S basically means it is ballraced, unlike the basic version.

The TT-01 is designed as a basic beginners chassis that is easy to

build with no adjustment. The TT-01R adds an alloy propshaft and oil

shocks, both are recommended options to enable the basic kit to run

with hotter motors than the 540. Still no adjustable suspension and a

very limited number of gearing options.

The TA-04 chassis is based on the TRF414 World Championship winning

chassis, using the same adjustable racing suspension and drivetrain.

Comes with oil shocks as standard, these are counted as an option part

for the TT-01. the same suspension is still used on the newer TA-05 and

the optional suspension parts for the latest TRF415MSX will also fit

straight on, so plenty of tuning options. A proper slotted alloy motor

mount means you can run just about any gear ratio you want so you can

run whatever motor you fancy and you should be able to gear it right.

I think you can guess which one to go for.

If you just want something to run outside then the TT-01 is cheap, but

if you are planning on racing outdoors I would still go for the TA-04

every time. If you want to race shaft drive and you want to use Tamiya

(the best shaft drive tourer has to be an Associated TC3 or TC4) you

want to look for a TB-02R or one of the TB Evo cars.

I would go for the TA04 if i was track racing or palnning to be more serious as u need to be to work on the setup and maintenance which will take longer than the TT01 which whilst fairly bomb proof is designed as a beginner car and as thus is constructed around that ethos.

Any chance u can push ure budget for a TA05? bout £10 more

TT01R and D have ajustable upper arms (camber), but as said still no racing alternative to TA04.

... a very limited number of gearing options.

Well, with the (hop-up) speed spur gear set (55t and 58t) you'll have another 8 different gearing options beside the standard 4. (61t spur gear).

The problem is, however, it's a real nightmare to change them!!!

But then again, a hopped up TT01 would cost a lot more than a different standard chassis...(like TB Evo)

Because I had a TT01 already, I decided it would be cheaper to buy all the major upgrades instead of buying an other chassis. (I got the TT01 cheap).

Now it has following hop-ups:

-Ball bearings (already present).

-Alu motorplate (already present) #53666.

-Speed spur gears + pinions #53665.

-Alu prop shaft #53620.

-Alu steering (ball bearings) #53670.

-Carbon "upper deck" (you need this for the stab. set) #53672.

-Adjustable upper arms (you need these for the stab. set) #53674.

-Stabilisation set front (3 different strenghts) #53694.

-Stabilisation set rear (3 different strenghts) #53695

-Adjustable ball-diff (rear) #53663.

-One-way-diff (front) #53671.

-TRF-adjustable dampers.(blue/yellow ones) #53571.

-Damper oil (medium set 500/600/700) #53444.

-Adjustable turnbuckle tie-rods #53662.

Now it's a very nice car to drive...of course...

That makes a total of 12 gear ratios. Just using Tamiyas 3 spur gears

give 21 ratios on the TA-04. Using other makes of spur gears means

there are at least 100 spur/pinion combinations that would fit thanks

to the slotted motor mount and the use of an industry standard spur

gear.

Also with all that money spend on hopups you could have gotten a much better kit instead, a little Fiat will never become a Ferrari, regardless how much money you put in it.

Yes, but is it really necessary?

I should think 12 ratios should be enough to set up the car for a particular purpose and that's a good point.

On the other hand, it's a nightmare to change them: a really bad point so a TA04 is a better choice if it comes to gear ratios.

Also with all that money spend on hopups you could have gotten a much better kit instead, a little Fiat will never become a Ferrari, regardless how much money you put in it.

Indeed, a Kyosho will never be a Tamiya...[;)]

LOL, bad example mate: a Ferrari IS a Fiat! (at least 56%, not sure if they bought the 29% back on 30th june (stock option), if so it would be 85% by now).[:P]

Ok, now serious: wouldn't it be wiser to buy a secondhand TB Evo?

I think it's a very nice design.

Sure, already since the late 80s Ferrari was bought by Fiat, but still try to make a Fiat perform like a Ferrari [;)]
