Hello all,

I have a decent TT-01 with all the hops-ups that make it more managable but want to make it into a 2wd as 4wd is getting abit boring. It has a 12 turn motor and if i just took out the drive shaft the gearbox should hold? The tt-01 is used for the desert gator i think or somthing similiar and if it has the smae chasis/gearbox and that is 2wd then my tt-01 road car should last okay?

Technically it will work but don't expect it to handle. There is no 2WD version of the TT-01, the Desert Gator is totally different and designed to work as a 2WD. Because the TT-01 was designed for 4WD it will be pretty nasty to drive especially with the 12.

Try filling the rear diff with blue tac and leaving it 4WD. Locking the rear diff should make it oversteer more, but not be uncontrollable like making it RWD with a 12 turn motor would be!!

Its going to be pretty much a waste to do this as all you can remove is the front drive shafts, as you need to leave the propshaft as the spur is mounted to this, you will also need to leave all the gears in front diff to hold the propshaft in place.

If you want a 2wd car I personally would suggest buying a different car, you will get more benefits from it.

Converting 4wd to 2wd would be easier if it was a belt drive car with 2 belts.

As biggus has said u will need to leave  in the prop shaft to hold the spur gear steady and the front gears to keep the prop in place so can only remove the drive shafts.

I did perform this on my TT01 when i had a stratos shell and it was very refreshing to drive. However i was only using a standard silver can and even that was able to spin out if i was over zelous on the throttle. Its now front wheel drive awaiting a cop car shell and lights to chase u all down and its much better now just lots of understeer it u are to on the power to much lol -

I forgot about the spur gear and it needing the main driveshaft so i will as mention above take the front driveshafts out so cheers for saving me 15mins taking it apart and puting it back together again! I will take the front driveshafts out and give it a proper bashing to see if i can control it i will let you know how i get on and thanks for the info.

Gotta agree I don't think the TT-01 is the best candidate for a RWD conversion.

If you get hold of an M-04M a couple of extra chassis spacers and some TL-01 arms and dogbones (all fairly cheap and easy to find), you can put together a RWD chassis that will fit correctly under most touring car sized shells.

I will also be far lighter than the TT-01, and a silver can will be more than enough to give plenty of tail out antics. I've done this now with a few projects (Stratis, BMW Grp5 Tourer and shortly a '68 Camaro) and it works really well.

RWD is a real hoot - maybe not very competitive against 4WD on the track, but loads more fun and much more challenging to drive.

No reason why you couldn't try it with an M-03 and a similar approach to get a light FWD car - again, parts and hopups are cheap and plentiful.

Cheers,

Chris
