Been meaning to do this for a long time, after I saw CulTech's version and the pic at the very bottom.

These are prep pics of the first shell - I say first because I had a little temper tantrum when the marker pen reacted with the paint whilst I was black-lining the windows - Don't use marker pen, paint wipes off a whole lot easier (as proved on shell MKII)

Anyway, the shell below ended up getting aggresively bounced off a large concrete flower tub we have in the garden, which resulted in the roof becoming detached all bar one front pillar.

This was after all the work below, and after the primering, and after the painting

DON'T USE MARKER PENS!

So anyway, the thing I really dislike about Scorcher/Blitzer shells is the line between the nosecone and the rest of the body - it may well be designed that way, I just don't like it.

I also filled in the sunroof, cut the door handles off and filled the reliefs and the same for the front number plate.

Not really sure why it went that far, but I was sat outside and it's been good and hot here lately!

I also removed most of the mold lines I could find, and trimmed the rear arches using the lines as a starting point.

Then deseamed the roof (told you it was nice out)

Then the front wings were cut, using Tamiya masking tape as a width guide!

All the work was done with a scalpel, side cutters and a sanding block  (sandpaper outer with soft foam inner)

The shell above was primered, then had a go with Fluorescent Yellow paint

Would strongly recommend NOT to try Halfords Flo Yellow paint - it dries powdery and literally blows off the surface.

Not sure if it was a dodgy can, but all the steps were followed.

Then came the marker pen, and then the flower pot!

The shell below is the second one (cheers Modelbuild), painted Halfords Volkswagen Orange [H]

Decals are a mix of XXX Main (nosecone) and Autographics Sprint Car logos.

The Firepower one on the roof is covering the patch-up where the windscreen screw came thru the roof and I thought it best to just cover it rather than attempt a repaint

For my second hardshell since I was about 8 (the first being the week before) I'm quite chuffed with the results.

This shell had another shot of Flo Yellow (just in case) which was then removed (see above) re-primered and ended orange.

Window rubbers were done freehand with a big brush and very little paint (Tamiya acrylic black) and just repeatedly done until they were black.

Whilst all this was going on, the chassis was sitting around;

Similar to the Cobra chassis, gearbox is laid down, cut away on the motor side to keep it all inside the chassis

Gearbox is from a Traxxas Stampede, 87t spur and I think 12t pinion.

Steel UJs and extended 'pede shafts, just waiting on the rear UJs to arrive.

Locked up diffs, driving Tobee wheel wideners from JR-RC (24mm ones)

Wheels are RC4WD ones, I got them thru TC from Chain Driven

Drew up some new top-link mounts too, using the kit brackets to anchor the links to.

Will only work with smaller servos, around 25mm from rear of mount tabs to bottom of servo (Towerpro for instance!)

Anyway, that's the boring bit, here's the prawn;

That looks gorgeous, super job on the shell and that colour looks SOOO right!

Personally I have to say that the rear steering doesn't look right with this shell (even the 1:1), I guess I'm just old fashioned and prefer a 2ws setup despite the obvious benefits in crawling ability that 4ws brings.
