Hi all,

Took my TL-01B out for a spin but did not get far. My motor (Trinity Gem Amber) completely jammed due to a rock between the poleshoe and magnet. My motor was filled with dust from the magents and even a small piece of magnet was broken of.

Is it possible to seal the motor in a way that you won't get dirt in but maintain cooling? Are there covers or something available? Have taken a look on the trinity website but they don't have anything available.

Keeping fine dust out of your motor is near impossible. But to keep out larger grains of dirt and small stones, try wrapping your motor with a gauze bandage.

Something else you could try is making a foam motor filter, using foam similar to what is used to make off road tyre inserts (or for that matter, use an old tyre insert). Along the same lines, you could also try to buy a small Motorcycle foam air filter and use that. I think they call these "Uni filters", but when you see one, you will know what I mean.

I use the wraparound heatsinks on my trucks, just rotate them until the cover the airholes in the can

Associated Motor Heatsink, Blue Aluminum TC4

If you get 2, then cut part of the sides off like the one below, you can interlock them so the cover the whole can

Obviously using heatsinks without holes in would be a better idea (just noticed them [:$])

Update:

It seems that in our company we have a winding department with a enormous selection of copper winding. They can even wind these litlle rotors!!

Buy a pair of ladies tights (pantyhose for those of you listening in American!![:D]) cut a piece large enough to go round the motor use some insulation tape to stick it on your motor just ensure when you stick it on you've pulled the material so it's tight, keeps stones and the majority of dust out but still allows air in, obviously don't use fishnet tights, also if you shop around tights are available in a variety of colours so you can mix and match to your cars colour scheme and one pair lasts ages!!

Ouch - i worked on using the tub that my 27turn trinity motor came in and cutting that to fit over the motor and slot in between the motor and the chassis of my TL01B (which is now for sale - see trades). I never actaully tested it but in therory the end of it would keep dust ect out of ure end bell then cut the side out of the tub thing to mount a heatsink to keep the temperatures down.

hope this helps Ryck

I use the aluminium gauze that is sold in car accessory shops for filling large holes in bodywork. Cut a strip large enough to wrap around the can, wrap it around and fix it with cable ties or gaffer tape and you can then remove it to service the motor. It keeps the grit out and lets the air through, and only costs about £1 for a sheet, which is enough to do 10+ motors.
