What do you think will ultimately will be the better console the already highly rated Xbox 360, The upcoming highly anticipated Ps3, and the new but pre gen console that has caused a huge hype at e3 The Nintendo Wii (pronounced Wee , yes funny i know :). When you tell people witch console is best try to give it a score on these departments.

Looks

Performance

Launch Games

Size

Features

And any others you want to ad.  Remember though the xbox 360 will be having a HD-DVD drive up for grabs at about the same launch time as the PS3 for a RRP (not definite) of 129.99 Uk pounds.

right, here we go.

i think the 360 is better looking (abut i can't really say because no-one is sure what the finished PS3 will look like. the redesigned controllers for the PS3 do look good, and they will work well.

as for performance, the PS3 will win (they have had time to deliberately improve it to make it better than the 360) and ultimately it will be backwards compatible. blu-ray as standard (i think) will beat the £130 needed to get HD-DVD on top of the expensive 360. PS3 also has bluetooth, card slots, and accepts better HDDs. all controllers are wireless too.

as far as games go, i have already seen a game i MUST buy, Motorstorm.

motorstorm-20060704031131622.jpg

it looks like a cross between the dakar rally, twisted metal and Gran turismo. thats as far as i got with games

i think they are both about the same size.

x-box live seems better than Ps2 online, but i don't know how the PS3 will be. it's also compatible with the PSP, so good if you have deep enough pockets. i'm a big sony fan and have a PS2 only, but i think that the HD-DVD after-thought won't do x-box any good. after all, it's made by microsoft... think.gif

Nope blue ray not as standard only on the 500+ USD package, on the lower package it also doesnt come with dhmi socket and other things. Plus there is a major flaw the the PS3 it can read data off the dic 30x faster than it can process it, so essentially that is a badword of a lot of raw performance wasted.

Its floting point processing power is twice as mutch as the 360 but it needs to be because the blue ray disc needs 2 tera flops of proccessing power, wereas the DVD and Hd dvd only use 1 teraflop, so if the 360 had 2 esenntially the other teraflop would only be used in keeping the game above 25 Frames per second. nearly all games must run at 25+ frames per second or they will judder, but they are designed to stay above that on just 1 teraflop floating processor power, so only un well designed games will use the 2nd teraflop.

Also you must understand that the xbox 360 will have a 9 million sales lead too the launch of the ps3, the ps3 games will also be more expensive to the xbox 360 DVD games.

Iv explained my reasons why the 360 will win well, so try and prove me wrong !

How come nobody is including the Nintendo Wii?  The ps3 is over priced and xbox is nothing but flashing lights to numb your senses.  Keep it real with the King of Consols.

I reckon over all it will be the Xbox and thats not just because I've got one. But I also think that the Nintendo Wii will be popular as well. Plus you can get an Xbox and a Wii for the price of one PS3!

I almost forgot the most important thing, HALO 3!

I wish i still had Alex Kidd on my Sega Master System II !!!

I've still got my Master System II in the loft somewhere, god knows if it still works. I also have a Sega Mega Drive and SNES. The SNES is currently connected to my 5.1 surround sound setup, so playing Super Mario World is so much better!

If Microsoft keep bringing out games like Forza Motorsport and Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow the online war will remain XBOX i've been online with both consoles mine the xbox and my freinds the ps2, the ps2 has more of a seemed to me a younger generation of gamer online, ps2's shape and weight to me is better than the xbox as its not so heavy and bulky to carry round to a mates place. The headset on the xbox is no less than perfect which helps alot makes you feel your in the game. The ps2 was the original machine i had but personally the games and the graphics made me swtich, may be the ps3 will make me switch back but i doubt it due to having made clans etc.. on xbox live. Sorry if this is totally random statement but i wanted to get most of it in.

Also: Live on Dreamcast & Shenmue!

He..he..he.."here we go" is right.

For the record I have no personal bias. I own an Xbox (original) now

but only because my friend Mark has one and nearly 100 games (at

$60 with tax for each game, I'm no dummy[:D]). It's only a personal opinion

as my knowledge of gaming (in general) is rather boringly average but I

believe the X-360 is better oriented toward the "hard-core" gamer, or

for the individual that wants the most "end-user" computing muscle (i.e. "me"). I

think the Sony PS is more oriented at "family gaming" with a better

range of titles and a better all-around entertainment package. Taking history into account, both the

Sony and MS machines are

morbidly obese in price with initial release. I would wait. The Wii? Not familiar enough to comment.

Mark J. Ferreri, by best friend, IS a knowledgeable gamer. He owns a

Vectrex (spell??), original Atari, Sega (Genesis?), Dreamcast,

GameCube, PS1, XBox, GameBoy (2nd or 3rd gen.) and XBox 360.

Mark is also a founding member and moderator on Jamazon.com, previously

known as Amazon.com Computer and Video Games Discussion Board.

Iv previously had a Ps2 and then the laser n it broke so we didnt fix it but got an xbox instead so thats why my oppinion is unbiased. The xbox is better in anumber of ways its more powerful for number one. Its made by Microsoft and the ps2 controllers were ok but you seemed to have to try and fit your hand around the controller were as the controller on the xbox seemed to nicely fit my hand and the joysticks are more conveniantly placed. And as for now the xbox 360 seems to have a lot of hot games cming up on it like Halo 3 , Saints row, Huxley, Gears of War,Test Drive unlimeted, fight night round 3,Splinter cell double agent, rainbow six vegas. its live performance is unparreleld (spelling ?). The xbox 360 also has many good accesories like the upcoming Camera with face  scaning technology to put in your face into games , its quick charger for the controllers, the 5.1 surround sound from panasonic (or pioneer not sure?) and its wireless steering wheel. Plus the live arcade brings all the original games back in HD and optimized forn the 360. Also the 360 uses all its power were as the PS3 reads data 30x quicker than it can process it. Also games must run at atleast 20+ frames per second before games look dodgy and this can be achieved with the 1 teraflop floating point perfromance like the 360 the ps3 has 2 teraflops to make it run at slightly higher frames per second which isnt really usfull as you wont notice it, only really on cinematic cutscenes it'll stop The notorious vertical sync problem on HD tvs, but like me most people will probably quit the cutscenes.

And another thing is that the Graphics chip is ATI which has been recently bought by AMD so the processor in the 360 currently IBM chip will probably be replaced by an AMD chip which are known for there good gaming performance so the chip will be designed to run specificly with the custom ATI card so the performance will be boosted.

And i could go on but my figers hurt. Sorry if i forgot to punctuate well.

Many Thanks

i've had my ps2 for 3 years, and the only thing that broke was the spring in the memory card slot. i'm not sure if i'll be buying either, i've just upgraded my PC to an athlon X2 4200. very fast!

Allanto, where are you getting your information from mate. Blue Ray comes as standard on both the PS3 models. Obviously it does, they're both going to have to play the same games.

I think you've got yourself muddled up over Blue Ray speed, you've got it the wrong way round. Its the PS3 Cell that can process far faster than the Blue Ray can read, thats its big problem, the actual Blue Ray disk is quite slow becasue of its volume, whilst the Cell processor is fantastically fast.

Most people in the games industry, and I know a few, think the PS3 is going to be better console, in the long run. The power of the Cell is yet to be properly worked out and will take a few years but when its capabilities are harnessed, look out.

Also the maximum size of a 360 game is 9GB, tops. You've got 50GB available to the PS3, you are going to see some incredible games for it.

I'm not a Sony fan boy, there are a lot of things I like the 360 for (its price for one) but if you look ahead a few years down the line I think PS3 is going to be real next gen console.

I have a 360 and while its an impressive console WHERE'S THE GAMES!! I have been waiting for dead rising to come out for ages and it keeps getting put back. Some weeks i think to myself that i have a few quid spare i might get a game for the 360 but i usually end up buying a ps2 game as the 360 line up hardly seems to change from one week to the next. I bought an excellent racing game called Flatout 2 on friday for the ps2, excellent fun!

Ahh yes maybe  i did get it the wrong way around. And as you said in the LONG RUN the ps3 may be better, but by that time the New Consoles will be near launch. Any way i just got my info from several months of research and im pretty sure that one Ps3 console wont have some of the HDMI ports like the more expensive one, and i don know were i found the ps3 wont have a Blue Ray disc. LOL i definitly read it though. O yes about the 9gb capacity this dosnt seem to be a problem at tyhe moment as they can still fit a badword of a lot of data onto that as microsoft has gave developers Extremely good compression software wihich will minimize the size by around 3x so actually your gettinng 27gb capacity which in my oppinion is enough , this has already been proven by the up and coming game Just Cause for the 360 which has over 1000 square miles of glorious land in un before seen graphics, when i first herd 1000 square miles i thought to fit that all in there has to be no detail but this is not the case. The Ps3 does have an option to have huge games i know, but if developers use 50gb think what the game will be like the developers would struggle to get a good plot and storyline because it would have to last so long it would get very tideous as you will likely find the games more repetative.

Let The best Console Win ! which is the 360, ow and on the disscusion of the 360>Microsoft>Bill Gates did you know that  Billy company fortune will increase by a minimum of 4 million dollars so actually that measn he gets 4 million dollars by sleeping for about 10 hours, thats kinda cool !

not only delayed, but no where near the numbers they had hoped for at the start.

We are still being told November 17th here, but only 400,000 units initially.

I think Sony may have just "poo-pooed" their once dominance of market share. I'm beginning to feel the PS3 may end up benefitting Bill Gates the most. Time will tell.
