Keep us updated - I'm from Bath, but don't mind sneaking down to the Newforest for a day in October [:)]

Will probably bring:

Pumpkin for messing about

Dark Impact for off-road racing

Bearhawk for bashing

Don't have any proper off-road trucks at the mo, and can't afford to buy anything unless it turns up cheap in Traderoom [:D]

will do :P) where do you usually go in bath?

Depends what I'm running.  For buggies / off-road, I usually go to

Stockhill car park in Priddy.  It's quiet in the evenings, massive

gravel car park with lots of dirt ramps, little narrow dirt paths,

banks, ditches and hedges to mess around in.  If you walk along

the public footpaths there are some lovely little alpine gardens which

would probably be excellent for mud-crawling - although I doubt the

local wildlife people would like it much...

For tarmac, I go to a local trading estate in Westfield.  Haven't

had any problems or complaints so far using private car parks (just me

alone).

I intend to pop along to the Swindon RC club sometime to see about a bit of light-hearted racing [:)]

cool ive been looking for a decent gravel track, perhaps we could meet up one sunday for a burn up! im just about to start racing at chippenham model car club, but its onroad only indoors. need my off road fix!! let me know when your going off road next and ill see if i can get over there with a few tamiyas

Will do Gaz - there's another local guy who uses the grounds of a

concrete factory for off-road buggies, although I've never been there

myself.  I'll try to find out where that is - the only place I

know is good late in the evening when the tourists have gone home, but

during the day it's very busy - it's in the middle of a nature reserve

- so no nitro!

If you're planning offroading in early October, I'd love to come along too! Plus my other half Alex. We've got a mixture of 4x4 buggies, Wild Dagger, Bullhead & Juggy2.

I'm in Somerset but I'm used to travelling over the region for work. We've run the trucks in the New Forest before and it was great. Lovely countryside.

Shroom, where do you go in Somerset?

Do you know Stockhill (Priddy?)  That's where I usually run my Dark Impact.  You know any other good quiet areas in Somerset where I can play without being disturbed..?

well i think we should all make a date for the new forest seens there is beginning to be a crowd! thanks max, any info on places to go around here would be great! who else is up for some off roadin, early october?

hey suzy, youve been there before, wheres the best place to meet up? or does anyone else know? ive never been to new forest before so i wouldnt have a clue :o/

Still up for early October [:)]

I got a Blackfoot Extreme runner this weekend too, so will be sorted for some off-road action [:D]

I live in North Wiltshire (Swindon) and I can make it if a get together is held on a Saturday. I normally race Touring cars / M-chassis at the Swindon Club on Sundays.

I can bring a Pumpkin, Blitzer Beetle, Rough Rider, Monster Beetle among others....

OK then you Wiltshire / Southwest peeps - how does SATURDAY 7th OCTOBER sound?

That is just under 2 weeks from today, and is early October, as

suggested.  (I'm actually happy to do Sat 30th Sept, but gives us

less than a week to get everyone ogranized).

Who knows a location in the New Forrest (or any other Wilts/Southwest destination) that we can all get to?

Who will be bringing what?

My running collection on the day will be:

Dark Impact

Blackfoot Extreme

Midnight Pumpkin

Possibly Bear Hawk, depending on what I do with it in the mean time...

Possibly Kyosho Sand Master (nitro) if it's a nitro-friendly area AND if I can get the motor running

and I'll probably bring my TT01 just in case we find some tarmac to play on [;)]

At the moment, I'm going down to the New Forest with camera and map on Friday afternoon with the intention of finding a few places suitable for a run. I myself am at West Wittering this Sunday with Chain Driven so can't do this Saturday and the weekend of Oct 7th I'm away.

Whatever I find, I'll put details up on this thread for either now or later.

Good idea MP, hope you find some good locations.  We can put the date back a week if you can't make the 7th [:)]

Could always do the following weekend (Oct 14th) if that suits more people?

I haven't been down there for a while, but Brockenhurst has quite a few public walks nearby, with a mixture of gravel tracks, heathland, woodland & streams. The village probably still has a fish & chip shop! Plus its holiday-maker central, so although its out of season, there will be a few pubs for a pie & a pint afterwards.

I'd suggest meeting in a central place in the morning. There is a tourist information centre at Lyndhurst (about 10 minutes from Brockenhurst) with public car park. We could meet up there and then decide which terrain & location to explore first!

Go onto Google and search under images of New Forest walks - just look at the amazing countryside!

O.K. so I emptied a tank of fuel and spent yesterday afternoon armed with camera and large scale map. Despite its size, I didn't find many places where you could get immersed in the hobby for hours on end. Most of the open land is either covered in very short fine grass, fern or gorse. The fine grass is excellent for thrashing around at high speed with buggies etc, but this being common land, horse and cattle do deposit their waste wherever they like. I did find some woodland areas but most of the ground beneath is covered in ferns and in a number of cases "reserved for hunting" "no entry to the public".

There are a vast number of gravel tracks but mostly over flat land leeding to various car parks and those that went off in to the wilderness had no parking on them as they are ALL edged with gullies, and again had notices with "no parking"

The soil in the forest is very light, and most of the streams clear having stoney bases. I did find a couple suitable for a short play in, but fully waterproofed electronics is a must.

The only two places I did find, the first was a place just north-east of Ringwood at Rockford, with some stone/gravel inclines a very large sand bank, a large fine grass plateau and a ford just over the road and the second caled Millyford Bridge which had a shallow stream and a wooded area. I can't post more than one photo up, so if anyone wants the whole set send me an email
